This course allows you to specialise in the study of criminology within a social policy degree. It explores the nature, extent and causes of crime, justice, social harm and deviance in national and international contexts, as well as examining the policy responses to them within a broader conceptual and theoretical framework of social policy and related social science subjects.

The course seeks to address key questions such as: what are the serious crimes and other social harms that people experience? Why do they occur? How effective are criminal justice systems, policymakers and governments in tackling and responding to crimes and social harms? 

You will take compulsory first-year units that introduce you to the theoretical and conceptual debates about the meaning and existence of crime, harm and deviance in contemporary society, the way that crime is understood and represented and the range of responses to various crimes. In the second and third years you will learn about key thinkers in criminology and the policy responses to harm then select from optional units, which may include: Criminology Placement; Youth, Sexualities and Gendered Violence; Youth Justice; Punishment in Society; Globalisation, Crime Harm and Justice; Climate Emergency; Harms of the Powerful; Violence, Conflict and Forced Migration; Drugs and Society; and Understanding 'Terrorism'.

This course combines in-depth subject specialism in anthropology with interdisciplinary breadth, creative teamwork and entrepreneurial skills. Alongside your anthropology studies, you will apply your subject knowledge by translating ideas into plans for digital and creative enterprises, both social and commercial.

The course will teach you the fundamentals of anthropology in its broadest sense, studying humanity in all its diversity and covering the fundamental theories, methodologies and empirical bases of this interdisciplinary subject. You will recognise that human diversity holds multiple problems as well as creative solutions.

You will come together with students from other innovation disciplines, such as computer science and psychology, each contributing a unique perspective on a challenge as you identify needs and develop ideas. Ultimately, you'll create innovative solutions together.

By the time you graduate you will have a portfolio of work ranging from live client projects to planning your own entrepreneurial venture. You will have learned how to evaluate the potential of your product or service and how to finance it and you will have a network of peers and advisers who have worked with you along the way

The first two years of the MLibArts course are identical to the BA, with core interdisciplinary units, a language unit, a unit in which you learn to work with data, and optional units, which you can take from the disciplines offered by the Faculty of Arts. Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and is the most common second language in the US. Studying a modern language in the context of its speakers' history, literature, experience and outlook can broaden horizons and challenge preconceptions, including those about one's own language and country.

In the Department of Film and Television, guided by leading scholars and practitioners, you will explore the history of film and television. You will consider theoretical perspectives, appreciate how films are made and engage in practical filmmaking activities.

You will study film alongside Spanish language, history and culture units, choosing from a wide range of options that allow you to pursue your own interests. Both departments offer a vibrant learning environment with research-led teaching.

The MA in Religion provides advanced study of the religious traditions of both the West and Asia. The program offers two pathways:

• Buddhist Studies
• Theology and Religious Studies.

These reflect the expertise in the Department of Religion and Theology and allow you to study various religious traditions with scholars who are world-renowned experts in those fields.

The taught element of the program requires you to do some study of both Asian and Western religious traditions (irrespective of the pathway you choose) but also allows you to focus more rigorously on the study of either Buddhism or religion and theology more broadly. In either pathway, the aim is to help you engage in in-depth study, led by staff who teach careful, rigorous, scholarly research methods at a high level.
