Nutrition is a potent modulator of the acute responses and chronic adaptations to exercise and training. The Master’s Program in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition allows students to study the interaction between nutrition and the physiology of exercise. Graduates will understand how to meet the nutritional needs of exercise, training, and conditioning to enhance human health, function, and performance as well as the underlying mechanisms at the molecular level to the whole body. The Physiology of Exercise and Sport (PEXS) Laboratory is operated by active researchers in the field and is equipped for gene and biochemical analysis as well as whole-body metabolics and athletic performance. From athletic performance to community nutrition, this degree prepares students to work with a wide variety of populations in a number of different settings using research-based curriculum, practical experiences, and original research. The Master’s Program in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition also equips students for advanced graduate work including doctoral degrees and clinical and medical training.

All students enter CSULB Dance in the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance program, providing students with a balanced course of study that prepares them for careers in dance as performers, educators, arts administrators, health and fitness specialists, and/or graduate study in dance while providing opportunities for study in specific areas of personal interest.

The Master of Music degree program provides professional concentrations in Composition, Conducting-Instrumental, Conducting-Choral, Jazz Studies, Opera Performance and Instrumental/Vocal Performance.

The management option is designed to prepare students for a successful career in managing the business enterprise. Attention is given to creating and maintaining an effective and efficient organization in the face of a challenging dynamic global environment. The philosophical, theoretical, and practical foundations of management will be considered in the context of values and ethics. Highly qualified and dedicated faculty deliver courses on various aspects of management theory and practice, preparing students for professional careers in middle and upper management.

The Master of Public Administration program offers options in health administration and criminal justice. The mission of the Master of Public Administration program is to develop and enhance the theoretical and practical understanding, knowledge, and skills of current and future managers in public service with particular emphasis on the North State region. A major feature of this program is administration in a nonmetropolitan setting.

The programs in chemistry and biochemistry at the bachelor’s degree level are planned to develop background in a specific science, to serve as preparation for graduate work in chemistry or biochemistry, and to provide a foundation for those students seeking careers in the chemical sciences, teaching, law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and other health?related professions, and in industrial and governmental scientific occupations.

This new degree program is aimed at pre-professional students, who will be able to use many professional school pre-requisites to fulfill their elective unit requirements

Photography emphasizes fine art photography and its central position in contemporary art practice. The program is also invested in both traditional and digital photographic applications. Course offerings include such topics as advanced black-and-white printing, color photography, digital photography, studio practices, a theory and criticism seminar, and experimental approaches.

The M.F.A. degree's 60-unit plan of study emphasizes choreographic exploration and presentation in addition to preparing students for teaching careers in higher education. The program provides M.F.A. candidates with theoretical and practice-based study, teaching opportunities, production skills, and a thesis project focusing on the creation of original choreography. CSULB Dance has chosen to keep the M.F.A. degree small and selective in order to provide students with ready resources and mentorship. We seek candidates whose experiences include professional-level investigation and choreography in dance beyond the baccalaureate level. Practitioners of any movement/dance genre are encouraged to apply to the M.F.A. in Dance degree program.

Housed in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at California State Univeristy Long Beach (CSULB) and graduated its first cohort in 1988, the undergraduate Health Care Administration (BS-HCA) program has been a full certified member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) since 1996. Such certification demonstrates program excellence through a process of external peer review in which programs are examined to determine the quality of the curriculum, infrastructure, and outcomes.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration (BS-HCA) curriculum consists of 120 units of course work. The undergraduate program admits freshmen and transfer students with a significant number of community college credits. Interested students must first apply to the CSULB for admission and are encouraged to contact the CHHS advisors for advising before enrolling in courses.

Reflecting our college’s philosophy, the French and Francophone Studies Program is designed to develop cross-cultural awareness and to foster international understanding in a global world, an imperative need for our student body which is increasingly multi-lingual and multi-national, and comes from a variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Our program adds an exciting new dimension to the traditional curriculum by incorporating interdisciplinary and multi-media courses on the French and Francophone worlds. Our faculty is committed to excellence in teaching, as well as accommodating students’ needs, areas of interest and expanding their knowledge in the field. A degree in French places the world of international communication and culture at your fingertips. As one of the foremost languages of global diplomacy, international relations and business, and scholarship, a degree in French leads to careers in a number of exciting fields. It is also the preferred language for academic pursuit in the social sciences and critical studies. The Francophone world only begins in France, stretching far beyond the Champs-Elysées into Africa, Quebec, the Caribbean, and Tahiti. Additionally, a double major or a minor in French enhances any other degree program, making the student doubly marketable upon graduation. They pursue professions in teaching, business, travel, and diplomacy, to name only a few, continue their studies within our own M.A. program or pursue doctoral programs at Ph.D. granting institutions.
