This Year in Industry degree provides the opportunity to spend your third year in an industrial environment applying the knowledge gained in your first two years of study. There is no direct entry on to this course but you can transfer from MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering after year two if you reach a high academic standard and are successful at interview with industry. Places are limited and highly competitive.

Years one and two provide a strong grounding in mathematics, computing, analogue and digital electronics, communications, electromagnetics, power electronics and control. You will spend your third year on a placement in industry.

In the fourth and fifth years you will choose from a range of optional units and individual project topics, meaning you can focus on anything from electrical power systems to electronic communications.

Year one introduces the principles of comparative anatomy and the structure of the major mammalian body systems. Teaching involves some dissection and study of human and animal prosected cadaveric specimens.

Year two covers detailed medical and veterinary anatomy and allows you to specialise in medical or veterinary anatomy by dissection. Units in the second year emphasise clinical relevance and application throughout.

In year three you will follow a seminar-based course in which you will be actively involved in expert-led discussion of the latest anatomical research. MSci Chemistry with Scientific Computing combines study of the structure and synthesis of matter with development of computational and data analysis skills. It creates a new kind of scientist – one with a firm foundation in chemistry, a sound appreciation of scientific computing and an understanding of what can be achieved by combining them.

The course offers a unique combination of units and projects, incorporating coding, machine learning and high-performance computing, as well as fundamental concepts in inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, and applications in analytical, environmental, materials and theoretical chemistry.

Our MSci course is suited to you if you want to gain a solid foundation for a career in coding, scientific computing, the chemical industry or research. You will learn to design experiments, interpret results and apply computing skills to problems in chemistry. You will also take units in communications and mathematics and work on group projects, researching and addressing problems faced in different sectors.

The course builds toward an independent research project. You will collaborate with our leading academics and their research teams, who are experts in computing and in chemistry, to address a current problem in chemistry. For example you may consider global warming, antibiotic resistance or fundamental understanding of chemical reactions.

This four-year degree combines years one, two and four of our MEng Aerospace Engineering with the chance to spend your third year at an English-speaking partner university overseas.

The first two years cover underpinning material organised into three streams:

• Aerodynamics
• Dynamics and control
• Structures and materials.

These subjects are taught with aerospace applications and examples. Further context, such as space applications and aviation operations, is covered in specialist units.

You will also learn skills that cross all three streams, such as computing, systems engineering and design.

If you achieve the required grades in your first two years and are selected, you will spend your third year at a partner institution overseas, for example in the US, Canada or Australia. You will rejoin the course in Bristol for your final year and will choose from a range of topics. Some options relate to particular application areas, such as helicopter aerodynamics, space systems or wind power.
