The Bachelors of Science in Information Systems and Business Analytics (ISBA) is designed to prepare students for careers as IT professionals.  Our graduates hold positions as network administrators, application programmers, website developers, database architects, operations schedulers, and technical support specialists, to name a few.  

Of particular interest to potential students who already have practical IT experience should be the alignment of many ISBA courses with industry certifications. Consequently, students can simultaneously complete their major requirements and prepare for industry certification exams.  This further makes it possible for students to receive course credit for certifications already earned.

The Department of ISBA, provides instruction and conducts research addressing information systems and the technology supporting those systems. We are involved also, through technology transfer, in assisting the University with its economic development mission for the Delta Region and beyond. In addition, as consultants, we serve other constituents within the University and around the local community.

The multidisciplinary curriculum for this degree was carefully designed to meet market-driven, industry-centric needs. Delivered by faculty who are committed to teaching excellence and innovation, our Hospitality & Event Tourism Management (HETM) degree yields transferable skills, extending career possibilities.

Students in this program:

The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program, a one-year master’s degree plan consisting of 30 semester credit hours, is designed for all engineers on management career paths as well as for those charged with managing technology in engineering, manufacturing, and other high-tech organizations. The MEM degree program will also benefit engineers pursuing licensure in states where candidates for professional licensure are required to have an additional 30 semester credit hours of coursework beyond the bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in engineering. The curriculum consists of courses offered by the A-State College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Due to the flexible scheduling of our courses, the program accommodates working professionals seeking career advancement and/or career changes as well as recent graduates desiring to move into positions with management responsibility.

Program Outcomes
Program graduates will have:

• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to identify critical issues, formulate realistic solutions, evaluate alternatives, and solve technical problems.
• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to interpret statistical or deterministic models and concepts as well as apply them to technical problems.
• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to express alternatives and solutions dealing with technical problems.
• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to function effectively as a member or leader on a technical team.

The Coordinated Program (CP) in Dietetics at Arkansas State University – Jonesboro is administered by the Dietetics Program in the College of Nursing & Health Professions. The program provides for the achievement of knowledge and performance requirements for entry-level dietitians through integration of didactic instruction with a minimum of 1080 hours of supervised practice and a minimum of 120 alternate supervised practice experiences, as established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The supervised practice experiences occur in foodservice, community and clinical settings. The program features a “clinical” concentration, which allows students to build upon foundation knowledge and competencies for future proficiency in the clinical area of dietetics.

Students apply for admission to the CP after they have finished the sophomore year. The CP requires two years to complete the didactic instruction and supervised practice rotations. Students must have reliable transportation for travel to various practice sites for the rotations. A Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics is granted to students upon completion of the program. Upon graduation, students are eligible to take the national credentialing examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) to become registered dietitians. In addition to RD credentialing, many states have regulatory laws for dietitians and nutrition practitioners. Frequently these state requirements are met through the same education and training required to become an RD.

The BS Psychology program supports the Arkansas State University mission by providing students with a challenging environment designed to foster understanding of themselves and others. The primary purpose of the program is to prepare students to take advantage of professional and personal opportunities for growth and community engagement. This purpose is met through a faculty that is committed to best practices in education, engaged in cutting-edge research, and provides students with hands on experiences in research, psychological wellness and community outreach projects.

The Department of Art at Arkansas State University will provide an educational environment that fosters the creation and understanding of art. Students in art develop insight, sensitivity, and perception toward all aspects of nature while building individual expressive responses. Aesthetic and functional values, creative ideas, and media skills are developed through instructional guidance and applied experience in the studio and classroom.

Learning Outside the Classroom
Some of the courses may involve field trips to Memphis Brooks Museum, The Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, or other regional art collections. Arkansas State University is an Accredited Institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

Why the BFA?
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs are designed to prepare students for professional careers as a classroom art teacher, graphic designer, or studio artist. The BFA in Graphic Design is the initial professional degree, and it is the requisite degree for the student who plans to pursue a studio-oriented post-baccalaureate degree.

The major in history with the Bachelor of Arts degree is recommended for those seeking a liberal education and aspiring to careers in history, law, theology, journalism, and library work; in local, state, and national public service; in business where a knowledge of domestic and foreign affairs is desirable; and in every area which requires an understanding of human activity.

The Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (BSIS) degree is designed to offer highly motivated and self-directed students the opportunity to design their own major. As an alternative to traditional majors, the BSIS Program allows students to pursue their educational goals in areas not available within existing departmental curricula. With the help of a faculty sponsor, students select courses on the basis of a unifying issue, topic, theme, culture, period, or question which is considered the thematic study. Approved thematic courses must be interdisciplinary in nature, pull from at least two fields or disciplines, and may not duplicate an existing major. Courses may be chosen from any of the departments within the University.

Experiential learning is strongly encouraged. Students may seek national exchange and study abroad opportunities, internships, and independent studies as part of their thematic coursework. Each student’s program of study is developed with the advice and approval of both the student’s chosen faculty sponsor and a BSIS advisor. Students seeking a minor must use classes independently of those used in an area of emphasis. Students seeking a double major concurrently with their Interdisciplinary Studies degree or students who have completed a degree and are returning to complete a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies may only apply their general education courses toward an additional second program of study.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Studies degree serves a three-fold purpose for students that are:

• Planning to seek employment in a health or health related area upon graduation;
• Desiring a bachelor’s degree following an associate’s degree in health disciplines and
• Planning a health career that requires a post-baccalaureate plan of study.

This degree does not lead to a professional credential or state licensure. It does prepare students for roles in community health, support services, health care navigation, claims services, medical sales and patient services. Online certification is available in some areas such as compliance officer, health advocate and coding specialist.

Prerequisites

• Professional Track - The Professional Track requires students to have an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in an allied health related field (e.g., Physical Therapist Assistant, Clinical Laboratory, Nursing).
• Non-Professional Track - The Non-Professional Track does not require students to hold an AAS degree
