The Sport Psychology and Leadership option provides rigorous training and exposure to the mental aspects of movement and sport and requires 120 units of study. This option has two concentrations – one in Sport Psychology and one in Leadership. The course work for both concentrations is the same except for the activity courses and the elective courses. The option is designed for students interested in careers in: 1) sport psychology; and 2) coaching outside the public school system (K-12), e.g., sport management/leadership; coaching professional athletes, coaching youth-sport athletes, and coaching in sport academies. Many students also consider pursuing graduate education.

The Bachelor of Arts program in Chinese Studies at CSULB is designed to provide students with linguistic and cultural preparation, supported by international perspectives and understanding of humanities for personal, socio-political, and literary-intellectual development, as well as for economic self-sufficiency in the ever-intertwining world of a global economy. The degree program is a major intended to educate and produce graduates who will have communicative proficiency, critical thinking skills, socio-cultural understanding, and literary sensibility for intercultural communication. The degree program will also provide students with opportunity and preparation to pursue a career involving the Pacific Rim nations, and go on to graduate, or on to professional programs in fields such as Art, International Affairs, Business Administration, History, Literature, Law, Journalism, Public Administration, or Education.

The Drawing and Painting program encourages a strong foundation in the traditions of life drawing and offers focuses on both figurative and non-figurative approaches to the medium. Courses are designed to contextualize the fundamentals, introduce critical thinking, and foster independence.

Students in this program write works for the full range of traditional acoustic instruments, from solo works to ones for large orchestra, as well as for various electronic resources, working constantly to refine their own compositional voice under the guidance of the composition faculty. The program offers many courses for advanced study, with recent offerings including seminars focused on computer notation, Max/MSP/Jitter, art song composition, Schenkerian theory, and composition informed by music outside of the classical tradition (including influences from rock, jazz, and non-Western traditions). Students in the program have written works for readings and workshops by the BCCM Symphony Orchestra, the BCCM Wind Symphony, Kronos Quartet, the Friction String Quartet, and many other resident and guest ensembles.

The School Health Option is designed for persons who wish to become health science teachers in California middle and high schools. The program is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and meets subject matter competence requirements for the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Health Science. Prospective students should consult the department’s Health Science Single Subject Advisor early to plan their program.

This option establishes that marketing is largely a social process, emphasizing that enterprises meet the needs of individuals or segments of society. The function of marketing is to determine those needs, provide the most effective means of informing actual and potential customers of the availability of services and goods, and deliver such services and goods.

Student Development in Higher Education (SDHE) is a unique field of professional practice in U.S. higher education. NCFR is the leading national organization for professionals concerned with promoting and enhancing the quality of family life. NCFR sponsors the only national program to certify family life educators.

The Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing is the recognized terminal degree which offers the minimum professional training deemed necessary by the major schools in the United States for university and college teaching and for positions in the publishing industry.
