When you receive a bachelor of science in Physiology at SPU, you will have gained a solid foundation in understanding how living systems work. You will also receive a strong foundation for a future career in medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and other health-related and applied biology field. Some students pursue graduate education in physiology.

About the Physiology Major

When you major in Physiology you will study how the human body, including its cells and tissues, works. You will learn about the biological science that gives us the basis for the knowledge we need to understand how the components of our bodies work together.

Students in Seattle Pacific University’s cohort-centered Marriage and Family Therapy program learn to bring cultural sensitivity to family therapy practice. Development of competent skills occurs through an integration of self-of-the-therapist, family systems models, bio-psycho-social-spiritual perspective, and our unique ORCA-Stance. Training in a Christian context, students become instruments of healing through ethical care within diverse communities and clinical populations.

Graduates of the Master’s of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy (MS) program are prepared to demonstrate the following program goals:

If you want to become an elementary or secondary school principal, this program is for you. The degree prepares students for principal certification. To be eligible for entry into the MEd in Educational Leadership with the intention of earning a Principal Certificate, you must be a certificated teacher or certificated Educational Staff Associate (ESA) with a minimum of one year of successful teaching or related experience. The MEd in Educational Leadership also prepares individuals who want to earn a Program Administrator Certificate in order to serve as an administrator in a school district central office, resource centre, or other administrative centre. If this is your goal, you are not required to hold a teaching or ESA certificate for entry into the program, but you must have at least one year of successful experience in a P–12 school system at the building or district level. This 45-credit program offers current research and best practices to help principals and program administrators interact with students, teachers, parents and their communities.

Mechanical engineers apply hands-on physics to model, analyse, and design mechanical and energy systems such as automobiles, aircraft, ships, heating and cooling systems, prosthetics, robots, household appliances, or industrial equipment and machinery.

What’s different? You'll get individual attention from your professors in rigorous, small classes. This degree can be completed in four years at SPU. You'll learn to think critically and solve quandaries through multiple, extended hands-on projects.

Accredited? We are pursuing accreditation through the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission for the Mechanical Engineering major like we have already achieved for our other engineering majors.

This major leads to a bachelor of science degree.

The degree requirements are identical to the General Engineering/Mechanical Engineering concentration.

Chemistry forms a foundation for the study of a wide variety of scientific disciplines. It is concerned primarily with matter, energy, and their interactions. For this reason, the Apparel Design and Merchandising specialization has a strong interdisciplinary base integrating knowledge from arts, psychology, sociology, economics, business, history, physics, and chemistry. The liberal education provided by this program empowers you to think critically and to gain a sense of your intellectual and creative abilities — qualities highly coveted by employers.

 A bachelor of arts degree in Biology from SPU provides a broad foundation if you want to combine another area of study — such as education, environmental studies, law, or science writing — with a solid scientific background.

Biology Major

About the Political Science Major

As a Political Science major, you’ll wrestle with some of the most fundamental questions underlying faith and the political order. What is the relationship between Christian principles and public policy? How can Christians model both the character and truth of Jesus Christ in the public square? How should we all live in local, national, and global community?

As you explore these questions, you’ll receive broad training in political philosophy, government, law, public policy, geopolitics, international relations, and the political behavior of individuals and groups. You’ll also receive peer support and have a chance to participate in SPU's Political Union, a nonpartisan student group.

The Public Policy and Law track is especially beneficial if you are considering a career in government or plan to attend law school.
