Our Visual and Material Culture of Ancient Greece MA course provides a thorough preparation in research techniques if you are considering further research in the fields of art, numismatics or epigraphy, or are working on an historical topic that involves the consideration of material evidence. It will also provide a detailed understanding of ancient visual and material culture to prepare you if you are aiming to enter a career in museums and curatorial work, or in education.

For the Visual and Material Culture of Ancient Greece course, one module is taught at the British School, Athens. It focuses on a different skill set for handling Ancient Greek material culture from year to year. Please note admission is subject to the discretion of the British Schools and cannot be guaranteed by Warwick.

The degree is designed to introduce you to major issues in the study of ancient material culture, and to key methodologies and approaches. It will help to develop your intellectual skills in the following areas:

Providing comprehensive training in essential elements of modern communication and information engineering, this degree delivers information-theoretic underpinnings alongside physical-layer aspects of optical and radio transmission. You will also explore developments in radio network architectures and deployment and have opportunities to study communications technologies, data analytics and data mining, in terms of algorithms and goals in real-world problems.

When you graduate, you will be well equipped for employment opportunities in modern information and communication engineering, which is currently undergoing a revolution.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, a cyber physical age, will be realised over the next 20 years.

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to be at the forefront of these exciting developments and is delivered in partnership with WMG (Warwick Manufacturing Group), renowned worldwide for its innovative links between academia and industry.

All Engineering students at Warwick develop an in-depth understanding of the classical principles of Engineering by following a general engineering programme for the first four terms. You can then specialise in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, where you will learn and develop state-of-the-art techniques and methodologies that graduates find directly applicable in industry.

Study abroad

You may choose to take an intercalated year in industry, research or study abroad between years two and three (BEng and MEng) or between years three and four (MEng only). If you choose to take an intercalated year this will be reflected in your degree title, and add a year to your degree programme.

This course invites you to engage with the growing importance of culture, and of policymaking in the field of culture, in a range of contexts worldwide. You will engage with the practical realities of cultural and managerial practice and critically reflect on the real world examples you encounter. You will examine what culture is and how it can be and is used by national, international, and local governments to benefit states and support and regulate the arts, as well as to express power and control.

Investigating current issues, themes and developments such as cultural diplomacy and cultural democracy will expand your knowledge but also improve your ability to research. Your practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the realm of culture, policy, and management will enhance your CV, and you will be able to apply them in a multitude of workplace contexts in the cultural sector, in government, or as a freelancer. On completion, you will be ready for the world of work, research, or higher study.

This degree allows you to develop an in-depth knowledge of German language and culture while also exploring theatre and performance studies through both practice and theory.

You benefit from the full range of expertise on offer in both departments, including cultural and historical modules in the School of Modern Languages, and specialisms in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies including theatre in the African context, contemporary European theatre, applied theatre and playwriting.

You will normally spend your second or third year abroad, consolidating and enhancing your learning. If you are studying German for the first time, your year abroad will normally be in your third year.

Study abroad

We strongly recommend that you take a year abroad as part of your modern languages degree, if you are able to. If you are unable to take a year abroad you will move to a three-year. You will be required to complete further language reinforcement work. You will also be encouraged to spend time abroad in other ways, during vacation times.

You will usually spend your year abroad doing one of three things:

• Working as a language assistant teaching English in a primary or secondary school
• Studying full-time at a partner university in your chosen country
• On a work placement

The MA in English and Drama offers an exciting opportunity to specialise in the study of dramatic texts and theatre history while maintaining a range of interests within the field of literary studies more broadly. You will work with leading experts in Shakespeare and early modern drama, theatre history, and modern performance theory and practice.

This MA combines a focus on dramatic texts and theatrical performance and includes the option of a professional placement or an extended practical project. In addition to the core module in Drama and Performance theory, you will study three modules of your choice, and write a dissertation on an (approved) topic with a specialised supervisor.

In Global Sustainable Development (GSD) we take a critical approach to the dominant discourse of sustainable development. We are committed to understanding as well as challenging existing practice, and want you to join us as we seek innovative, transformative responses to complex global challenges. Based in the School for Cross-faculty Studies, our academic home is a natural place for future transdisciplinary leaders to flourish.

On this course you will work with Warwick’s GSD Department, the Institute for Global Sustainable Development (IGSD), and partner departments across the University. Our staff are at the forefront of their fields and share your passion for global sustainable development.

Core modules will support your development as an intellectual leader dedicated to bringing about positive change. They will help to deepen your understanding of the core global challenges we face, and develop your critical and reflective approach, as well as your technical and methodological skills. Your learning will be rooted in critical intellectual enquiry and philosophical understanding, which will support your personal development as a leader of thought and action. In addition, by having a wide range of optional modules, you can tailor the course to your own areas of interest.

In Term Three and the summer, you will have an exciting opportunity to ‘learn by doing’ as you undertake a transdisciplinary capstone project. We will offer you a choice of research, practice, and work-based experiences. Your chosen project will enable you to develop a skillset most suited to your future career goals.

By the end of this course, you will be equipped to play an authentic role in reflective global citizenship. You will also have a defined understanding of what is necessary to act as a leader of positive change. The route you choose upon graduation will be defined by your own interests and aspirations. Your learning from the course will equip you with what you need for a career in applied research, in policy, business, or in third sector activity.

Taking a cross-discipline approach, you will consider the relationships between a functioning society, and how political and legal systems are structured and operate. The course will also develop your understanding of the philosophical origins and basis for law and politics.

You may explore concepts such as justice, freedom, morals and democracy, as well as the formulation and implementation of law and policy across the world. In addition to core modules in each discipline, there is significant flexibility as the course progresses to choose optional modules from within the three departments as well as across the University.

You will have the opportunity to apply to spend a year abroad with one of our international partners and you may also apply to take a work placement.

Study abroad

We support student mobility through year abroad programs. PPL students have the opportunity to apply for an intercalated year of study abroad at one of our prestigious partner universities.

By branching into medicinal chemistry you will apply your chemical knowledge to the discovery, design, and synthesis of new drugs for clinical use. Our four-year Medicinal Chemistry degree combines a solid foundation in chemistry with specialist knowledge in advanced medicinal chemistry/biochemistry.

Specialist modules explore the process of medicinal drug discovery, from the initial concept of a new product to the discovery stage, clinical trials, scale-up, and production. You can explore the biochemistry of these processes, and how this leads to medical breakthroughs. In addition to research-led teaching from top academics, you will benefit from external lectures given by pharmaceutical industry leaders. You will also complete a final-year research project.

Study abroad

Our programmes offer a range of options to work or study abroad for three, six or 12 months, for example at a pharmaceutical company or at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

English and Italian is a degree with a strong comparative approach.

There is a core Italian language module in every year of study. First-year core modules will introduce you to Italian literature and culture, English literature, and comparative literatures.

In your intermediate and final years all English and Italian optional modules are open to you, spanning topics from literature and critical theory to history, politics, philosophy and film.

In your final year, you can choose to write a dissertation on comparative Italian and English literature. This course is aimed at students who wish to unite linguistic proficiency with sophisticated literary and cultural analysis.
