The MSc Psychology of Education is a British Psychological Society (BPS)-accredited MSc conversion programme that provides students with an excellent grounding in the psychology of education. It draws on a wide range of theories and methods from across the core areas of psychology and encourages you to consider how they apply to education and educational contexts.

Students on the programme will benefit from our longstanding tradition of high-quality research and teaching in this area and will acquire unique skills in both psychology and research methods. The MSc Psychology of Education is designed specifically for individuals who do not already hold a BPS-accredited degree in psychology and who are seeking to achieve Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the BPS. Individuals who are already eligible for GBC, having graduated from a BPS-accredited psychology undergraduate programme, will cover similar content to what they have studied previously, but may be interested in this programme because of its applied focus and relevance for pursuing professional training.

The knowledge and skills you will obtain are highly desired by employers and relevant to a wide range of careers in which an understanding of human behaviour or research methods is relevant. Successful students will be eligible to apply for GBC with the BPS and for further professional training accredited by the BPS.

Our MSci Chemistry with Study Abroad course is suited to you if you want to deepen your understanding of the subject and broaden your experience by studying chemistry at an overseas university during your third year.

The first two years are common to all of our degree courses. You will study fundamental concepts in inorganic, organic and physical chemistry and applications in areas such as analytical, environmental, materials and theoretical chemistry.

You will develop your ability to design experiments and interpret results, and gain key skills through our chemistry-specific communications and mathematics units.

You will spend your third year studying abroad in the chemistry department of an English-speaking university before returning to Bristol for your final year. Our MSc in Mathematical Sciences is a flexible and challenging program, taught by leading experts in the field. It will help you to develop a wide range of mathematical techniques and gives you a solid foundation for further research or employment at the highest levels.

Under the guidance of an academic mentor, you will be offered a choice of units spanning the breadth of mathematics. There is a wide variety of combinations of units and themes, allowing you to add units from other schools to create an MSc that closely matches your interests. The taught element is followed by your chosen research project, which is supervised by an experienced research academic.

You will continue to study core physics via distance learning during your year in the industry in readiness for your final-year project or dissertation back at the University. Our students' final-year projects address questions at the frontier of our research fields and the most successful have been published in scientific journals.

The MSci Physiological Science is focused on an extended research project, which provides the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of how to plan and perform experimental research in a specialised subject area. The course provides valuable day-to-day experience of what it is like to be a researcher and develops the skills required to embark on a career in research.

The first three years follow the BSc Physiological Science. During years one and two you will learn how the major organ systems in the body function together to maintain health. Alongside physiology, you will have the opportunity to study complementary subjects, including pharmacology, anatomy and psychology, broadening your knowledge of the biomedical sciences.

By the third year you will be getting to grips with the latest cutting-edge research on topics such as neurological and psychiatric disorders and the heart in health and disease, taught by staff who are internationally recognised in their research area.

The majority of your fourth year will focus on an extended research project in a research laboratory environment. Alongside this you will develop valuable skills in communicating science to the public and will develop a portfolio of public engagement activities. You will also learn how to work effectively in groups and how to create and develop ideas to solve specific scientific challenges.

This final year will instil a range of skills essential for understanding how to plan and conduct research projects; these skills are widely applicable to future employment and benefit those considering future PhD training.
