Artificial intelligence is changing our homes, workplaces and lifestyles. Our course lets you explore this subject with optional modules in user experience design, autonomous systems, and machine learning.

You'll take part in a group project in year two which prepares you for creating the computer systems of the future. Many projects are in collaboration with industry. Previous students have worked with Capital One, Experian, IBM and UniDays. This is great for your CV and can help you make contacts ready for when you start your career.

The fourth year includes masters-level modules. You have full choice on what you'll study. You could focus on a programming project, look at advanced algorithms or be a STEM ambassador in schools.

Cyberphysical systems integrate computation with physical objects and processes. Examples of cyberphysical systems are:

• 'Smart' devices in the home such as a smart meter or fridge
• Voice assistant devices
• Driverless vehicles
• Medical monitoring equipment
• Wearable devices
• Robotic assistants

Our course is designed for students with a background in computer science or a related field with analytical skills. You'll learn the principles of integrated system design and computational and cyberphysical systems methods and tools. Core modules will broaden your knowledge in key topics such as artificial intelligence, robotics and cybersecurity.

During the summer period, you will undertake an individual research project. This could be software-based or research-based. Collaboration with business, industry, and other outside bodies is encouraged.

The development and use of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) have revolutionised areas such as computer vision, speech recognition and language processing.

On this course you will learn how to apply ML and AI techniques to real scientific problems. This will help you build vital skills, enhancing your employability in a rapidly expanding area.

Graduates of this course will learn how to:

• Identify and use relevant computational tools and programming techniques
• Apply statistical and physical principles to break down algorithms, and explain how they work
• Design strategies for applying machine learning to the analysis of scientific data sets.

In addition, you will develop a broad set of transferable skills, including communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

This course is available to students with or without a first degree in computer science.
