Cardiac physiologists in hospitals deal with patients first-hand, meaning they need not only highly specialised knowledge and excellent analytical abilities but good people skills.

Our biomedical and biological science courses have a burgeoning international reputation, due to our world-class research in areas including biomarkers, public health and biomodelling. Our flexible product design degree gives you the skills, project experience and professional networks to succeed in the field of product design engineering. With the flexibility to study a three-year BEng, or a four-year MEng, our product design engineering course gives you the skills, practical experience and confidence to develop your creative vision into real working products.

• From your second year, you’ll have the option to switch to the creative (BA) route or to remain on the more technological (BEng/MEng) path for the remainder of your studies. If you’re applying for our four-year MEng course, you’ll begin work on your master's qualification as soon as you successfully finish your undergraduate study.

BA Business Management (Marketing)

This course is ideal for those who are interested in how businesses are operated and managed, but who also want to develop their own marketing expertise.

Through workshops, role-plays, problem solving exercises and analysing case studies, you'll learn to communicate your ideas and help to sell your products and services to customers. You’ll also study the key business functions that organisations require for success.

BA International Tourism Management (Spanish)

Our innovative international tourism course combines theory with practice – with a focus on the latest global trends and developments in international tourism – and a career-enhancing opportunity to learn the fourth widest spoken language in the world.

We have a dedicated International Tourism Industry and Employability module which is delivered by a colleague with extensive managerial experience in the hotel sector. This emphasises the importance we place on employability right from the beginning of the first year.

You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto one of our three-year degree courses in these subject areas. The number of students who progress to degree study are very high - in fact some of these students have gone on to become some of our most successful graduates.

BA Criminology (Criminal Justice)

Our criminal justice degree approaches the subject from a theoretical, research-informed, and practice-based perspective. This means that during your time studying you’ll gain an understanding of the criminal justice system, including an introduction to law and legal justice and the different career paths you might want to pursue after graduation. If you want to learn how businesses work and how to manage people, then this is the degree for you. You’ll learn about the theory and practice of how businesses operate and what their environments are like. You’ll also study a variety of management styles, alongside the law and practices related to managing people.

You’ll be supported by a team of tutors who have industry experience. You will be exposed to key HR practices such as hiring practices, HR law, the ethics of employment and other abilities you'll need during your career.

• Our Sociology with Criminology course is taught within the interdisciplinary department in the School of Law, where you’ll benefit from some of the UK’s most influential and innovative academics. All of our scholars are actively engaged in current research, including human rights abuses, criminal behaviour, and more.
• You’ll have the option to choose the modules you want in your second and third years, meaning you can tailor the programme to your unique set of interests and career prospects. You can also choose to extend your course by a year and take a work placement or integrate it through volunteering and placement modules. In your final year, you can also choose between a dissertation and project, making your degree as suited to your individual needs and interests as possible.

Not all nutrition courses take a holistic approach to the subject. Our BSc Nutrition programme is interdisciplinary in its approach, exploring the link between diet, health, disease and performance. As nutritionists play a key role in creating and translating research into nutritional advice and policies, you’ll learn all about how the human body uses nutrients and the effects this has on health.

• Our course offers you the unique opportunity to undertake a 12-month placement in your third year before returning for a final year of study subject to availability in light of the Covid 19 pandemic. Completing the placement will mean you graduate with a BSc Nutrition (Professional Practice) degree, which highlights the additional practical skills you’ve gained to prospective employers. You’ll get plenty of support from our Employability Advisors, who’ll ensure you secure a placement that closely matches your interests.
• Members of the Nutrition Society have the option of taking advantage of its internship programme. Other potential placement opportunities include Unilever, GSK, sports clubs, NHS Primary Care Trusts, and Nestle.
• During your studies, you’ll use innovative technology to enhance your learning. You’ll be taught with a mixture of seminars, group and individual tutorials, and through laboratory classes to help you gain theoretical and practical knowledge of nutrition.
