This joint degree bridges the gap between business analysis & technology, mathematics and statistics.

Our course emphasises how maths can be used to solve practical problems. Statistics can be used to explore and explain the uncertain world we live in.

The course runs parallel to the MArch/Pg Diploma in Advanced Architectural Design. It shares the same curriculum so you’ll join students on this course in an exciting and challenging environment.

You’ll develop skills in advanced design, analysis and architectural critique designing complex buildings in a variety of contexts and addressing social, cultural and environmental issues.

This course helps you to get a deeper insight into the necessary cyber-physical technologies and new developing business models.

Industry 4.0 concepts are revolutionising the world and modern industry is adopting rapidly and at a vast scale, creating new business models and digital technologies. Products are becoming increasingly customisable and interactive.

The power of digital manufacturing also allows creating agile and autonomous production processes that can deliver at scale through smart global digital communication technologies. Industry business models are also shifting significantly; extensive mass customisation is augmented by direct prosumer engagement and services become instantaneous and ubiquitous.

Digital manufacturing utilises Industry 4.0 technologies such as Cyber Physical Systems, Industrial Internet of Things, Additive Manufacturing and Autonomous Mechatronic Systems. Digital Manufacturing also feeds into new business models such as Through-Life Engineering and Cloud Manufacturing – all extremely hot topics with vast industrial as well as academic potential.

Our Biomolecular Science degree programmes will equip you with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours needed for careers in all branches of bioscience and allied professions.

You can defer your choice of degree specialisation until the end of Year 2, giving you the option to progress to single, joint Honours or an Integrated Masters degree in any of the biomolecular sciences.

Facilities
Specialist research equipment is available for use by our postgraduate students, including:

• Motion capture via a suite of six infra-red cameras
• A driving simulator which can be programmed to display different scenarios and be used in conjunction with other equipment
• Several types of eye tracker available which have been used to examine topics such as word reading and bias in attention to alcohol-related stimuli
• Two psychophysiology labs to measure electrodermal activity, heart activity, electromyographic signals and EEG
• Experiment generator package ‘E-Prime’
• A variety of questionnaires and ability measures including access to the online survey tool ‘Qualtrics’

Civil engineering develops and improves facilities and services that society needs – from the supply of clean water and energy to the design and construction of roads, railways and stations.

Tall buildings such as the Shard in London or the new Queensferry Bridge across the Firth of Forth are exciting examples of civil engineering.

Our graduates develop and renew towns and cities and improve links with remote communities.

Solving problems of air, land and water pollution and protecting society against natural disasters are also important aspects of civil engineering.

In recent years, our students have participated in the Constructionarium, attended Civil Engineering 4 Real and have taken part in our mentoring scheme involving graduate engineers with support companies such as BAM Nuttall, Sir Robert McAlpine, Tony Gee, Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors and Mott MacDonald.
