The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre is a 120-credit hour degree program designed to provide students with professional-caliber training within the framework of a liberal arts education with specific coursework in acting, directing, design, literature and history.

We want our students to be lifelong learners who are prepared to enter a complex, ever-changing global society. Our world-class faculty provides students with a foundation in the sciences, math, communications, writing, the humanities and more.

Emphases  in Acting

Students in the Acting emphasis select elective courses in scene study, dance, voice and speech, movement, stage combat, audition techniques, and Shakespeare performance.

The Department of Psychology and Counseling is committed to serving the university, the profession, and the public by contributing to excellence in  education, high professional standards for service delivery, and consumer advocacy. The department is also committed to research and scholarly activities to expand the academic knowledge base and to improve the quality of professional services.

The primary mission of the department is to teach basic principles underlying psychology as a behavioral science and to prepare graduate-level students to become psychological-counseling professional service providers.

The major in Global Supply Chain Management provides education and training for those interested in planning and implementing successful supply chain strategies both domestically and internationally. Students who graduate from this program will find multiple rewarding career opportunities open to them in the areas of logistics, e-commerce, purchasing, manufacturing, and international business.

Global supply chain management encompasses the planning and management of all activities involved in the flows of products, services, finances, and information from a source to a customer and integrates supply and demand across all types of organizations on an international scale.

Traditionally, mechanical engineers have been involved in fields as diverse as aeronautics, biomechanics, environmental science, manufacturing, power generation, and robotics to name just a few. However, as national and global needs change, engineers are being asked to apply their problem solving skills to address medical, business, and policy issues that confront our society.

Mechanical Engineering at A-State
The Mechanical Engineering Programs at Arkansas State University are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.  

The A-State mechanical engineering program includes a strong general education component, traditional engineering science courses, exposure to manufacturing processes and automation, and multi-course sequences to provide proficiency in Thermal and Mechanical system design.

We provide our students with a broad and well-rounded educational foundation and stress the necessity to engage in lifelong educational efforts to cope with the ever-changing landscape of science and technology. In addition, students have the opportunity to conduct research and to take courses in other disciplines such as business, mathematics, agriculture, and biological or physical sciences based on their individual career goals.

Program Educational Objectives
The Program Educational Objectives for the Mechanical Engineering Program, which pertain to program graduates 3 to 5 years after completing the program, are:

• Graduates have successfully advanced in mechanical engineering practice as evidenced by their achievements and contributions to their employers and the greater engineering community.
• Graduates have pursued graduate degrees or completed professional development activities in continuing to advance their knowledge base in mechanical engineering or related professional fields.
• Graduates have made a broader contribution to the local and national economic development by providing a mechanical engineering perspective to the challenges and opportunities of society.

The Student Outcomes for each of the Arkansas State University undergraduate engineering programs are:

The Master of Music Degree in Performance is a 30-hour program with advanced study in instrumental, vocal, or keyboard performance, piano performance and pedagogy, or instrumental or choral conducting, culminating in a graduate recital.  Instruction is provided by faculty members who are recognized as outstanding performers in a wide variety of performance areas.  The Department of Music entrance examinations in music history, music theory, and ear training assist in planning each student’s exact course of study.

The major in history with the Bachelor of Arts degree is recommended for those seeking a liberal education and aspiring to careers in history, law, theology, journalism, and library work; in local, state, and national public service; in business where a knowledge of domestic and foreign affairs is desirable; and in every area which requires an understanding of human activity.

The Masters of Science degree in Computer Science is designed to strengthen the background of the student in advanced computing concepts involving computational problem solving and complex programming environments. The program covers topics in algorithms, computation theory, and advanced programming systems.  Students are expected to be able to construct complex software solutions for a variety of problems and systems.  Electives allow the student to focus studies in several areas, including parallel and distributed systems and programming, bioinformatics, and graphics.

The B.S. degree in Sport Management is designed to prepare future professionals the needed knowledge, skills and experiences interested in careers in intercollegiate and professional athletics organizations, sport facility management (arenas/stadiums), campus and community recreation programs, sports information/public relations, sport marketing and management agencies, sport news media, and sport merchandise. This is a fast-paced, challenging, highly regarded, behind-the-scenes, managerial, professional field that requires students to have the academic background, management experience, communication abilities, and leadership qualities to be successful.

The courses in chemistry and physics are designed to prepare individuals for a variety of post-baccalaureate options. The Bachelor of Science degree is for individuals who are seeking employment as chemical or physical professionals, or who wish to continue studies toward a Masters or Ph.D. Students who are looking to pursue a further degree in law, medicine, dentistry, or pharmaceuticals will find either the B.S. degrees in chemistry or physics or the Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry as an option for entry into the appropriate post-baccalaureate program. The Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science degree will prepare students for a career in forensic science, while the Bachelor of Science Education degrees will lead to a rewarding career in secondary science education. In all of these programs, there are sufficient elective hours to allow students to customize their degrees for careers as diverse as technical librarians, salesman, writers, or translators.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders is a preprofessional degree program which provides students with academic and practical preparation considered essential for success in the Communication Disorders graduate program.

The undergraduate curriculum offers students a broad base of preparation in general education requirements, the sciences associated with communication and its disorders, anatomy and physiology, and a number of basic methods courses associated with the identification and treatment of a variety of communication disorders.
