In an increasingly media-focused world, this course will develop your existing passion for film and TV into a prospective career, helping you acquire a skillset required for many technical and creative roles.

You will gain a strong theoretical understanding of film history and theory, and explore areas such as Disney, Warner Bros and the business of the Film Studio, Cinemas of the World and Fan and Material Cultures. You will also develop practical skills in diverse areas including film making, film reviewing, screen archives and film festival planning.  

You will be able to choose modules that combine practice and study, giving you a strong theoretical understanding, as well as transferable skills such as communication and critical analysis. Our graduates go on to work in a variety of fields, including film and TV, but also finance, public relations and tourism.

Studying Politics and International Relations at DMU offers students a dynamic experience, ranging from understanding theoretical ideas that underpin the way the world works to experiences beyond the classroom and engaging with real-world projects. After a common core of modules that challenge you to think about politics from the local to the global, you will have the opportunity to follow one of two pathways specialising in politics or International Relations.

On the Politics pathway, you can take modules that deal with British Politics beyond Westminster, the politics of the Americas, race, identity and class in the City and the politics of sustainable futures. On the International Relations pathway, you will focus on global inequalities and development, security and peace issues and international crisis management. All students have the chance to undertake a final project on a subject of their own choice.

On this course you will explore a diverse range of modules such as photography and video, television studies, and music industry management. For your language studies you can choose from French, the official language in 32 countries, or Mandarin, the world’s most natively spoken language. You can start your study of languages at DMU at beginner (French or Mandarin), intermediate, or advanced level.

Whether your creative specialism lies in media, products, interiors, exhibitions, fashion or branding and marketing, on this course you will explore and embrace digital and design related technologies in your field.

You can specialise in technologies such as user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, mobile app design, e-learning, virtual and augmented reality, 2D and 3D animation, 3D digital printing, digital display and projection design, visual and special effects for TV and film, interactive kiosk and installation design, wearable devices and smart clothing. The course is designed for students with a good working knowledge of multimedia software tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator Flash, Dreamweaver and After Effects, and 3D software such as Autodesk MAYA or 3DMax, providing an opportunity to develop these technical skills to an advanced level.

You will examine the practical skills and the academic theories surrounding digital design methods. We will take you all the way from concept development and prototyping to production techniques and testing. In-depth insight into each stage of the creative production process will be supported by training in project management. This broad base of specialised skills will equip you for wide-ranging creative careers as digital designers, web and app developers, and multimedia production directors, while the understanding you will build of business planning and web presence management will teach you the key skills needed to launch a freelance career.

English language is a stimulating, thought-provoking course designed to make you analyse and reflect on how language in general, and English in particular, functions in the world today. Quantity Surveying and Construction focuses on controlling and managing the costs of construction projects; you could be involved with any stage of a project, from feasibility, design and construction, through to extension, refurbishment, maintenance and even demolition.

Our course will help you gain an understanding of the technical aspects of construction over the whole life of a building or facility. You will learn to understand contracts, budgets, quantities, measurements and sustainability to achieve the best quality and value within the project’s specifications. You are likely to be involved in a range of services, from cost consultancy to contract management.

Intellectually and artistically demanding, this course offers daily dance classes in contemporary techniques, ballet for contemporary dancers, fusion (street, urban, hip-hop), improvisation and African principles.

Alongside developing an outstanding dance technique, you will acquire critical thinking, technical and artistic skills to prepare you for a range of dance-related careers. In your final semester, you will be supported by our academics and technicians with your individual project, a substantial piece of work focused on your specific research interests.

A rapidly expanding field worldwide, Psychological Well-being evaluates the factors that characterise and influence mental health and wellbeing, nurturing your understanding of the cultural, social and economic contexts in which they develop.

Many of our experienced academic team have expertise in the specific domains of wellbeing, which are embedded within the course, including developmental psychology, occupational psychology, health psychology, clinical psychology, counselling psychology and cognitive/biological psychology.
