Physics is the study of the fundamental forces of the Universe, understanding the nature of waves and particles, and the structure of matter.

On this flexible course you'll study with leading experts in their field from the Departments of Archaeology, English, History, History of Art, Sociology and the Centre for Women’s Studies. We'll introduce you to the various means by which different disciplines conceptualise and analyse the period. Our Masters in Stained Glass Conservation and Heritage Management will give you practical experience with up-to-date conservation techniques, and an opportunity to work with leading conservation studios, providing you with invaluable work experience, and networks for your future career.

You'll train for a variety of employment in stained glass conservation, cultural heritage management, arts administration, museums, and the administration of historic buildings. You'll combine practical work with intensive seminar study to investigate the key issues in approaches to conservation and heritage. The course will also prepare you for a higher research degree.

The course is based entirely on the historic campus at King's Manor in the heart of the medieval city of York, and you will have continuous access to our dedicated conservation and teaching studio.

This course provides practical experience and a broad foundation in computing applications that is highly valued in the heritage sector. You'll have access to a full suite of research computing hardware and software and develop knowledge of internet applications, database design and management, Graphics Information System (GIS) technology, CAD and computer modelling systems.

At York, we've been at the forefront of researching and developing archaeological computing applications since the early days of digital practice in the field. We host Internet Archaeology, the first online peer-reviewed e-journal for archaeology, as well as the Archaeological Data Service, the largest and oldest repository for archaeological data in the world.

Many of our graduates go on to careers in archaeological computing, working in contract units or county-based records organisations. Others apply their computing skills in more mainstream archaeological work, in museums, or in a variety of other fields.

Our flexible course has exceptional historical and geographical breadth and depth, encompassing architecture, art objects and their related visual practices from the antique to the contemporary.

You’ll have the choice of a wide range of modules giving you the opportunity to study art by time period, to focus on a specific medium, or to pursue a specific methodological perspective.

The course caters for generalists with broad interests, and those who are coming to art history from another discipline. You can also specialise at a later stage in your degree, with your dissertation topic choice.
