On this course, you will learn how you can play a key role in developing, reinforcing and changing the culture of an organisation through effective management of human resources and creation of sound business strategy.  

In-depth study of practice and contemporary theories will equip you with an advanced knowledge of management principles in business and HR. We will take the study of management and organisations from its historical roots to the present day, and, using real-life examples, we will teach you to critically analyse organisational development and the possible consequences on human resource management.  

The international aspect to the course allows you to explore the complexities of management within organisations that operate and trade across multiple countries, and gain an understanding of management in a global context. Learn how to look at company accounts from both the shareholder and the company perspectives, and discover the importance of organisational culture and identity. You will also evaluate the impact that external affairs can have on organisational strategy and behaviour.

The Creative Writing MA is a practice-led programme, giving you the chance to develop your writing in chosen areas, or experiment with new forms and genres through exploratory writing exercises and craft challenges. The programme is designed to develop your writing practice in both research and professional contexts and so you will follow both craft and writing industry-focused modules. You will have the opportunity to graduate with an advanced understanding of the professional landscape and how to use the skills you have acquired to forge a career in a range of contexts.

The taught modules are divided into three areas. Researching as a Writer involves exploring practice research methodologies and research skills, giving you a toolbox for discussion of your practice from a theoretical perspective. Developing Writing covers a range of genre opportunities and exploratory writing tasks, while Writing Ecosystems focuses on networking, performance, manuscript presentation and publishing advice.

The programme culminates in a dissertation in which you will work independently on an extended creative writing project in a form or genre of your choice, with tutor guidance and feedback. You will shape and grow projects to a professional standard, while also learning how to provide a theoretical basis to discuss and conceptualise your practice.

You will also be encouraged to participate in the Leicester Centre for Creative Writing research culture and public engagement events, such as independent book festival States of Independence. Our diverse community of writers work in a wide range of forms and genres including long and short fiction, science fiction, autobiographical, crime, literary and experimental, as well as performance, poetry of all kinds, digital work and scripts for radio, independent film and graphic novel.

The Finance and Investment BSc course at DMU provides a rigorous academic approach to finance with a focus on practical skills and employability. You will study a range of core topics, including Electronic Circuits and Systems and Embedded Systems, and choose from optional modules, such as Mobile Communication and Advanced Power Electronics and Applications, to tailor the course to your interests.

Whether you opt for the three-year BEng (Hons) programme or the four-year integrated master's MEng, our experienced staff will further your understanding of electrical and electronic engineering principles, and will also develop your design, research and project management skills.

In comic art you will develop a practical understanding of idea generation, visual storytelling and visual communication.

These two themes mean you will access a wide range of creative possibilities and opportunities. They are underpinned by contextual studies to inform and enhance your practice through an exploration of the historical, cultural and social contexts of the wider world of print and web-based comic arts, graphic novels and visual communication.

The Sport Management MSc programme explores the multi-faceted area of sport management, combining specialist sport modules with practical experience in the industry. Energy Engineering MSc will give you an in-depth understanding of contemporary issues in energy and sustainability, and will develop your knowledge of experimental and computer modelling techniques for the design of energy systems, such as electricity grids, thermal energy networks and transportation systems.

You can choose from a range of modules to focus on either sustainable development in practice, sustainability in the built environment, or techniques of energy analysis. The course is informed by research from the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development (IESD) so that you develop industry-relevant and up-to-date knowledge and expertise.
