The study of Classics is a balanced investigation into the societies of ancient Greece and Rome, two of the most enduring and influential societies in the western world. It also explores their interactions with people and cultures throughout the Mediterranean and its environs, including Europe, North Africa, and the Near and Middle East. Classics majors study the perplexing problems that continue to confront society and explore the answers to questions such as: how does one cope with human mortality, what is the nature of human responsibility and justice, what is the relationship between one's individual privileges and one's public obligations, how should a society be governed and how does a society's literature and art reflect and shape the beliefs, desires, and fears of its people.

In addition to their studies, our students maintain the highest standards in the areas of musicianship, pedagogy, and professionalism and work consistently with an extensive network of cooperating teachers in public school music settings (band, choir, orchestra, and general music) for field experiences that begin during the very first semester of the freshman year.

The M.F.A. in Media Arts and Technology is a multidisciplinary program of study that blends media arts, design, creative expression and technology to enhance communication and user experiences across all industries and disciplines. It provides opportunity for aspiring storytellers, designers, filmmakers, photographers, artists and technologists to exercise creativity through technology. The M.F.A. is 42 credit hours. Students choose one of the program tracks: 1) Creative and Strategic Media, 2) Interactive Design, 3) Photography and Film.

Developing student creative competence and design thinking skills is central to our teaching philosophy. In each program track, project-oriented classes focus on creative and designed projects such as literary works, films and documentaries, photography exhibits, interactive apps and websites, digital user experiences (UX), and public relations and advertising campaigns. 

Our program is built on the premise that students learn science best by enjoying the successes and failures of research, so we encourage students to begin research as soon as possible and, indeed, students should approach faculty members to investigate beginning research as early as their freshman year. Students interested in beginning research should browse faculty research interests on the web and make an appointment with individual faculty members to discuss their research. Research opportunities are available for academic credit or on a volunteer basis, and occur throughout the year. Occasionally, funding may be available through an individual faculty member’s grant.

Additionally, the Department offers a selection of courses for non-science majors carefully designed to meet University Core science requirements, in a range of topics from the traditional to the fun-filled and even the exotic.

Our faculty are dedicated teacher-scholars who enjoy helping students experience the thrill of learning about nature first-hand. The Department pursues a vigorous research program in experimental condensed matter, experimental atomic physics and experimental nuclear physics, all areas open to undergraduate involvement.

Liberal Arts students may design a Liberal Arts major if they prefer not to choose a formal major course of study offered in a traditional discipline. A self-designed major allows for the election of a concentration in either the humanities or social sciences, or it may be built around a theme that brings together courses in both the humanities and social sciences.

In this program you will learn how to evaluate the cyber-security needs of an organisation, how to assess and develop risk management policies in order to protect well the confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of an organisation's information and assets, how to support and secure information and assets as needed to support an organisation's mission, how to research, learn, and apply new cyber-security technology in order to keep skills current and how to apply these skills in a professional manner, including documenting their work, communicating clearly and appropriately, and following appropriate ethical and professional standards of conduct.
