In this programme you will be invited to develop your understanding of creative organisations, teams, value creation, and markets within the global creative economy. We encourage you to consider a creative approach to management and a managed approach to creativity, which can then be applied to a range of scenarios and industries.

You will also develop your understanding of intellectual property and its strategic and regulatory significance within the creative and media industries. This course will invite you to critically reflect on the theories and ideas that shape industry practice, and help you to tackle the real challenges of running a creative business.

Our programme is a disciplinary degree that focuses on the region for its case studies and offers strong disciplinary expertise combined with genuine regional expertise.

East Asia’s emergence as the most dynamic region in the global political economy continues despite a series of economic and security crises since the early 1990s. If anything, the crises reinvigorated the study of the international relations and political economy of East Asia. Instead of just focusing on economic growth, the crises highlighted key actors’ interests and historical and ideational factors behind them, the impact of globalisation on the region and existing development paradigms, US-China great power competition, and the need for greater regional cooperation to cope with future security and economic risks.

The course seeks to prepare you to become Global Citizens with a conscience, equipped with knowledge and understanding of the key issues of sustainable development from across a broad range of disciplines.

Adopting a problem-based approach, which fosters the investigation of issues using a range of means of enquiry used by researchers from the sciences, arts and social sciences fields, you will work with peers from other Global Sustainable Development (GSD) courses to explore the different approaches and solutions offered, their implications and limitations and their inter-connectivity.

You’ll be stimulated to think critically and creatively about contemporary problems of global significance and to explore ethically and morally complex areas in the search for positive interventions with a beneficial impact. Embracing new opinions from your peers across the world, we will challenge you to become an active participant in your own learning.

You can enhance your skills and studies through optional work placements, study abroad, and certificates.

Study abroad

We encourage you to take the opportunity to study abroad during your course at Warwick.

You may choose to apply for an intercalated year spent either studying abroad or on a work placement (subject to you meeting departmental academic requirements). This will mean extending your course to four years.

If you want to extend your learning and broaden your perspective by studying abroad for a year, Warwick has partnerships with universities across the world. You will spend your first and second years at Warwick, studying abroad in your third year. You will then return to Warwick for your final year.

Specifically designed for students who wish to pursue an academic research career, the course offers first-hand research experience through placements in different laboratories, working on thematically related research. This lab rotation offers strong candidates for doctoral research more scope to explore different topics within their areas of interest than the traditional options at Master’s level.

Two placements taken during the course allow you to contribute directly to your chosen supervisors’ research. A subsequent research project then gives you the chance to put this experience into practice in developing your own area of study, supported through the advice of relevant academics. Our partnership with WBS (Warwick Business School) provides you with a flexible combination of computer science and business, making you attractive to employers who value technical skills and commercial awareness in their graduates.

You will develop the background and skills to develop a deeper understanding of computer science, including areas such as operating systems and computer networks, computational theory and software engineering.

In your third year you will attend Warwick Business School, where world-leading academics and industry professionals will teach you about business and management practices. You may, for example, take modules covering marketing and strategy, finance and entrepreneurship.

Study abroad

You can spend a year at one of our partner institutions overseas. We have an established exchange programme with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, which provides opportunities for our students to experience teaching and learning at another world-leading institution.

In addition to benefitting from a rich cultural experience, students returning from studying overseas exhibit an international profile that is attractive to potential employers.

On this course you will undertake in-depth comparative and contextual study of the regulation of a company. You will look at the various ways in which different jurisdictions respond to similar economic and social pressures, examining key topics in the post financial crisis era. You will develop an understanding of the interaction between the process of globalisation and general principles and theories of corporate governance and financial regulation.

The course allows you to study the main topics in corporate governance and financial law and regulation, including compliance dimensions but you will also learn to appreciate the economic and social context in which commercial decisions are made and corporate governance and financial regulation operate with reference to historical developments.

This course offers training in the foundations of psychology, decision-making, and behavioural economics. It will also develop your understanding of state-of-the-art methods in data science and data analytics, focusing on statistical methods, machine learning, and data visualisation.

You will gain an understanding of large-scale patterns in data, with an eye to comprehending the underlying factors driving human behaviour. This can be used to understand economics, politics, history, wellbeing, and many other large-scale patterns at national and international levels. Previous experience in behavioural science is not necessary, but you should have basic programming skills in at least one programming language.

• Use data to understand how and why people make the choices they do, and understanding the consequences of their choices in relation to public policy (e.g. encouraging people to save for pensions or change to low-carbon behaviours), industry (e.g. understanding how to place a new product in the market), and individual behaviour (e.g. understanding why people drink and eat too much)
• Access and analyse large-scale datasets
• Utilise state-of-the-art techniques in data analysis and visualisation
• Design and conduct studies using data analysis to understand behaviour

By studying linguistics together with Chinese, you will explore the fascinating human capacity for language, while also building your fluency in Chinese. As a linguist, you will learn about the structure and function of language, and about relationships between language and society.

You will also study and practice written and oral communication in Chinese, and learn broadly about communicating across languages and cultures. Your skills in linguistic analysis will support your language learning, and your knowledge of Chinese will complement your work as a linguist. This course opens many career opportunities that require the knowledge and skills of both a modern language and a deep understanding of language, culture and communication.

(75% linguistics, 25% Chinese).

Study abroad

• If you wish to spend a year abroad (which we thoroughly recommend), this will take place in your third year, meaning that you will complete your degree in four years instead of three. All students have the opportunity to apply for an intercalated year abroad at one of our partner universities.

Designed to be a gateway to a PhD, our IBR MSc programme will equip you with knowledge and skills in both life and physical sciences.

Warwick’s multidisciplinary ethos is not only demonstrated by a large choice of modules from physical biology, statistics, imaging, programming and modelling but also by masterclasses on cellular dynamics, microbiology and infection or applied medical technologies. During the year you will have the opportunity to conduct two 12-week research projects in two different disciplines preparing you for your future career.

During the course, you will consider the complexity of services that bring together people, organisations, technologies and information, in order to deliver value for the customer. You will learn the tools and techniques to design the systems needed to work with your customer, and ensure the best outcomes are achieved. You will learn to structure a service organisation, and will look at excellence in service from a variety of international sector perspectives.  

This course will review operationally how you go about using techniques to design service experience, lead change, and drive business transformation. It will show you how you go about building reputation, relationships, and brand with your customer. It will help you make sense of big data, and the use of technology to effectively support service delivery.
