The interdisciplinary Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) major is a unique program which prepares students for leadership in many areas of public service and private enterprise.

About the Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) Major

PPE is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program that combines studies in political science, philosophy, and economics.  Modeled after a program at Oxford University, PPE core classes study human values, cultural institutions, and economics in order to develop multiperspectival solutions to pressing social problems. PPE students will also choose an area of emphasis from the following tracks: Applied Economics, Financial Economics, International Affairs, Law, Philosophy, Public Administration, and Social Enterprise.

The Law track will prepare you for success in law school and a variety of careers in law and society.

School districts have long sought after SPU-educated teachers for both their competence and character. Many graduates have gone on to blaze new trails in the education realm, and even earn Washington state’s Teacher of the Year award, an honour given to only one outstanding Washington teacher annually. The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program was created to integrate teacher certification with a master's degree in a two-year program for working professionals. Among other benefits, graduates of the program earn their Washington Residency Teacher Certificate, earn higher placement on the salary schedule, and become equipped to guide students of all backgrounds and abilities to achieve excellence. In addition, SPU’s School of Education offers one-year alternative route teaching programs, including AMAT and AMTMS.

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Psychology majors are rigorous yet flexible programs designed to meet the American Psychological Association Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology major while also fulfilling SPU’s mission to provide students with a transformative and holistic experience grounded in Christian faith.

As such, these programs prepare you with extensive knowledge of the field; scientific and critical thinking skills; an awareness of diversity, ethics in practice, and social responsibility; effective oral and written communication skills; and professional-level training and experiences (e.g., research and internship opportunities) for both careers and graduate school in psychology.

Psychology (BS)

The BS in Psychology is designed for students with a broad range of career and graduate school interests such as, but not limited to, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work, school counseling, and industrial and organizational psychology.

Sports Psychology: For students interested in working with athletes or teams, this track focuses on sports psychology; it is designed for students hoping to pursue a job or graduate work in a related area.

Chemistry forms a foundation for the study of a wide variety of scientific disciplines. It is concerned primarily with matter, energy, and their interactions. Chemists are both creators and problem-solvers who do everything from create new substances to analyze criminal evidence. They are at the forefront of efforts to make sure that technology serves people, rather than the reverse. And at Seattle Pacific University, chemists and chemistry are informed and influenced by a Christian worldview.

This major is designed to make you a canny navigator of our media-saturated environment. In addition to probing the historical origins of our present visual climate, you will investigate the latest trends in critical theory and develop strong research and writing skills. The Art History program at SPU has a modern and contemporary focus, and encourages hands-on engagement with mounting, curating, and reviewing gallery shows. The philosophical cornerstone of our curriculum is our belief in a common humanity; we look for wisdom in even the most distant past and cultivate sympathy with the strange and unfamiliar. An optional biennial study-abroad program to Rome, Italy, will help you both absorb and critique the foundations of Western culture.

Mechanical engineers apply hands-on physics to model, analyse, and design mechanical and energy systems such as automobiles, aircraft, ships, heating and cooling systems, prosthetics, robots, household appliances, or industrial equipment and machinery.

What’s different? You'll get individual attention from your professors in rigorous, small classes. This degree can be completed in four years at SPU. You'll learn to think critically and solve quandaries through multiple, extended hands-on projects.

Accredited? We are pursuing accreditation through the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission for the Mechanical Engineering major like we have already achieved for our other engineering majors.

This major leads to a bachelor of science degree.

The degree requirements are identical to the General Engineering/Mechanical Engineering concentration.

Given the sizeable Spanish-speaking population in our region and the nation as a whole, Spanish is an ideal language for you to learn at Seattle Pacific University.

Spanish is, after Chinese, the most common first language in the world. And because more than 35 million Spanish speakers live in the United States, a growing number of employers prefer to hire individuals who can effectively communicate in Spanish. Likewise, communicating in Spanish can benefit you when serving in many mission organizations and nonprofits.

Beyond the clear economic benefits, learning Spanish can broaden your cultural horizons, sharpen your critical-thinking skills, and increase your creativity. Spanish is even one of the official languages of the United Nations.

When you receive a bachelor of science in Physiology at SPU, you will have gained a solid foundation in understanding how living systems work. You will also receive a strong foundation for a future career in medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and other health-related and applied biology field. Some students pursue graduate education in physiology.

About the Physiology Major

When you major in Physiology you will study how the human body, including its cells and tissues, works. You will learn about the biological science that gives us the basis for the knowledge we need to understand how the components of our bodies work together.

The Christians Traditions concentration of the MA-THEO Degree is designed to expand your knowledge of the Church’s global heritage from the era of the New Testament to the present. You will discover the amazing breadth and depth of God’s redemptive work through time and throughout the world, as well as the ways in which the people of God have sometimes failed to live up to Jesus’ command to love one another
