If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto one of our three-year degree courses in these subject areas. BA Sociology

Our sociology BA teaches you essential hands-on skills while you develop the research ability and theoretical knowledge that allows you to understand the effects of social issues on society. Our sociology courses are taught within an interdisciplinary department of our School of Law, bringing you in contact with some of the leading scholars in the industry.

You will enrol on a four-year course which includes the one-year foundation year. The number of students who progress to degree study is very high. The Foundation Year in Performing Arts is taught in our excellent studios and facilities at our Hendon campus by the same lecturing staff who teach on our degree courses. You are taught in small group seminars, workshops and lectures.

BA Music Business and Arts Management

Our music business and arts management course is designed to give you the tools to succeed in the field of music business and arts management. It covers everything from entrepreneurship and project management to live music, copyright law and much more.

This BA has been designed to get you into the diverse film industry, bringing together both theoretical and practical learning.

You’ll be following in the footsteps of a long list of decorated alumni, the likes of which have gone on to work on the latest Star Wars productions, for Disney, the BBC, set up their own companies and continued their studies at the National Film and Television School.

Across the three years, you’ll learn about the complete film-making process, covering a range of production roles, conception and development, post-production, script writing, cinematography, and direction, taught by professionals working in the film industry.

A film degree can open a lot of doors and we’re here to help you find the right career path. Graduates of this course become writers, editors, sound technicians, and camera assistants.

The sports coach has a diverse role, working with elite athletes, guiding teams of young people, or working with community groups to assist the health of the local population.

Someone interested in this role will enjoy working with people of all ages, shapes and sizes to develop their physical and mental health, assisting them in reaching their physical peak – physical education and coaching is what you dream of.

Develop sporting and coaching skills

• Our philosophy means the scientific approach lies at the heart of this sports course. You’ll learn how to support athletes to reach their peak and perform at the right time while reducing the risk of injury.
• We believe in building a portfolio of practical skills, which means a large part of your studies will be spent practising in Barnet Copthall Stadium, home of Saracens Rugby Club. (Access will be dependent on social distancing requirements due to Covid-19.) By the end of the course you’ll take part in more than 150 hours of clinical practice, working with a range of athletes across a number of sports.
• Upon completion of the course, you’ll be armed with a range of knowledge including coaching, physical education, sports psychology and more. You’ll learn how to assess fitness, well-being and nutrition, as well as the basic effects of pharmacological agents on performance and health.

Our fine art course welcomes the subject as an open discipline. That’s why your time studying with us will be a varied combination of studio practices, theory, critical involvement with culture, society, and artistic practices. We ensure that in addition to developing your critical and creative skills, you graduate with a host of transferable skills that are highly sought after by employers.

After the first year, you’ll be able to attend specialist seminars leading to one of our distinct pathways: BA Fine Art, BA Fine Art Social Practice, BA Fine Art Multimedia Practice, BA Fine Art Critical Practice. This will give you the opportunity to specialise in a subject area that interests you most.

Throughout your time with us you’ll be taught by practising artists who’re involved in research and exhibit and sell their work globally, working across a diverse range of media like painting, film, photography, and more. Our north London campus location also puts you in the ideal spot to explore all the cultural happenings the city has to offer including the iconic Tate Modern and The National Gallery.

You’ll also get to develop your individual practice, gaining hands-on experience of skills and processes inherent in the producing, exhibiting and critical contextualisation of your work.

Alongside developing your vision and skills as an artist, you will also develop a wide range of transferable skills including initiative, self-motivation, resourcefulness, excellent written and verbal communications skills, ability to work both alone and in groups, and the ability to be reflective and constructively self-critical about projects you have initiated.

Our games design course is designed to give you a skill set that’s resilient to the rapid changes in an expanding and evolving industry. You’ll gain hands-on experience that will help you build your portfolio and develop your experience in a wide range of design skills that will open up career opportunities in a broad range of creative industries.

The games industry is  complex and diverse industry that spans a variety of old and new technologies fm print to computer software to 3D printed game pieces. Our BA/BSc in games design gives you the transferable skills and knowledge you need to become a successful games designer in this industry. Led by academic staff experienced in AAA, indie, tabletop and mobile gaming, you'll develop your technology and story development skills, as well as enhancing your game-play design expertise.

Depending on your interests, you will work on the technical side of games design and testing in the BSc, while the BA is focused on experience design and using scripting and games engines to produce satisfying gameplay experiences.

Build your hands-on games design skills

• We’ve got state-of-the-art facilities that give you access to over 30 workstations that are equipped with the latest software. Learning the essential skills you need to start your game design career, you’ll get to grips with the latest software, including Unity, Processing, OpenFrameworks, Maya,Z-Brush, After Effects, Flash, Final Cut Pro and Photoshop. You’ll also develop your skills with our Vicon Motion Capture and Green screen facility.

During the foundation year you will learn how computers are used by a broad range of people and organisations as well as acquiring fundamental software development skills and knowledge of hardware. You also gain relevant mathematical and statistical skills and develop useful communication skills.

BSc Computer Networks

Our BSc Computer Networks and Security course lets you build on your existing knowledge to gain the skills, experience and industry-recognised certifications you need to excel in the rapidly growing network industry.

You’ll learn how to reduce security threats to networks, and develop the skills to design and implement internet and network applications. You’ll learn to experiment with the specialist equipment that lets you put your newfound skills into practice.

This versatile master's degree combines cognitive and clinical approaches to neuroscience. It seeks to apply neuroscientific techniques to further your understanding of the human mind and explores the underlying mechanisms associated with disease and disorders of the nervous system. You'll be equipped with an understanding of contemporary issues in cognitive and clinical neuroscience and developing your skills and ability to use neuroscientific methods in a research and clinical environment.

• This course focuses on the advanced study of neuroscience, with a focus on understanding the brain in both health and disease.
• A uniquely interdisciplinary course, you'll be taught by internationally recognised academics from both the Psychology department and in Biomedical Sciences. You'll have access to state-of-the-art neuroscience equipment, such as electroencephalography (EEG) and non-invasive brain stimulation as well as lab facilities to get hands-on experience in neuroimaging and non-invasive neuro-stimulation techniques.
