Our MMath Mathematics degree shows how mathematics is applied to solve practical problems, meaning you’ll learn the skills that employers need. Statistics is the area of mathematics you’ll use to explore and try to explain the uncertain world in which we live.

Accreditation

• The course is accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications for the purpose of meeting in full the educational requirement for chartered status.

This course will provide you with a critical understanding of the relationship between architecture and ecology, looking at both from a theoretical perspective. This will be done by instructional modules taken at Strathclyde in Glasgow during the first three months of study. The practical demonstration of this relationship will be through project work at the urban laboratory Arcosanti in Arizona.

The Cosanti Foundation, established by Dr Paolo Soleri in 1964, is an education-based architecture and urban design not-for-profit organisation located in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. The Foundation established the world-renowned Arcosanti project in 1970 as an urban laboratory focused on researching alternatives to urban sprawl, based on Soleri's work on ecological architecture, and his proposals for the design of future cities.

This is a unique opportunity to study your Masters degree while living and working at Arcosanti, helping to research, design and construct an alternative to urban sprawl, joining thousands of people who, since Arcosanti’s launch in 1970, have already been part of “one of the most important urban experiments in our lifetime” (Newsweek).

Our Masters in Autonomous Robotic Intelligent Systems is designed to provide a wide-ranging background in autonomous technologies that can be applied in a variety of disciplines. UK growth in the global robotics market is forecast to reach £13 billion by 2025 and this offers huge job opportunities. 

The course focuses on state-of-the-art technologies for autonomous control and machine learning with applications in robotics, sensor networks, big data analytics, and autonomous agents.

Studying history – the story of humanity through the ages – develops your knowledge of the past and gives you a better understanding of the present.

Our classes cover some of the most important and interesting historical periods at home and abroad, including Scotland’s ‘Highland Problem’ in the 16thcentury, Slavery in World History and Cold War Europe, 1945-1991.

Education is essential if you wish to study initial teacher education courses. We offer you the chance to develop knowledge of the education systems of Scotland and beyond, looking at issues including policy, social justice, equity and inclusion.

Combining education with other subjects provides opportunities for those who wish to work in professions associated with education, but who don't wish necessarily to become teachers. Please note that this course doesn't allow you to qualify as a teacher, though joint honours Education graduates will be able to explore postgraduate routes into teaching careers (via the PGDE).

Choosing Psychology as your second subject, you would be undertaking a 5-star course as rated by QS. Our main focus in psychology is the study of human behaviour. Studying with us, you'll look at conditions of behaviour – how we learn, remember, co-ordinate our actions and interact with others – and the reasons for differences between individuals, such as personality or intelligence. Due to the popularity of the course, performance-related criteria are in place to manage entry into Honours (Year 4); this means the numbers admitted to Years 2 and 3 of the course are limited and dependent on performance.

Pursuing this joint degree will give you a critical understanding of the media industry. You'll acquire technical and professional skills in journalism, communication, information design and management, and you'll use them in the dynamic media market of Glasgow and beyond. This programme gives you the opportunity to learn more about the social and economic challenges facing Scottish society and place these in a broader international perspective. It draws on disciplines such as history, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, psychology, social anthropology and politics.
