This course allows you to combine subjects from the School of Economics and the School of Accounting and Finance with the benefit of one year abroad. 

The School of Accounting and Finance prepares you for a career in the accountancy profession or financial markets through access to subjects accredited by several professional accountancy bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Additionally, you will be prepared for a career as an economist, studying in a School of Economics run by world-leading experts. 

Places on the course are allocated on merit depending on first-year examination results and availability of spaces at destination universities.

This course combines philosophy with the study of French, providing a valuable skill set ideally tailored to the increasingly globalised workplace.

In philosophy you will study units covering introduction to philosophy, logic, and realism and normativity. In your first year you will gain a grounding in the fundamentals of philosophy through two mandatory introductory units: one exploring issues in epistemology and metaphysics and the other concerning moral and political philosophy. You will also take a unit exploring critical thinking and logic.

In year two you complete your foundation in philosophy with a mandatory unit on realism and normativity and conduct more detailed study in topics ranging from ethics to the philosophy of language.

In the final year you may undertake an independent study unit on almost any topic in philosophy, writing an extended essay in consultation with a supervisor. Final-year taught units relate to the research interests of staff in areas ranging from global justice to philosophy of physics.

Having achieved accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the course is provisionally validated by the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (ASAB) as fulfilling the academic requirements for accreditation as a Certificated Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CCAB) and already provides you with the opportunity to begin gaining the practical experience needed for certification as a CCAB. Your first two years are based predominantly within Bristol city centre where our pre-clinical facilities are situated at the UK's only School of Anatomy. Years three and four are based at Bristol Vet School in the beautiful Somerset village of Langford. In your first two years you will supplement your study of biochemistry with molecular biology and biotechnology units. Recent options have included Fundamentals of Molecular Microbiology, Disease and Defence, and Infection and Immunity.

Your third year introduces specialist, cutting-edge aspects of biochemistry, such as synthetic biology, DNA-protein interactions, and protein science in therapy and technology.

The LLM in Employment, Work and Equality has been well received by trade unions and NGOs as a distinctive programme that offers more than traditional courses in employment law. It provides an in-depth, intensive study of wide-ranging issues analysing domestic and international law, the role of human rights in regulating the labour market, the representative scope of trade unions, treatment of migrants at work and equality more generally.

Choosing our LLM in Employment, Work and Equality means you will be challenged and inspired by world-leading labour lawyers dedicated to progressive and innovative thinking around employment, work and equality law – with those teaching the course belonging to the Law School’s Centre for Law at Work.

This course is equally weighted towards sociology and philosophy and you will take units from both subjects throughout the course.

The sociology half of the degree places particular emphasis on sociological theory and its application to real-world concerns covering topics such as consumption, the environment, modern slavery, risk and food. Sociology also provides an opportunity to develop your research skills. The philosophy element offers you a thorough understanding of philosophy including logic and critical thinking, epistemology and metaphysics and a range of other units including ethics and political philosophy.

BSc Economics and Mathematics combines high-level mathematics with a technically rigorous economics programme that emphasises the use of mathematical tools, including econometrics.

Mandatory economics units develop your understanding of micro- and macro-economics, while the mathematics part of the degree builds your mathematical ability and allows you to explore applied topics that are particularly relevant to economics.

Having built a solid grounding in the fundamentals of both disciplines in your first year, the second and third years allow you to choose optional units to tailor your degree to your specific interests, including the option to complete an applied economics dissertation.
