The aim of the User Experience Design MSc course is to equip you with the behavioural theory, design practice and technology know-how that is necessary for a career as interaction designer, usability engineer, user researcher, or head of user experience. It focuses upon the analysis, design, prototyping and evaluation of multimedia, multi-modal, and multi-platform user interfaces that are easy to use and support a great user experience.

Each taught module guides students through a UX project – to optimise an interaction, to innovate a digital lifestyle, to create a persuasive product, and to collaborate on the development of virtual reality. Each project provides opportunities to analyse, design, prototype and evaluate cutting-edge technologies, follow industry trends and apply contemporary theories. A final "capstone" project completes the student's portfolio.

This course was developed in consultation with our industry panel, which includes Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, DreamWorks and Samsung Design Europe. Kingston University is an active member of TIGA, the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) and supports the User Experience Professionals' Association (UXPA UK).

This course offers a cross-disciplinary insight into the changing landscape of the media industries from mass communication to the new digital age.

The course nurtures and builds on your individual experience as a media user or amateur content creator, but it also enhances your awareness and understanding of how media are shaping the world we live in today, and how humanity will evolve within Artificial Intelligence and environmental concerns.

The course offers a diverse curriculum covering media histories, media now, and future media.

Media studies have been described as "the defining subject of our age". So when you choose this Media and Communications MA, you will be developing your professional portfolio of media and communication projects. You'll explore different aspects of the media industries and professions such as strategic communication, media production, PR, advocacy, marketing and advertising, digital art, creative writing and so many other areas which speak to your individual interests and potential future career paths.

Cyber security, the umbrella term for computer, network and information security is of increasing importance – new legislation, technologies, vulnerabilities and threats necessitate frequent system updates.

This course offers a critical awareness of current developments and future trends in cryptography, network security and mobile/wireless security. You will explore techniques and technologies to combat threats such as malware, social engineering, data leakage or zero-day attacks, based on understanding secure authentication mechanisms, access control, intrusion detection, information security policies and user education. A project/dissertation will enable you to study an area of interest in depth. It can be an excellent selling point.

Applying psychology to business can offer insight into how individuals and groups behave. This course combines psychological theory with business understanding. You'll learn how decision making, marketing, finance, human resources, and business strategy are all influenced by cognitive and social processes.

Using specialised equipment and software, you'll measure brain activity, analyse how decisions are made and study how disruption can affect behaviour.

This course builds on the established strengths of the Mathematics and Computer Science programmes and develops a multidisciplinary approach to the computational analysis of data. Contemporary society faces new challenges in the analysis of data, predictive analytics in support of decision making processes that are both mathematical and computational. You'll study contemporary topics in nutrition such as genetic modification, fortification and supplementation and nutraceuticals. You'll also look at nutrition's links to health and disease, in both developed and developing countries.

Through an independent project, you'll be able to research a subject of interest (such as public health and clinical nutrition, food science and the role of specific compounds in food).

• Environmental Management MSc – this core pathway explores the rationale behind the exploitation of natural environments. It provides you with detailed knowledge and understanding of the important relationships between sustainable environmental management and natural ecosystems and the value of adopting an integrated approach to studying both.
• Environmental Management (Energy) MSc – this pathway is timely, nationally and internationally relevant, given the world's energy needs, as well as the surrounding political debates regarding fossil fuels and increasingly, renewables, which form such an essential component of the world's existence.

You'll explore the sources of medicine, how medicines work, how they can be formulated (such as via tablet, cream or inhaler), administered, analysed and tested.

The course shares its first two years with the Pharmaceutical Science BSc (Hons) programme and provides a wide understanding of all aspects of the pharmaceutical industry. In Year 3 you'll deepen your knowledge of natural product chemistry. You'll develop skills for testing and evaluating the safety and effectiveness of pharmaceutical products. In Year 4 you'll develop skills in experiment design, critical analysis, problem-solving and laboratory work.

Chemical analysis plays a role in virtually all aspects of everyday life throughout the world. With analytical techniques and instrumentation becoming evermore sophisticated, there is an increasing demand for qualified analytical chemists. This industrially relevant course will provide you with a strong background in the theory of analytical techniques and give you the ability to apply these techniques to complex analytical problems.

You will study good measurement and scientific practice and the evaluation and interpretation of data. You will also develop skills to prepare you for your career, including problem solving, organisation, data collation, review and synopsis, time management and teamwork. Your independent project can be an excellent selling point when looking for a job promotion; you may be offered a placement within industry to carry it out.
