Fast-track to a rewarding career as a speech and language therapist with this pre-registration course and help those with communication or eating and drinking difficulties to enjoy a better quality of life.

Suitable if you have a relevant degree such as psychology, linguistics or English Language, this course will empower you to diagnose speech and language problems in babies, children and adults, and design and deliver life-changing treatment plans for those with cleft palate, stammering, hearing impairments, voice disorders and other conditions.

You will learn through a combination of seminars, lectures and practice-based learning, amassing more than 500 hours of professional experience on placements in various clinical or community settings.

Your masters programme will offer a more critical application of your learning than at undergraduate level, and the chance to engage in an extended project that you could showcase as part of your professional portfolio.

Upon graduation, you will be eligible to apply for HCPC registration as a speech and language therapist. You will have the expertise to work in a multidisciplinary team and provide the best possible care for your clients.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Gain the skills to become a professional occupational therapist, able to deliver and evaluate occupational therapy in a range of settings
• Understand the relationship between occupation and health, models of occupation, occupational science and occupational justice
• Learn how to carry out occupational therapy assessments and interventions
• Work with people from across the lifespan and with a range of physical, mental and social difficulties such as dementia, stroke, homelessness or unemployment

As part of your course you’ll:

• Develop concepts and narratives through drawing, sequential illustration and animation, digital practices, three-dimensional forms, performance and creative writing
• Underpin these practices with an emphasis on drawing and image-making
• Challenge the conventions of the discipline of illustration
• Define and locate your own practice within the professional context of illustration
• Investigate established unfamiliar and emerging processes, to inform your own individual methodologies

You’ll learn from experienced lecturers who practice and research in diverse industry fields with the knowledge and skills to support multidisciplinary explorations.

You’ll develop your ability to communicate and contribute to a team project by working with students studying different disciplines. This course is accredited by JAMES (Joint Audio Media Education Support) which encourages the delivery of workshops and lectures from industry professionals. A placement option and your final year project will provide you with opportunities to work with industry partners.
