Our Medical Science (deferred choice) BSc Honours degree allows you to explore all of the biomedical and biomolecular specialisms we offer to develop a broad understanding of the subjects. You can then choose the area of study you wish to focus on for the remaining two years of your degree.

Earth science covers everything from the formation of rocks and minerals to the impact of human activity on the environment.

You'll study the Earth at the molecular, micro and macro-scale, from the chemistry of a single element to the processes that shape the continents.

Your key areas of study include:

Understanding how these areas interact and combine to create the complexity of the Earth system is what makes Earth science a fascinating area to study.

The practical skills you develop in geomatics – the fourth element of the degree – allow you to collect and analyse data about the world. This prepares you for diverse and in-demand careers.

Regular field days and residential field courses allow you to experience the Earth in action. You'll develop practical skills and network with Earth science professionals. 

This programme follows the same programme as our Marine Technology with Naval Architecture BEng Honours degree. It focuses on developing skills across all aspects of the design and operation of ships and other large floating structures. You'll gain a broad engineering education. This equips you with key engineering skills engineers apply to industry-specific problems. This accredited degree also provides a direct route to Chartered Engineer status.

You'll have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in advanced topics of naval architecture during your third and fourth year. You'll specialise in a field that interests you. This enables you to graduate in your chosen specialism tailored to your career of choice. Specialisms include:

• Offshore engineering, including offshore design, marine structures, and offshore engineering
• Small craft technology, including small craft design, marine structures and small craft hydrodynamics)

In Year 4 you'll develop your technical and professional-standard skills. This will be through a final group design project.

We work with industry so your studies reflect the challenges engineers face in the real world. You'll have hands-on practical learning and optional industry placements. They give you the opportunity to put your theory into practice. You'll gain invaluable experience in the sector.

Our professionally accredited three-year Statistics BSc Honours degree provides a firm foundation in the ideas and techniques of modern statistics.

All our mathematics and statistics degrees focus on three core areas – pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics – and you have the flexibility to tailor the combination of these to suit your interests.

On this degree, you will select mostly statistics modules in the later Stages. These include:

• Foundations of probability
• Regression and modelling
• Bayesian statistics

You can also choose optional modules linked to the research expertise of our staff and learn about the latest developments in the discipline, such as advanced hydrodynamics, quantum mechanics, and Bayesian inference.

You will learn about the design and development of dependable software systems.

Explore different aspects of computing science – such as games design, bioinformatics, and security – in your first two years.

Spend a year on an accredited, paid industrial placement between Stages 2 and 3.

Study specialist modules in Stage 3 – such as cryptographies and software verification technology – to develop skills and knowledge for your chosen career.

Security and Resilience
Graduates of our degrees in Security and Resilience will have particular knowledge and skills related to the development of dependable software systems.

Armed with knowledge of issues such as security mechanisms for computing, software verification techniques and tools, cryptography, and cryptographic protocols, you will be well placed for employment in technical positions in software houses and with companies designing and deploying dependable software in safety-critical industry sectors.

The course covers the intricate politics, institutions, law and policies of the European Union. The international and global political context in which the EU operates is also addressed.

The Applied Linguistics pathway is a specialism on the Cross-Cultural Communication MA. It allows you to study applied linguistics and intercultural communication. It provides knowledge and expertise in the new approaches and techniques for teaching English as a second or foreign language.

This course will give you a head start on your career with industry-recognised accreditations, research-informed teaching, and practitioner insight.

Balancing practical application and the development of technical skills, the programme covers the core areas of financial accounting, management accounting, and finance.

This degree gives you the opportunity to focus on physical geography from the very start. You'll develop a deep understanding of the processes that shape our planet and how they impact on human lives and communities. Alongside this, you'll develop advanced laboratory and GIS skills.

Having already performed very well in A level Geography, you'll continue to build a firm foundation of knowledge and skills in Stage 1, enabling you to thrive in the final stages. The turning point of the degree is a residential field course module in Stage 2.
