This stimulating course challenges motivated graduates from fashion and textiles disciplines to explore their chosen specialism and take their development to the next level of creative innovation. Choose from one of the following three areas to specialise in:

  • Fashion Design focuses on womenswear, menswear and fashion knitwear.
  • Footwear Design and Accessories covers women’s, men’s and children’s footwear and accessories for sport, leisure or fashion.
  • Textile Design examines printed, constructed and mixed media in relation to fashion, interiors and lifestyle.

The Criminology with Psychology degree examines the causes, legal framework and responses to crime, combined with the study of psychology.

Students will cover a range of material to develop a holistic appreciation of criminal justice matters. For example, whilst students will explore a range of theoretical perspectives on causes of crime and philosophical justifications of punishment, they will also develop a solid understanding of how the criminal justice system works in practice. We encourage our students to develop as critical thinkers engaging with the world around them and preparing them for life after university.

By combining your study of Education Studies with a language, you can develop your employability with a second language that helps distinguish you from other graduates. The skills acquired when learning a language are valued by employers and are transferable into many sectors.

You can start your study of languages at DMU in either French, Mandarin or Spanish at beginner, GCSE (intermediate) or advanced level and learn at a grade and pace that suits you and your needs.

Learning a new language not only helps to provide you with linguistic skills but can also enhance your skills in your native language and develop your presentation, written and critical skills.

Our Product Design course helps you to take your imaginative ideas and make them real. To do that you need both the creativity and the technical skills to bring your ideas to life.

On this course you’ll study the fundamentals of maths and science, electrical, electronic and mechanical principles, and simulation and fluid dynamics, as well as the functional and market-led requirements of product design.

You’ll look at specific areas including technology integration, computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D design, sustainability and design for manufacture, and be taught by academics with current industry connections.

The modules on this course have been carefully designed to provide a fully integrated program of study. Applied Computing BSc (Hons) is a practical, vocationally oriented course providing students with knowledge and skills for the modern, computer-driven workplace. The course is a contemporary mix of traditional computing subjects with professional and work-related skills.

The core modules include Introduction to Computing, Computer Ethics, Data Analytics, Information and Database Design, Programming in Python, Project Management, Human-Computer Interaction, Programming with APIs and Frameworks, Mobile Application Design and Development, and Artificial Intelligence. Computational Intelligence (CI) encompasses the techniques and methods used to tackle problems that traditional approaches to computing struggle to solve. The four areas of fuzzy logic, neural networks, CI optimisation and knowledge-based systems encompass much of what is considered to be computational (or artificial) intelligence. There are also opportunities to apply what you learn in areas such as robot control and games development, depending on your interests.

You can choose from a number of specialist modules including natural language processing, artificial neural networks and data mining techniques, while developing your skills in our dedicated robotics laboratory, equipped with a variety of mobile robots. The applied computational intelligence module considers knowledge-based systems, as well as the historical, philosophical and future implications of AI, and focuses on current research and applications in the area.
