If you are interested in preparing for ordained ministry and for general pastoral leadership responsibilities in churches as well as parachurch, mission, and other settings, then the Master of Divinity degree program is for you. It is also the recommended first theological degree for admission to doctoral programs oriented to theological research and teaching.

With a degree in Electrical Engineering, you’ll prepare for a wide set of rewarding career options in a dynamic field. Some of the projects you’ll work on may not even be invented, yet!

Electrical engineers design and develop things such as new energy systems, biomedical equipment, computing technologies, telecommunications, transportation, entertainment, and many more systems related to electricity, electronics, or electromagnetism.

What’s different? Our approach looks to the greater good by serving others through technology. The motivation we share within a Christian environment shines through in the kinds of projects we tackle.

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics is a flexible yet demanding major designed for students interested in careers involving the applications of mathematics in a particular field.

The History major and minor programs at SPU seek a deeper understanding of world cultures.

Together we:

• Explore the roots and development of our world regional histories.
• Learn to "do" History through research and internships.
• Probe more deeply into the ways our Christian faith can speak to human issues.

The History Department launched a new curriculum in 2020 for its History Majors and Minors. The new curriculum is designed for students to grow in:

• Cross-cultural insight
• Understanding of historic inequalities and the construction of race, gender, and class over time
• The cultivation of empathy for others
• Drawing on the past to address the pressing problems of today 
• Wrestling with the sometimes dark and difficult periods of human history--wars, displacement, and injustice--and contemplating how the Christian story can speak into these challenging moments.
• Cultivating career-oriented skills and professional experiences through a new "Careers in History" class and internship placement support

The new sequence of classes for the majors and minors helps students achieve mastery of an essential skill set in an intentional way: students first take classes in "Thinking Historically," then study "Systems in History," and finally learn to "Do History" themselves.

Our redesigned majors and minor offer students flexibility in their choice of electives while ensuring that students will have broad exposure to many different time periods and world regions.

The interdisciplinary Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) major is a unique program which prepares students for leadership in many areas of public service and private enterprise.

Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) Major

PPE is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program that combines studies in political science, philosophy, and economics.  Modeled after a program at Oxford University, PPE core classes study human values, cultural institutions, and economics in order to develop multiperspectival solutions to pressing social problems. PPE students will also choose an area of emphasis from the following tracks: Applied Economics, Financial Economics, International Affairs, Law, Philosophy, Public Administration, and Social Enterprise.

The Philosophy track will open your eyes to the world of contemporary metaphysics, epistemology, and logic.

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Psychology majors are rigorous yet flexible programs designed to meet the American Psychological Association Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology major while also fulfilling SPU’s mission to provide students with a transformative and holistic experience grounded in Christian faith.

As such, these programs prepare you with extensive knowledge of the field; scientific and critical thinking skills; an awareness of diversity, ethics in practice, and social responsibility; effective oral and written communication skills; and professional-level training and experiences (e.g., research and internship opportunities) for both careers and graduate school in psychology.

Psychology (BA)

The BA in Psychology is designed for students with a broad range of career and graduate school interests such as, but not limited to, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work, school counseling, and industrial and organizational psychology.

Animal Behavior: Designed for students interested in training animals, working with owners and their pets, or seeking to become a certified applied animal behaviorist.

Are you interested in learning to communicate with grace, vigor, and integrity? Do you have a passion to engage the culture and change the world through thoughtful and faithful use of your gifts as a communicator? The Communication Studies track of the Communication major provides you with opportunities to develop your communication skills, explore your values, and acquire techniques of insight and critical reasoning.

BENEFITS
The Communication Studies track of Seattle Pacific’s Communication major is designed to prepare you for placement in the culture-shaping world of communication. If you decide to continue your studies beyond graduation, the Communication Studies track also serves as a strong framework for graduate school in any number of fields of study.

Additionally, the skills you will hone as a Communication major — self-knowledge, interpersonal communication, social interaction, presentation of self, personal discipline, risk-taking, cooperative group effort, sensitivity to others, and more — are important to many career applications besides those allied specifically with communication.

Interested in changing the world? Informed by Christian faith and a concern for justice, the Political Science major in SPU's School of Business, Government, and Economics will equip you to become the kind of citizen and leader who positively influences politics and public policy.

About the Political Science Major

As a Political Science major, you’ll wrestle with some of the most fundamental questions underlying faith and the political order. What is the relationship between Christian principles and public policy? How can Christians model both the character and truth of Jesus Christ in the public square? How should we all live in local, national, and global community?

As you explore these questions, you’ll receive broad training in political philosophy, government, law, public policy, geopolitics, international relations, and the political behavior of individuals and groups. You’ll also receive peer support and have a chance to participate in SPU's Political Union, a nonpartisan student group.

The Public Policy and Law track is especially beneficial if you are considering a career in government or plan to attend law school.

When you receive a bachelor of science in Physiology at SPU, you will have gained a solid foundation in understanding how living systems work. You will also receive a strong foundation for a future career in medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and other health-related and applied biology field. Some students pursue graduate education in physiology.

About the Physiology Major

When you major in Physiology you will study how the human body, including its cells and tissues, works. You will learn about the biological science that gives us the basis for the knowledge we need to understand how the components of our bodies work together.
