This course offers the knowledge and skills for designing, developing and operating secure IP-based networks. Do you aspire to work on magazines? This course will give you the best possible start on the road to success. It addresses subjects such as writing, subediting, production and design techniques, research skills and how to generate lively, interactive content for the web.

In an editorial team, you will produce two magazines and a magazine website and undertake a placement on a published title.

You will also have the opportunity to study magazine design, production, fashion and sport or data journalism. Finally, you will carry out a 12–15,000 word dissertation or a related practical project.

This course explores the way societies understand crime and deviance and how they seek to secure social order, social justice and social control. Across the course, you'll consider how cultural and social values, life experiences and social inequalities are shaped by the social and global environments. You'll consider how practices and attitudes of policing respond to social events and shifts in cultural attitudes and consider the ways the media can influence individuals' perceptions of crime and its causes.

You'll also study the criminal justice system in England and Wales, explore issues of discrimination in the criminal justice system and how social structures and institutions can disadvantage and marginalise groups in society. And you'll draw global comparisons, considering the ways in which protests, and political action, criminal activity, and policing, transcend national borders.

The course also offers opportunities for you to gain valuable work experience with victim support agencies, advocacy groups, justice campaigns, international charities and NGOs via a work placement module.

This course, accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science, provides an in-depth understanding of disease processes and diagnostic techniques. It links academic knowledge to the practical applications of biomedical science, particularly in relation to modern diagnostic methods. You can choose to study one of two pathways – haematology or medical microbiology. Taught by researchers and expert practitioners, the course content is kept up to date through extensive links with leading healthcare and research laboratories such as GlaxoSmithKline, the Institute of Cancer Research and local hospitals. In addition, key features of the course include the following.

How can we better understand today's social inequalities, and what can we do to solve them? What impact has globalisation had on our every day lives? How does our culture and society shape our identity and how we evaluate others? These are the types of questions we examine in our sociology degree.

You'll look at many areas of social life, such as gender, race and class, family, migration, creative industries and fashion, to understand how power operates, how individual behaviour, norms and values are shaped by the social world, and how conflict exists and is resolved.

Throughout the course, you'll be asked to reflect on your own life experiences and to consider contemporary real-world issues and events. You'll make connections with ideas and arguments from other social sciences, such as psychology, criminology, and politics. This course offers key skills in pharmaceutical analysis, including measurement, scientific practice, evaluation and interpretation of data. You will study recent trends in analytical science and techniques and be introduced to pharmaceutical technologies, such as formulations and clinical pharmacokinetics. Through your research project, you will develop valuable research skills. Past projects have examined areas such as determining caffeine and its metabolites in human serum samples using GC-MS, and synthesis and use of compounds as probes for biochemical reactions.

This course explores current trends in chemical, biological and biotechnological therapeutics and examines the latest technologies in the pharmaceutical industry. You will gain an understanding of processes used in clinical trials and in the development, manufacture and regulation of medicines. Through an independent research project, you will study an area of interest in depth. Examples of projects include: medicinal chemistry (eg. synthesis of anti-cancer compounds and natural products), pharmaceutical technology (eg. optimisation of tablet manufacture and formulation), and clinical pharmacy (eg. pharmacovigilance, clinical trial and medicines regulations).

Behavioural decision science applies psychological insights into human behaviour to explain how, when, and why people make decisions.

This course, based in the Psychology Department, explores theory and research in behavioural decision science, and examines the application of psychology, behavioural science, and behavioural economics to policy, intervention, and behaviour change in areas such as health, finance, sustainability, and consumer behaviour.

You will gain psychological research methods skills, and critically examine theory and research in four areas of behavioural decision science: Cognitive Psychology, Judgement and Decision Making, Social Psychology, and Decision Neuroscience.

A placement module will build on your workplace or research skills and develop new skills that employers seek. The Behavioural Decision Science MSc prepares you for a variety of private and public sector jobs that require a core understanding of human behaviour and decision-making.
