The MA in Comparative Literatures and Cultures gives you the opportunity to study the encounters and exchanges between literatures and cultures across Europe and beyond. We welcome graduates of all arts and humanities disciplines.

You will become acquainted with the theory and practice of comparative cultural study, and consider how concepts of national cultures cross borders and interact with ideas of the global and transnational. You will gain a thorough grounding in cultural theory, critical reading and research skills, and put this theoretical knowledge into practice by studying topics and themes that span the disciplines, national contexts and time periods taught by experts in the School of Modern Languages.

While knowledge of a foreign language is not a requirement for this program, you will have the opportunity to learn a language at a variety of levels, from beginner to advanced, and to engage with material in foreign languages throughout the MA. The program culminates in a dissertation - an extended piece of original academic research.

As a postgraduate, you will be considered a full member of the academic community, with the opportunity to participate in the many research seminars and conferences taking place within the Faculty of Arts.

Our joint honours English and Spanish degree allows you to study two complementary disciplines, both of which ask you to think carefully about culture and historical context and pay close attention to detail while comprehending and analysing language.

You will explore a rich variety of texts in their social, political and historical contexts and will develop excellent critical and communication skills, both in English and in Spanish. To be effective in business and management in a multinational environment requires an understanding of the cultural, economic, political and social contexts in which organisations operate, both within and across national borders.

BSc International Business Management will help you develop the intellectual, analytical, critical and employability skills you will need to succeed as a manager and leader in careers across different sectors.

Your first year will introduce basic concepts and tools – both qualitative and quantitative – for the study of management, as well as exploring the global business environment. You will also learn relevant aspects of marketing and accounting and have an opportunity to undertake a piece of research or learn a language.

During your second year we will help you to deepen your understanding of research design, data collection and data analysis, including statistical analysis of survey data, interviews and observation in organisations, in preparation for your final-year dissertation. This is a piece of individual research in which you can focus on a topic that stimulates your interest the most.

Alongside your preparation for, and production of, the dissertation, you will take other core and optional units during your second and final years.

Italy is both traditional and modern and this tension is apparent throughout its history and culture. As the United Kingdom forges a new relationship with its European partners and seeks to develop its trading and cultural ties throughout the world, expertise in modern languages is more important than ever.

In the Department of Film and Television, guided by leading scholars and practitioners, you will explore the history of film and television. You will consider theoretical perspectives, appreciate how films are made and engage in practical filmmaking activities.

Alongside film you will study Italian language, history and culture units, choosing from a wide range of options that allow you to pursue your own interests. Both departments offer a vibrant learning environment with research-led teaching.

This challenging, one-year taught master’s degree covers a range of advanced topics in multimedia signal processing and communications. These include the properties and limitations of modern communication channels and networks, alongside the coding and compression methods required for efficient and reliable wired and wireless audio-visual transmission. The program builds on the research strengths of the Visual Information Laboratory and the Communication Systems and Networks Group within the Faculty of Engineering at Bristol. This MSc provides in-depth training in design, analysis and management skills relevant to the theory and practice of the communication networks industry.
