Pharmaceutical science can benefit and transform patients' lives. Spanning the worlds of chemistry and biology, it discovers, develops and analyses medicines. If you are considering a career in the pharmaceutical industry, this course will give you the knowledge and practical skills for success.

This course explores drug discovery, pharmacology, toxicology and examines the most effective ways that medicines are manufactured, packaged, stored and administered. You'll take part in innovative research, including new methods of drug delivery and drug synthesis.

At the end of Year 1, you may apply to transfer to the MPharm course (dependent on your academic performance and an interview). Transfer is to Year 1 of the MPharm course.

This course, accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science, provides an in-depth understanding of disease processes and diagnostic techniques. It links academic knowledge to the practical applications of biomedical science, particularly in relation to modern diagnostic methods. You can choose to study one of two pathways – haematology or medical microbiology. Taught by researchers and expert practitioners, the course content is kept up to date through extensive links with leading healthcare and research laboratories such as GlaxoSmithKline, the Institute of Cancer Research and local hospitals. This course is ideal if you're interested in film and creative industry careers beyond production, such as scriptwriting, journalism and reviewing, festival programming, museum and exhibit curation, and promotion and marketing. The course examines creative writing and film within historical, cultural and geographical contexts, rather than in isolation. You'll explore how writing and film are shaped by their surroundings. Through analysis of published writing, you'll consider language and style. In Year 3, the course culminates in a major research project, covering a topic of your choice. You'll also complete a creative writing dissertation.

This course focuses on the challenges and opportunities facing the concrete industry in meeting the demands of sustainability. You will examine concrete technology, sustainable construction, earthquake engineering, steel and concrete building design, fire assessment, geo-environmental engineering and construction management. You will take part in practical work, group work, case studies and presentations. Experts at leading civil engineering and construction companies contribute to the course. For your dissertation, you may choose an industry-relevant project to research.

In an editorial team, you will produce two magazines and a magazine website and undertake a placement on a published title.

You will also have the opportunity to study magazine design, production, fashion and sport or data journalism. Finally, you will carry out a 12–15,000 word dissertation or a related practical project.
