Master of Music with Concentration in Music, Conducting - Instrumental

This program requires a selection of fundamental courses in algebra, statistics, and analysis be taken. It is the most flexible program, in which the greatest number of electives may be chosen. Elective upper division mathematics courses are available which meet the needs of students preparing careers in industry and government, secondary teaching, and graduate study. Students who do not wish to complete the requirements for a declared option in applied mathematics or statistics may wish to elect courses in one or both of these areas as part of this degree program.

Students majoring in the B.S. in Mathematics (all options) who would like an enriched academic program that includes a thesis may complete the Honors in the Major program described here.

May also complete General Honors through the University Honors Program, in which case the thesis requirement may be met through the Honors in the Major.

This option emphasizes mathematics frequently used in applications. The student may choose one of two suboptions: the first is aimed at applications in science and engineering, the second at applications in economics and management. Students are prepared for careers in industry, business, and government and for graduate study in applied mathematics.

The mission of the graduate program in Computer engineering and Computer Science at CSULB is to provide a high-quality educational experience and the technical specialization required to become successful leaders in industry. The program also prepares the students to pursue advanced degrees if they so desire. The graduate program involves advanced courses in analysis and design in computer software and hardware. The students may choose to do a thesis or take a comprehensive examination as the culmination of their program.

The Art History program provides the necessary research skills and information to enter the professional fields of teaching, museum work, art gallery management, art consultancy, arts management, and art writing. The diverse curriculum offers specialty courses on both Western and non-Western (i.e. Asian, African, Native North American, Pre-Columbian, etc.) societies. Art historical methodologies are included in courses in historiography, art theory, art criticism, art and anthropology, and museology.

Typical tasks and responsibilities undertaken by students in the curriculum for this program would not fall within one of the traditional specialties in engineering, e.g. aerospace, chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, or computer science and engineering. The student may pursue an interdisciplinary program, approved by a graduate advisor, by selecting courses from the various departments of engineering. The Master of Music degree program provides professional concentrations in Composition, Conducting-Instrumental, Conducting-Choral, Jazz Studies, Opera Performance and Instrumental/Vocal Performance.

The Master of Science in Supply Chain Management program is designed to provide its students with advanced and highly demanded training in modern supply chain management practices, analysis methods, technology applications, strategy development, and other relevant skills that will advance their career prospects and prepare them for lifelong learning in a global supply chain environment. The rigorous curriculum will equip its graduates with advanced knowledge and skills needed to identify, analyze, and resolve complex supply chain challenges faced by globalscale businesses. This is accomplished through a unique combination of quantitative, technical, operational, strategic, and behavioral preparation.

Fast Track Master of Science in Supply Chain Management

The Fast Track Master of Science in Supply Chain Management (MSSCM) program is available to promising students seeking a career in supply chain management. CSULB undergraduate supply chain management students may apply to the Fast Track MSSCM program as undergraduates. Students are eligible for the Fast Track MSSCM if they maintain a 3.0 Overall and Upper Division Major GPA. Students deemed eligible for the Fast Track MSSCM program may waive the GMAT/GRE test and additional application requirement. Please inquire with the Graduate Business Office for more information.

The Master’s Program in Exercise Science provides an expansive study of the physiology, biomechanics, and motor control of exercise and physical activity. Students can study the mechanics, responses, and adaptations to training that relate to promoting health, preventing disease, and enhancing performance. Graduates will understand how exercise and conditioning optimize human function and capacity through current research-based curriculum, practical experiences, and original research. Fully equipped laboratories include the Physiology of Exercise and Sport (PEXS) Lab, the Motor Control Lab, and the Movement Science Lab (MSL), all of which specialize in a wide range of tasks. The Masters in Exercise Science prepares graduates for competitive fields in exercise & fitness, strength & conditioning, health & wellness, and clinical settings. This program also equips students for advanced graduate work including doctoral degrees and clinical/medical training.

The Africana Studies major is designed to provide students with a rich intellectual experience through the critical and systematic study of the life, thought and practice of African peoples, Continental and Diasporan, in their current and historical dimensions. Africana Studies seeks to critically examine and understand the Africana initiative and experience from an Afrocentric or African-centered perspective, i.e., from a position internal to the culture of the people studied, while retaining a respect for and openness to the multicultural character and instructive value of the total human experience.
