The Master of Arts in Education program at CSUSB prepares students expand their teaching practice or to take their place in any number of educational careers. The program prepares teachers to become leaders in transformative education, a process of change by which schooling practices effectively promote learning in a variety of educational settings. Inquiry and reflective practice are the foundations of the transformative process, a process that allows teachers to evaluate current school practices and imagine teaching and learning in new ways. It is our goal to educate teachers who in turn can assist their students and colleagues to develop to their full potential and become reflective, contributing members of local, regional and global communities. The program values lifelong independent and collaborative learning that fosters leadership for change.

Students are encouraged to check that they have met the prerequisite requirements for each course in the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration in which they are planning to enroll. Prerequisite requirements listed for each course are strictly enforced.

Enrollment in 3000-, 4000- and 5000-level courses in the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration is restricted to students who have completed at least 60 semester units (i.e., have achieved junior standing). Course prerequisites are strictly enforced.

Bachelor of Arts in Political Science

The M.A. in Education, TESOL Option is a program designed to meet the needs of English teachers in classrooms with English learners both in the United States and abroad. We offer specialization in K-12 education, adult ESL, program management, and college-level English teaching. Teaching English in California and around the world is a fast-growing profession.

The program features outstanding faculty with teaching and research interests in language and literacy development, innovative language-learning methods, and technology-enhanced instruction. A unified focus on language for communicative purposes draws together contemporary theories that focus on the language learner as a whole person. Courses in teaching methods and supervised fieldwork opportunities strengthen the knowledge of classroom techniques.

Nestled in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, CSUSB is an attractive site for higher education. The 430-acre campus features 26 buildings surrounded by panoramic views of near-by mountains.

The Master of Science in Environmental Sciences is a multidisciplinary program. In addition to courses in chemistry and geology, there are opportunities for study in economics, geography, health sciences, management, and public administration. Students are admitted from numerous backgrounds, but generally with bachelor's degrees in some scientific fields such as chemistry, biology, or environmental science.  This program is designed to provide a broad background in sciences relevant to the environment and is designed so that it can potentially be completed in two years.

The culminating experience in the M.S. in Environmental Sciences is either an internship coupled with an extended project and its defense or a research thesis and defense of the thesis.

The B.A. in Spanish coursework includes the following areas: Culture, Linguistics, Peninsular Literature, and Spanish American Literature, some with interdisciplinary approaches. These areas serve students as subject matter preparation for the single-subject teaching credential, bilingual teaching, as well as students with career plans in journalism, advertising, professional writing, law, criminal justice, business, public services, healthcare-related fields, national security, diplomatic services, translation services, publishing, entertainment, and others.

The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, provides the foundation for students interested in becoming multiple-subject credentialed K-8 educators. This degree offers three concentrations: General, Integrated, and Spanish Studies. The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies Integrated Concentration provides students the opportunity to complete a Bachelor's degree and a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) accredited multiple-subject teaching credential as a part of a seamless, singular degree option. The General and Spanish Studies Concentrations are considered pre-credential degrees and allow students the flexibility to earn a stand-alone Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies that is not directly coupled with a CTC multiple-subject credential while allowing students the choice of a concentrated area of study. With these pre-credential concentrations, students earn a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and can apply for a CTC multiple-subject credential program at a later date if desired.

Courses offered in the Master of Arts in Spanish program at CSUSB provide intensive study of Spanish and Spanish American literature and civilization, as well as Spanish linguistics. Our program is designed for those students seeking to enhance their teaching skills at the secondary or community college level, as well as those who wish to continue their studies and pursue a Ph.D. degree. Students will take 46 units and a comprehensive exam based on the core courses and a reading list. The program may be completed in two years.

The study of art history equips and empowers students with acute visual literacy, tools for intellectual discovery, and deep understanding and mastery of the political and social significance of art in the global and historical context (including contemporary art and design produced in diverse cultures) through introduction and implementation of research and scholarship.

The BA in Art History prepares and qualifies students for meaningful and rewarding careers after university, in such areas as gallery and museum occupations, archives and libraries of the visual arts, non-profit arts organisations, governmental and NGO arts funding bodies, arts journalism and  communications, advertising and marketing industries, as well as preparing many students for post-graduate study in art history and related fields.

The Master of Arts in Mathematics program offers a broad education in grad­uate mathematics as well as the opportunity to develop a deep understand­ing in a specific field of mathematics by engaging in research or expository work in that field. Students in this program will take graduate-level courses in problem-solving, geometry, abstract algebra and analysis, in addition to a variety of elective courses. The program culminates with the preparation and presentation of a thesis under the direction of a faculty advisor in a topic that interests the student. In addition to these academic endeavors, we offer a highly selective Teaching Associate program.
