As part of this course, you’ll:

• Explore a wide range of theories within psychology, mental health, counselling, child development and psychotherapy
• Combine theoretical knowledge with opportunities to work in mental health environments and develop your ability to build effective therapeutic relationships
• Study a variety of therapeutic approaches  
• Explore psychotherapeutic models including cognitive and behavioural development and look at theories on how mental health issues develop across the lifespan
• Learn how to develop your interpersonal skills in order to build counselling relationships between you and your clients 

This course is suitable for those working in mental health services wanting to further their knowledge and career, or for those wishing to enter the health and care professions. You’ll study a variety of therapeutic approaches and will be able to tailor the course to your career ambitions. On completion, you’ll be able to build positive therapeutic relationships that can foster positive change for your clients, for example with people experiencing anxiety, depression and addiction.

You’ll practise your counselling and interpersonal skills using our interview and feedback rooms. Engaging with work-based learning opportunities will allow you to reflect upon how you use your practical skills in the real world. These activities will help you become a confident, globally minded and emotionally mature individual, enhancing your career prospects.

Informed by research and led by practice, this course will see you explore contemporary three-dimensional design practice and gain a human insight into diverse design issues.

As part of your course, you'll:

• Engage in a reflective and iterative process of design development and learning through doing
• Communicate design ideas through compelling outcomes
• Develop transferable skills to work effectively as a designer in real-world settings

Innovative research methods will allow you to gain insights into user needs, economic, environmental and ethical considerations, and industry capabilities to inform your design outcomes. The importance of iterative modelling processes (making, testing and improving) will enable you to question, challenge, refine and propose appropriate design solutions that will make a positive contribution to the world around us.

This course recognises the breadth of professional and research-led opportunities within the subject area of 3D Design and supports a culture of discursive enquiry and debate. It aims to foster and nurture independent creative thinkers and will equip you with the necessary attributes to respond to the contemporary challenges undertaken by designers and researchers in the field.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Gain the skills to become a professional occupational therapist, able to deliver and evaluate occupational therapy in a range of settings
• Understand the relationship between occupation and health, models of occupation, occupational science and occupational justice
• Learn how to carry out occupational therapy assessments and interventions
• Work with people from across the lifespan and with a range of physical, mental and social difficulties such as dementia, stroke, homelessness or unemployment

Take a 'whole child' approach to the study of children and the issues that affect them and their families.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Specialise your study through one of two distinct routes - Early Years and Children & Young People
• Choose the Early Years route if you want to focus on applying a critical lens to young children's education and care within a variety of settings
• Choose the Children & Young People route if you’re interested in focusing on critically examining concepts, contexts and practice related to childhood
• Recognise and champion every child. Using the latest research you’ll explore the theoretical and conceptual terrain of childhood to inform and develop your own practice
• Study modules designed to highlight the importance of the child's voice and children's participation

Develop key skills in economics, accounting and management with a strong vocational focus.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Explore the principles of economics and how they apply to business
• Gain both a theoretical and practical understanding of the economic decisions faced by business managers
• Develop the ability to analyse the economic and social environments in which those decisions are taken

Add a social psychological insight to questions traditionally associated with sociology.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Discover how we develop as individuals and learn how institutions and social structures influence how we act
• Explore a wide range of sociological themes, touching on the theories of classical and contemporary sociologists
• Study psychological topics, including how different environments shape human behaviour, the inter-relationship between the individual and broader social and cultural phenomena
• Understand how psychology can be used for the benefit of society
• Shape your course to the career you want by selecting from a range of option modules in the final year

As part of your studies you’ll undertake a wide variety of assessments. In your second year you could participate in a day-long conference where you’ll have the opportunity to present your own research findings. You could also publish your essay in our university's highly regarded sociology journal.

This course will prepare you to take the next step in your career if:

• Your first degree is in biomedical sciences or a related subject, or
• You don’t have a degree in this field, but you have significant experience of working in a biomedical sciences laboratory setting

As part of this course you’ll:

• Develop expertise to inform and underpin your research activities, so you’ll be well placed to undertake specialist laboratory-based roles or PhD study
• Study wide-ranging topics, from immunology and haematology to medical genetics and physiology
• Be supported in your development through taught sessions and the guidance of your research supervisor
• Learn through a range of activities, including tutor-led lab sessions, independent research and group assignments
