The Masters of Science in Gerontology Program provides a flexible interdisciplinary curriculum that gives new and seasoned professionals the competencies necessary for success in the field of aging. It provides experiential as well as didactic graduate education and professional training in gerontology for individuals planning to become professionals in public and private agencies. It provides field experiences to enhance understanding of concepts, themes, and skills related to aging at various life stages, within different gender and racial/ethnic groups and among people with various abilities. Students gain knowledge and skills necessary to plan, develop and implement innovative programs to meet the needs of the growing aging population locally, state-wide, nationally, and internationally. Students are supported in exploring aging-related professional values and ethics.

This option is designed primarily for those interested in careers that are related to zoology, ecology, and botany. It is particularly appropriate for students who wish to attend veterinary or graduate school, and for those seeking employment in environmental consulting firms, and fish and wildlife agencies. This option requires approximately 80-83 units in the major, of which 43-46 units are in lower division and 37 units are in upper division.

This degree is available to qualified students preparing for professional careers in research, education, industry, consulting, government, and health professions. Our Biology M.S. degrees are appropriate choices for students seeking to increase their competitiveness for further studies at the doctoral level and professional schools. A core mission of our program is to provide high-quality graduate training in marine biology research. Students interested in marine biology-related topics enter the Master of Science in Biology program and work directly with marine biology faculty to design and carry out basic and applied research projects. Graduate work in marine biology at CSU Long Beach provides students with solid training in experimental design, field and laboratory research, statistical analysis, and science communication. These skills permit our graduates to pursue a wide diversity of science-related careers, including teaching at the community college level, work in biological consulting firms, or positions in regional, state, or federal resource management agencies. Many of our graduates also continue their studies in Ph.D. programs, opening up even more career opportunities.

The Department of Geological Sciences is a student-centered program that provides undergraduate students with substantial laboratory- and field-based instruction and opportunities to participate in research. Graduate students investigate a considerable range and variety of research topics for their theses. Our program has a proud tradition with a continuing commitment in preparing our students for professional careers or further post-graduate education.

Our program is based solidly in fundamental geological skills with an emphasis in field experiences. We are located 10 minutes from the beach, one hour from the mountains and the San Andreas Fault, and two hours from the desert!

Geologists are scientific detectives who uncover the past, investigate the present and predict the future of Earth. For example, geologists determine where it is safe to live, where to find essential resources, how to deal with pollution and environmental changes, and how to remediate the damage to Earth. Students who enjoy working and recreating outdoors and are curious about how the world around them works will find this field a rewarding area of study.

The MSCE Transportation Engineering/ Geotechnical Engineering specialization requires completion of 30 units of graduate courses, as specified below. Each student's program must satisfy all requirements of the university, college, and department, and contain the equivalent of 10 or more units of design, as determined by the department's graduate coordinator. During the first two weeks of the first semester as a CSULB graduate student, the student should make an appointment to meet with the graduate coordinator, who will assign him/her to an area advisor.

This 18-month program includes 12 months in residence, followed by a carefully placed internship with courses taken in residence or online. Graduates become prepared for careers in areas such as International Development & Relief, Migration Advocacy, International Non-Profit Management, International Business, and Trade Policy.

The MAIA program identifies and develops the professional skills necessary for a successful international career in the public, private, or nonprofit sectors—both at home and abroad. The core elements of the program include methodological skills, functional competence, and foreign language knowledge with a multidisciplinary approach. The curriculum applies prevalent theory to real-world situations, while developing tools for project development and problem resolution.

The Fitness option is designed for students interested in careers in the fitness industry, e.g. fitness director, manager, program specialist, coordinator, strength and conditioning coach, personal trainer, or group instructor in corporate, commercial, YMCA, or other public or private facilities.
