The Option in English Education is designed for prospective secondary English teachers and satisfies the state-mandated requirement in subject matter competence for the Single Subject Teaching Credential. This 55-unit option combines a 43-unit core with a specified emphasis in one of five areas. All five areas of emphasis require that students complete the 43-unit core requirements specified here and take the additional 12 units of breadth and perspective as indicated below. In order to achieve subject matter competency, English Education majorsmust earn grades of ‘C’ or better in all of their content area coursework. English Education emphases should not be confused with BA options or majors in English or other departments, which have significantly different requirements.

Asian Studies is an interdisciplinary program that offers three concentrations: Asia Area Studies; Asia and Business; Asia and Globalization. All of these concentrations share a common core. Beyond the common core requirements, students select elective courses from one of the three concentrations to complete their 39 unit requirement for the major. Regular consultation with an advisor is highly recommended. Because of the importance of statistics to this discipline, students are advised to include STAT 108 among their GE courses. A “C” grade in all required and elective classes in the major is required for continuation of the program. It is also suggested that students take AST 320 or AST 336 for their required Upper Division WI Capstone course. This option is available in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. It was introduced in response to a certification process developed by the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). NCFR is the leading national organization for professionals concerned with promoting and enhancing the quality of family life. NCFR sponsors the only national program to certify family life educators.

This degree is designed to prepare graduates for a variety of careers in the biomedical engineering field. The program builds upon a strong base of biology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering science to develop a clinically oriented biomedical engineer to serve medical and industrial needs. It includes courses and laboratories in biomedical engineering, physiology and biology. Elective units are available in the senior year to explore individual areas of interest.

Graduates of HCA master’s degree programs will achieve competencies in the areas of (1) communications and relationship management, (2) leadership, (3) professionalism, (4) knowledge of health care environment, and (5) business skills and knowledge. These competencies are the main domains of the model based on the American College of Health Care Executives’ (ACHE) Competency Assessment Tool and Healthcare Leadership Alliance’s (HLA) Competency Directory.

The Program’s curriculum was designed, and has been revised over the years, to provide students with the health care management knowledge and skills necessary to meet the changing needs of the health care industry and to conform to academic accreditation criteria. HCA follows a generalist approach in the design of its program and admits students with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

The M.F.A. degree's 60-unit plan of study emphasizes choreographic exploration and presentation in addition to preparing students for teaching careers in higher education. The program provides M.F.A. candidates with theoretical and practice-based study, teaching opportunities, production skills, and a thesis project focusing on the creation of original choreography. CSULB Dance has chosen to keep the M.F.A. degree small and selective in order to provide students with ready resources and mentorship. We seek candidates whose experiences include professional-level investigation and choreography in dance beyond the baccalaureate level. Practitioners of any movement/dance genre are encouraged to apply to the M.F.A. in Dance degree program.

Film and Electronic Arts is an innovative program that emphasizes both theory and practice. Focusing on the integration of moving images, culture, and technology, the curriculum is designed to develop storytelling and production skills while providing a foundational education in the arts and humanities. Media history, theory, and aesthetics are taught as an integral part of production practices.

The Master of Science in Marketing Analytics program provides students with advanced and highly demanded training in digital marketing tools, marketing research and analytical skills, and other relevant quantitative marketing skills ranging from customer/sales big data analysis, digital marketing management, sales force management strategies, customer relationship management (CRM), new product development, and brand management.

The Bachelor of Arts in Design (BA) is comprised of 120 semester units and is structured for students who seek a broad understanding and application of design with an opportunity to focus in a specific area of study. The purpose of this degree is to provide a forward-thinking liberal arts degree where students will take a variety of core courses in design theory, art and design history, and either object or space oriented design. In addition to receiving a foundation of core design courses focused on either object or spaced oriented design, the curriculum enables students to focus in a specific area of study including display and exhibition, environmental communication design, furniture design, computer modeling, lighting design, and design history. The degree is also advantageous to design students who would like a degree in an alternative design area, or who wish to pursue study in a graduate program.

The Master of Science in Sustainability Management and Policy (MSSMP) is designed to provide students with the advanced and highly sought-after expertise needed in the field of sustainability management. The program provides training designed to prepare students to apply the concepts of sustainability within an organization and the regulatory environment by engaging them in advanced and in- demand training. This program will provide a transdisciplinary graduate degree that will empower students with technical, managerial, and problem-solving skills to guide the decision-making process in the context of sustainability. The curriculum design objective is to offer a balance between theory and application by illustrating the holistic dynamics of social, economic, environmental, business, and technical systems.
