The Business Administration major in the School of Business, Government, and Economics at SPU allows you to develop essential business skills in a uniquely Christian environment that emphasizes values, ethics, and an understanding of business as a means to serve.

Business Administration Major
The Business Administration major provides you with a broad-based education in the fundamental theories, principles, and practices of modern business. You will learn standards of professional and ethical behavior, along with the technical expertise and leadership attributes necessary to attain a variety of positions in business.

As part of the Business Administration major, students also gain vital industry experience by participating in our SBGE internship program. Our students have held internships at leading local businesses and companies such as Starbucks, Boeing, Microsoft, the Seattle Mariners, and Merrill Lynch.

With an International Business concentration, you participate in a study abroad program with SPU faculty and take specialized courses at a foreign university.

If you’re preparing for a future in teaching, medicine, law, or the ministry — or if you seek personal enrichment — you’ll want to consider a major or minor in Classics.

Whether you major, minor, or take courses as part of your electives, studying the Classics at Seattle Pacific University allows you to develop the analytical skills needed to understand ancient languages and engage in disciplines such as linguistics or textual criticism. You will also discover how Classics can add depth to disciplines such as history, philosophy, and art criticism.

With half the words in English vocabulary made up of Latin or Greek words and roots, majoring or minoring in Classics, or minoring in Latin, gives you a great preparation for any of the liberal arts. And because Latin provides the root words for science vocabularies, you will also understand science and math terminology in a new way — as well as gain personal satisfaction.

The interdisciplinary Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) major is a unique program which prepares students for leadership in many areas of public service and private enterprise.

Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) Major

PPE is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program that combines studies in political science, philosophy, and economics.  Modeled after a program at Oxford University, PPE core classes study human values, cultural institutions, and economics in order to develop multiperspectival solutions to pressing social problems. PPE students will also choose an area of emphasis from the following tracks: Applied Economics, Financial Economics, International Affairs, Law, Philosophy, Public Administration, and Social Enterprise.

The Applied Economics track focuses on important issues such as environmental and health economics. 

The Master of Arts in Theology degree program focuses on the classical theological disciplines of Scripture, Church history, theology, and ethics. The Christian Ministry concentration is designed for students who have a personal interest in theological study, are engaged in congregational or parachurch ministries, or are considering further advanced academic study in theology. The Christian Ministry concentration is a highly malleable, self-designed degree.

f you are preparing for leadership in a church or denomination — including various non-ordained ministries in congregational settings, parachurches, and Christian organizations that do not require a Master of Divinity degree — the Christian Ministry concentration is intended for you.

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Psychology majors are rigorous yet flexible programs designed to meet the American Psychological Association Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology major while also fulfilling SPU’s mission to provide students with a transformative and holistic experience grounded in Christian faith.

As such, these programs prepare you with extensive knowledge of the field; scientific and critical thinking skills; an awareness of diversity, ethics in practice, and social responsibility; effective oral and written communication skills; and professional-level training and experiences (e.g., research and internship opportunities) for both careers and graduate school in psychology.

Psychology (BS)

The BS in Psychology is designed for students with a broad range of career and graduate school interests such as, but not limited to, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work, school counseling, and industrial and organizational psychology.

Clinical Counseling Psychology: For students interested in working within a therapeutic context, this track focuses information and experiences relevant to clinical psychology, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, as well as related graduate programs or jobs providing or researching the effectiveness of therapy or counseling.

As a Cellular and Molecular Biology major at SPU, you can expect to study molecular structures and processes of cellular life and their roles in the function, reproduction, and development of living organisms. In this major, you will find out more about God's creation through the complexities of cellular and molecular biology.

When you major in Exercise Science at SPU, you build a strong foundation to serve in a variety of fields in which you can promote healthy lifestyles for people of all ages. Whether you plan to become a strength and conditioning trainer, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, or any other type of health care or fitness professional, an Exercise Science degree from Seattle Pacific gives you the skills and knowledge base you need.

 As an SPU Exercise Science major, you examine the health and fitness benefits of physical activity and exercise using a science-based approach. This approach combines:

• Classroom learning, including chemistry
• Laboratory work
• An internship in a Seattle-area professional setting

Whether you plan to enter the workforce after graduation or attend graduate school for an advanced degree or certification, an Exercise Science degree provides you with a solid foundation.

The low-residency MFA at SPU is a creative writing program for apprentice writers — both Christians and those of other faith traditions — who not only want to pursue excellence in the craft of writing but also place their work within the larger context of world literature by writers of faith.

The spiritual dimension of this program is not intended to produce didactic, sectarian, or sentimental literature. On the contrary, this program seeks to extend what our faculty understand to be a longstanding conversation that comprises much of world literature, a conversation in which the highest levels of art, an open-eyed exploration of human experience, and a respect for mystery are all held in a proper balance.

We believe that our program will appeal to writers for whom matters of faith are central. We also intend to cultivate reading and writing as spiritual disciplines. We are convinced that writers flourish best when they engage in a sustained dialogue with the great literature that has come before them. Therefore, our program maintains a strong emphasis on reading classic works from the writers of faith, and responding to them in a series of critical papers.

The Accounting major in SPU's School of Business, Government, and Economics is designed to prepare you for a wide range of professional challenges and equip you with the necessary tools to succeed in a variety of key positions throughout the business world.

ACCOUNTING MAJOR
As an Accounting student at Seattle Pacific University, you will begin to master specialized areas such as financial, managerial, and international accounting. 

You will learn about taxation, auditing, budgets, profit-and-loss statements, and information systems alongside many other topics. Our program offers an added dimension of integrity and ethics grounded in Christian faith and values, setting our graduates apart. 

Sixty percent of the world’s population lives in Asia, while millions more Asians live in other parts of the world. Asia is also home to the world’s oldest modern civilizations, as well as some of its richest cultures and most dynamic societies.

From our location in Seattle on the Pacific Rim, students and faculty at SPU learn about and encounter Asia, because this is central to our mission of understanding and engaging our multicultural and complex world.

Pursuing Asian Studies as a major or minor will deepen your understanding of, and commitment to, global and cultural engagement, reconciliation, and human flourishing. In this major, your interdisciplinary coursework and diverse educational experiences will prepare you for service or further study in:
