The M.S. in Science Education is designed primarily for credentialed K-12 teachers interested in deepening their understanding of science, education, and the teaching and learning of science. The program includes a blend of courses from the Science Education department, the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and the College of Education. The program introduces candidates to Science Education as a field of study, with its own journals, issues, and research areas.

The option in Informal Science Education is designed for museum, aquaria, outdoor, and environmental educators who want to further their educational studies with a focus on learning and teaching science in non-classroom settings.

The Finance option provides an understanding of the role of finance in the corporate and international environment and an understanding of investments at both the corporate and personal level. This option provides an understanding of the role of finance in a business context, including the development of a comprehension of business ethics.

Finance Consists of three interrelated areas:

• Financial Management: which involves the actual financial management of a firm as well as the theory of finance applicable to all other areas of finance;
• Investments: which focuses on the decision of investors as they choose investment securities and manage their investment portfolios;
• Money & Capital Markets: which deals with security markets and financial institutions.

Geography focuses on the spatial organization of human and physical landscapes, the interactions between human society and the physical environment, as well as on the meanings that people bring to their place in the world. Geography sits at the nexus of the social and physical sciences, drawing from a range of theoretical and methodological approaches for understanding the world around us.

The objectives of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Program are to produce engineers who can innovate and advance in their chosen careers in industry, academia, and public institutions while making creative contributions to the field of electrical engineering.

The bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is designed to prepare graduates for responsible engineering positions in design, development, research, applications, and operation in the fields of communications, control systems, robotics, digital signal processing systems, electromagnetics, digital and analog electronic circuits, physical electronics, computer-aided design and power systems. The curriculum is built around a strong basic core of mathematics, physics and engineering science. This is followed by intermediate courses in electrical engineering topics and finally a senior elective sequence including a senior design seminar and terminating in a capstone design course.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design is comprised of 132 semester units. The program provides a framework within which students can fully immerse themselves in a critical examination of then social, cultural, and environmental awareness while giving visual form to their investigations. It supports opportunities for employment in the practice of Interior Design; in addition it helps prepare those who are interested in continuing on with a Masters degree or wish to pursue teaching. A diverse curriculum of lecture and studio courses develops the student's cognitive ability to analyze design challenges of a complex nature. Issues of graphic communication, project analysis, programming, space planning, design and selection of interior components are presented in a logical sequence. Instruction emphasizes the three-dimensional possibilities of sculpting interior space, from conceptual ideas. The courses include lectures, demonstrations, and critiques of works-in-progress. Professional designers and educators from outside the department visit regularly to lecture and review student projects.

Computers are one of the essential modern tools used to solve a physical problem or simulate or model a real system. A student choosing Computational Physics will acquire practical skills on how to solve differential and integral equations how to model a system and write a program that allows calculating quantities that can be compared with experimental data or predict the outcome of an experiment. The skills are universal in the sense that they may be applied to any field of Physics.

The Master of Science in Chemical Engineering degree program at CSULB requires completion of 30 units of graduate courses, as specified below. Each student must satisfy all the requirements of the University, College, and Department. The MSChE program aims at educating and training multidisciplinary professionals in order to provide them with the needed expertise for advanced technical activities in Chemical Engineering and any relevant areas of engineering and sciences.

This option is available in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. It was introduced in response to a certification process developed by the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). NCFR is the leading national organization for professionals concerned with promoting and enhancing the quality of family life. NCFR sponsors the only national program to certify family life educators.

The Department of English at CSULB has over 40 tenure-track, tenured, and emeritus faculty whose research and teaching interests cover the range of periods, authors, and genres in British and American literature; focus on a variety of critical and theoretical approaches; and explore diverse topics in the study of reading and writing in English.Our graduate seminars are small classes that encourage students to examine and explore the topic intensively, and they are designed to broaden and deepen students’ understanding of the intellectual, cultural, rhetorical, and aesthetic traditions of literature and writing in English.

The MA program in English is designed to broaden students’ knowledge and understanding of the literary and rhetorical traditions of writing in English, as well as to provide the opportunity for intensive study in one or more specialized area(s) of literature or rhetoric and composition. The MA program in English emphasizes close reading and critical analysis by developing students’ abilities to situate texts within their larger aesthetic, historical, and professional contexts, conduct independent research, and formulate original arguments in oral presentations and writing.

The Mission of the Construction Management program is to educate and prepare students to succeed in the construction management profession by providing them with essential technical, managerial and communication skills and tools which will enable them to perform current and future construction management tasks and to promote the need for life-long learning.
