Suitable for graduates in economics or a highly quantitative discipline, this intensive one-year program offers advanced training in economics equipping you with the required skills for a career as an economist. The program offers specialist pathways that allow you to specialise in Economics and Data Science, Economic Policy or Macro-economics. Each pathway consists of a combination of core and specialised units, coordinated to maximise skill and depth of knowledge in your area of interest. Recent graduate destinations include Bank of England, the Government Economic Service and the Central Bank of Thailand.

This joint honours course is offered by the Department of Computer Science and Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and is designed to meet the needs of the computing and electronics industries.

You will understand how to design and build hardware and software for all types of computer systems in order to implement applications ranging from medical equipment and autonomous vehicles to finance systems.

Your first two years cover the foundations of computing and electronics, equipping you to work confidently in software and hardware. Year three includes a major project, either based in industry or industry inspired and undertaken at the University. You can tailor your fourth year to suit your interests by choosing an individual project and optional units.

The MEng course provides full accreditation for the qualification of Chartered Engineer. The first two years are common with the BEng Computer Science and Electronics and transfer between courses is possible until the end of year two subject to satisfactory performance.

This MSc will prepare you for a public health career in settings such as health services, government, research and the not-for-profit sector. You will gain core skills and knowledge that are applicable for public health work in the UK and internationally. These include critically appraising evidence, analysing and interpreting data, research methods, and applying methods to protect health, prevent ill-health and improve health services. The programme is suitable for students from clinical and non-clinical backgrounds.

The MSc covers the principles and practice of public health, health improvement, health protection, epidemiology and statistics, research methods and evaluation, health economics, ethics and healthcare services. You will learn from public health professionals, including colleagues from Public Health England, local government and the National Health Service, in addition to research-led teaching from multidisciplinary academic experts.

The MA in English Literature aims to deepen your passion for literature while developing the rigorous specialist skills essential to postgraduate-level research. If you wish to focus on a particular period you may follow a single pathway. Alternatively, if you want to broaden your engagement with English literature, you may choose no pathway, and combine optional units to suit your interests.

This four-year MSci course is for those considering scientific careers that will make direct use of their subject-specific knowledge and skills. The first and second years of this course are identical to MSci Chemical Physics but during year three you will spend 12 months on a placement as a paid employee in a company.

You will focus on areas at the interface between chemistry and physics, with limited treatment of organic chemistry and more physical and non-synthetic inorganic chemistry. Similarly, there is very little nuclear and particle physics after your first year but an emphasis on materials science and nanoscience.

As well as lectures and practical classes, small-group tutorials and workshops help develop your understanding of challenging and exciting concepts. Practical labs in both chemistry and physics help develop experimental techniques, computational modelling and programming skills needed in the final year for conducting a research project with a research team.

BSc Chemistry with Scientific Computing combines study of the structure and synthesis of matter with development of computational and data analysis skills. It creates a new kind of scientist – one with a firm foundation in chemistry, a sound appreciation of scientific computing and an understanding of what can be achieved by combining them.

The course offers a unique combination of units and projects incorporating coding, machine learning and high-performance computing, with fundamental concepts in inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, and applications in analytical, environmental, materials and theoretical chemistry.

You will learn to design experiments, interpret results and apply computing skills to problems in chemistry, and you will take units in communications and mathematics.
