Digital technologies drive economic growth, yet create new cyber risks demanding ever more sophisticated solutions. There is worldwide demand for new and innovative approaches to tackle global cyber-threats specific to large-scale infrastructures, from energy production to finance through to healthcare and smart transportation. The cyber security of such infrastructures is paramount – their disruption can have large-scale impacts on society as well as massive business losses. There is a major shortage of cyber security professionals globally, and the specialist nature of critical infrastructures makes the problem even more acute.

A strong ethos of rigorous experimental and empirical cyber security research underpins the MSc, facilitated by a state-of-the-art testbed for studying critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and Internet of Things (IoT) security, and bespoke teaching equipment. You’ll learn to apply foundational cyber security techniques to infrastructure and will develop the skills for engineering scalable solutions. You'll be exposed to real-world problems that are practical and challenge-oriented, but underpinned by rigorous research.

This MSc aims to:

• Enable a deep understanding of fundamental concepts, design principles, building blocks and methods to understand and mitigate against cyber security threats;
• Give you hands-on experience of working with devices, systems and networks utilised in realistic infrastructure environments;
• Equip you with the ability to apply security principles and technical knowledge to analyse complex real-world infrastructures systems (including software systems, networks, control systems and IoT) to identify potential security issues and solutions;
• Provide you with the skills to reason critically about complex problems that require evaluation and analysis from a multi-dimensional perspective including technical, human and organisational aspects.

Our MSci Zoology degree is recommended for students with ambitions to continue in zoological research who want extra experience and a competitive edge in applying for PhDs or research jobs.

The University of Bristol's MSc in Climate Change Science and Policy trains highly skilled graduates with a solid grounding in climate change science, alongside a critical understanding of the context for action on climate change. The programme is designed for students with a background in science (through their undergraduate or work experience) and includes hands-on quantitative training with climate models and climate data. Physics is an inherently international activity carried out by scientists in institutions throughout the world, sometimes competing and often collaborating. This degree will give you an early introduction to this key aspect of physics. It offers you the chance to combine in-depth training as a physicist with the experience of living and working as a researcher overseas.

During your third year overseas the programme you follow will be agreed with a tutor at Bristol and the working language will be English. You will be based at a partner university abroad, spending most of your time taking advantage of opportunities available locally. This will usually mean carrying out a full-time research project as part of a research team at the host university. This might entail nanophysics in Brazil, astrophysics in Canada or particle physics in the US.

Alternatively, you can take taught courses through Bristol's Global Opportunities programme. You will continue to study core physics via distance learning in readiness for returning to Bristol for your final year.

The course gives you the opportunity to develop a physicist's broad range of skills, including problem solving, numeracy and communication, and to supplement these with the experimental, theoretical and analytical skills needed for a career in research and industry.

This program examines and deploys perspectives from feminism, gender studies, cultural studies and sexuality studies, along with interdisciplinary research in international political economy, civil–military relations, international development and the study of men and masculinities.

This course is equally weighted towards sociology and philosophy and you will take units from both subjects throughout the course.

The sociology half of the degree places particular emphasis on sociological theory and its application to real-world concerns covering topics such as consumption, the environment, modern slavery, risk and food.
