Master of Science in Marketing and Technology

Master of Science in Marketing and Technology

at Goldsmiths, University of London United Kingdom

Overview

The MSc Marketing & Technology aims to transform students into uniquely-trained individuals possessing the knowledge and skills required to be successful marketers in dynamic and technology-driven industries.

Companies such as Netflix, Airbnb, and Tesla have one thing in common: they break with the norms of existing markets and employ unconventional, technology-driven marketing approaches. Traditional marketing education all too often neglects the marketing abilities that these companies possess.

The MSc Marketing & Technology departs from the rather passive marketing logic that assumes markets and marketing channels are fixed features of reality. Instead, it shows how managers can proactively shape and create new markets and marketing landscapes.

The goal of this programme is to transform students into uniquely-trained individuals who understand how to leverage emerging technologies, such as 3D printing, Virtual Reality, and the Internet of Things, to design unique customer experiences, disrupt existing markets, and create entirely new ones.

The programme will direct students’ attention to significant and emerging technological trends, and show how they can address important social and environmental problems.

It seeks to enable students to discover new market opportunities that will have a positive impact on the economy, society, and the environment. Students will be equipped with the skills required to effectively navigate today’s technology-dominated marketing environments, and they will learn how to be successful marketers in the digital marketing era.

You'll learn that we cannot make sense of the ways in which politics affects every aspect of our lives without first addressing the ways in which the concept of ‘politics’ is constructed in the first place.

We will develop your critical and analytical skills, providing you with a thorough grounding in the major aspects of modern political studies, including political theory, international relations, political economy, British and European comparative politics and the politics of non-Western countries.

Through a study of diverse topics, such as feminism, foreign policy, and human rights, you'll sharpen your ability to evaluate complex, challenging claims. You’ll see that politics encompasses the most difficult challenges humanity faces, and you’ll learn how to engage with these challenges in a sophisticated, persuasive way.

A degree in politics is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable subjects you can study at university. And the skills you’ll gain will stay with you forever.

Why study BA Politics at Goldsmiths?

  • This programme extends beyond the conventional - we'll look at how and why politics is practised in such different ways around the planet
  • Our research interests are as diverse as the discipline of politics; you’ll have the option of studying from the full range of subjects that we offer (subject to prerequisites)
  • You’ll learn about the politics of the Houses of Parliament and the United States Senate, but you’ll also learn about the political decisions which take place in the classroom, the company directors’ meeting, the art gallery and the internet forum. Through these (and more) diverse studies, we’ll help you to question your own assumptions and beliefs in order to give you the ability to question the assumptions and beliefs of others
  • In your third year you’ll be able to put these skills into practice in our Work Placement programme. We have links with the Home Office, Department for Transport, local government and the European Commission
  • We have a lively events programme that attracts renowned speakers, so you'll have the opportunity to hear (and challenge) the latest political arguments, theories and ideas

This programme is an exciting opportunity to focus on global issues within the framework of a History degree, crossing continents and chronologies.

History at Goldsmiths is global. It explores the multidirectional travel of people, practices, resources and ideas across boundaries (local, regional, national, continental, oceanic) and the changes occurring along the way. It explores questions of power, domination, and asymmetry, as well as responses to global processes from the people worst affected by them.

This programme will allow you to explore the following themes:

  • World history
  • Migration
  • Empire, decolonisation and race
  • Subaltern history
  • The global south
  • Postcolonialism
  • History in transnational perspective

Studying Global History at Goldsmiths involves applying knowledge and understanding of these themes to contemporary issues such as the UK’s changing place in the world, colonial/postcolonial relationships, and complex histories of race and racism around the world. You will develop your skills in multidisciplinary approaches and engage with a range of historical methods/ideas.

You will learn about histories of culture, ideas, politics, and power – beyond boundaries and borders. You will be taught by a multi-national community of scholars whose expertise means that history can be understood globally, and you will develop your understanding of how countries operate within global frameworks, both in the past and today, and how empires of the past continue to affect present-day societies and politics.
