Pharmacists are experts in medicines who work alongside doctors, nurses and dentists as part of healthcare teams.

As a pharmacy graduate, you’ll need to understand the science behind drug discovery, development and delivery along with how patients react to the medicines they take. Biochemistry is the study of biological systems at molecular level. Biochemistry and the related field of molecular biology are important in understanding the molecular basis of life and its role in the disease process.

Microbiology is the study of the smallest living organisms (micro-organisms or microbes) and includes viruses, bacteria, fungi, algae and protozoa. Microbes are a major cause of disease in humans but they can also be useful in industrial processes from pollution control to the production of important therapeutic compounds.

The opportunity to choose specific degree combinations will allow you to go into specialist biomedical science areas such as neuroscience, cardiovascular research, immunopharmacology, industrial immunology, drug research, biochemistry, microbiology and bacteriology.

The course provides specialised knowledge of the analytical techniques used to detect, identify and quantitatively determine drugs and related substances. You'll be introduced to techniques for evaluating analytical data and validating analytical methods and examine strategies for analytical research and development.

This one-year MRes in Climate Change Adaptation aims to provide advanced study in key issues related to climate change and global warming, and how infrastructure will need to adapt.

The course links with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in particular the different indicators associated with SDG13 on Climate Action. The course is largely research and project-based but there is also a taught element to it.

This course is designed to cater mainly for graduates with an engineering education, and employees of public and private sector companies who wish to upgrade their skills to be able to tackle the complex issues relating to the current climate crisis, circular economy goals, and the design of engineering options for mitigating environmental impacts and promoting sustainable development.

This unique course, running since 2008 – the first of its kind in Europe – meets the needs of graduate students who want to contribute to environmental improvement and the circular economy, and learn how to identify and evaluate business opportunities. The course is suitable for anyone who'd like to refocus their career on environmental or sustainable entrepreneurship. You'll develop skills to enable you to launch new ventures, strategies, products and technologies that address society's environmental and natural resource problems. It's a collaboration between the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship.

Studying accounting at Strathclyde, you'll learn about the preparation, presentation and interpretation of financial information that enables investors, lenders, management, employees, government and others to make effective decisions.

You'll also learn how to read and interpret accounting information in the annual reports of businesses and the financial information within the public sector and become familiar with the principles and practice of presenting information to those who manage all types of organisations.

Accounting at Strathclyde is fully accredited for entry to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland in the majority of study combinations, as well as offering possible exemptions to other professional bodies, eg Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

In business law, you’ll study commercial law and business legal regulations. These include company law, competition law and human rights law.

Business law can only be studied as a second subject as a joint Honours option.
