You’ll be engaged in practical events in the city in theatres, galleries and more unusual sites. Our performing arts students and staff have also performed their work together at Latitude, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Light Night here in Leeds.

Fast-track to a rewarding career as a speech and language therapist with this pre-registration course and help those with communication or eating and drinking difficulties to enjoy a better quality of life.

Suitable if you have a relevant degree such as psychology, linguistics or English Language, this course will empower you to diagnose speech and language problems in babies, children and adults, and design and deliver life-changing treatment plans for those with cleft palate, stammering, hearing impairments, voice disorders and other conditions.

You will learn through a combination of seminars, lectures and practice-based learning, amassing more than 500 hours of professional experience on placements in various clinical or community settings.

Your masters programme will offer a more critical application of your learning than at undergraduate level, and the chance to engage in an extended project that you could showcase as part of your professional portfolio.

Upon graduation, you will be eligible to apply for HCPC registration as a speech and language therapist. You will have the expertise to work in a multidisciplinary team and provide the best possible care for your clients.

• Explore social psychological approaches that extend Western scientific thought
• Reconsider ideas of consciousness, mind, self and social living from a range of alternative cultural frameworks including psychoanalysis, discursive psychology and non-Western belief systems such as Buddhism and Daoism
• Gain insights into how the environment, spirituality, language and relationships shape who we are and what we become
• Develop a critical philosophy of what it means to be human

You can get involved in plenty of volunteering opportunities in several areas including mental health and disability support. We also have strong ties with local charitable and community organisations, helping you to understand issues such as domestic abuse as well as child and adolescent psychotherapy.

You’ll gain unique perspectives by looking into the important works of Sigmund Freud and Karl Marx and discuss theories gleaned from film and literature works. You’ll challenge contemporary thought on psychology, spiritualism, religion and culture, bridging the gap between the self and society.

Learn to produce content for all platforms including TV, radio and the web.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Develop your understanding of new technological developments and approaches in the creation of broadcast video and audio content
• Become an expert producer with the confidence to work across all platforms
• Develop TV and radio ideas and formats
• Take on production roles and work in teams on live broadcasts
• Produce podcasts, and shoot and edit video
• Create and work with motion graphics materials
• Exhibit your final projects to the general public and industry professionals at our Creative Technology Showcase 

You’ll learn to anticipate and respond to current local and global changes in broadcasting needs. As you develop production content in a broadcasting and radio studio, you’ll also have access to facilities for live edits of your material. We’ll give you the skills to use graphics and visual construction to communicate material for branding and audiences.

Opportunities will arise to work in our in-house media training facility on collaborative projects.

Examine our relationship with the natural environment and learn to understand and consider responses to the challenges of climate change, globalisation, urbanisation, development and regeneration.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Explore a range of contemporary issues within geography and environmental science such as remote sensing, natural hazard management, energy and environmental governance, climate adaptation, GIS and specialist technical field work
• Develop your understanding of the relationships between human activity and environmental change and combine theories about the physical nature, characteristics and environment of the world with human interactions
