The Master of Science in Applied Statistics program trains students to utilize statistical methods to draw valid and meaningful inferences from data. Using a variety of statistical software (SAS, SPSS, Minitab, R), graduates are expected to analyze real-world data appropriately and communicate their findings effectively. The degree is granted to students who complete 30 units of course work and either pass two comprehensive examinations or fulfill the thesis/project requirement. Typically, the degree is obtained in four semesters.

Graphic Design incorporates a broad approach to the transmission of ideas, information, and subjective impressions through the use of print, film, video, and computer media. The program prepares students for professional careers in design studios, advertising agencies, corporate design departments, motion graphics firms, web design companies, and free-lance consulting.

The mission of the civil engineering graduate program at CSULB is to provide a high-quality educational experience and the technical specialization required to become successful leaders in industry and the society, to engage students in innovative practical research and encourage them to pursue advanced degrees and lifelong learning.

The objectives of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Program are to produce engineers who can innovate and advance in their chosen careers in industry, academia, and public institutions while making creative contributions to the field of electrical engineering.

Our graduates:

The bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is designed to prepare graduates for responsible engineering positions in design, development, research, applications, and operation in the fields of communications, control systems, robotics, digital signal processing systems, electromagnetics, digital and analog electronic circuits, physical electronics, computer-aided design and power systems. The curriculum is built around a strong basic core of mathematics, physics and engineering science. This is followed by intermediate courses in electrical engineering topics and finally a senior elective sequence including a senior design seminar and terminating in a capstone design course.

Microbiology is the study of microorganisms and their interactions with humans, other organisms, and the environment. This degree is appropriate for those contemplating graduate work in microbiology or, with the inclusion of appropriate classes, may be utilized by pre-professional students.

The Religious Studies M.A. at CSULB is the only M.A. in Religious Studies offered in the entire CSU system. That make it the least expensive Religious Studies M.A. in the entire state of California. It is a “stand-alone” M.A. program–one of about fifteen in the U.S. –which means that it is not an afterthought or consolation prize in some other degree program. We are going to give you personal attention that prepares you for the next level. An M.A. from CSULB can do what the gravitational field of Mars can do for a space probe on the way to Pluto. You can use our gravitational field to sling you into orbit for a better graduate program (if you want a Ph.D. or some other advanced degree) or career.

Why is this so? First of all our graduated M.A.s have gone on to good Ph.D. programs–@ Heildelberg, Edinburgh, University of California, etc. You have a chance to polish your writing skills and learn languages that make you more attractive to such schools.Good schools want you to have tackled research and target languages. Second, you learn how to learn things fast, well, and critically. In the world of knowledge-based economies, you have the basic skills for any knowledge-based career. You can discern quickly what is garbage, what is fact-based, and what is possible. Our graduates have become entrepreneurs, writers, social activists, and religious leaders.They innovate and adapt.

Third, we take your interest in Religion seriously and know that you want to grow as a person while you are learning. That means, whatever your religious position–from Atheist to Zoroastrian, Christian, Muslim, or Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, or Sikh, Neo-pagan or “None,” Fundamentalist or Progressive–you are welcome here. This means that you will meet people with religious positions that are different from your own and have conversations that you could not have imagined in a parochial program.

The Printmaking program incorporates a number of historical media including etching, lithography, relief printing, monotype, and screen printing while expanding upon emerging photographic and digital processes. Emphasis is placed on both unique/individual images and the multiple.

Department of Communication Studies provides students with a liberal arts education in communication arts and sciences with specialized training in communication skills and practices at the baccalaureate and graduate levels. Each student is required to consult with the department undergraduate or graduate advisor as appropriate for advisement.

The B.A. in Linguistics, Option in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages is a program for students who are interested in TESOL. The program provides a broad foundation in linguistic theory related to sound and grammar systems, typology, language acquisition, and pedagogy. The program aims to integrate theory and practice, and help students develop a range of practical skills for teaching in a second language classroom.

This Option is suitable for students interested in teaching English abroad, teaching locally in non-public-school settings, or continuing to a Master’s or Graduate Certificate in TESOL. The Option is not a credential program for public school teaching, but some prerequisite work for a teaching credential may be completed as part of the major.

This degree is designed to prepare graduates for a variety of careers in the biomedical engineering field. The program builds upon a strong base of biology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering science to develop a clinically oriented biomedical engineer to serve medical and industrial needs. It includes courses and laboratories in biomedical engineering, physiology and biology. Elective units are available in the senior year to explore individual areas of interest.
