Who designs the bridge between hardware and software? Computer engineers! Graduates of this program go on to analyze and design computers, peripheral devices, or embedded systems such as those found in today’s smart appliances and transportation.

Armed with a solid foundation in math, physics, computer science, and electronics, in this program you’ll choose from a wide range of specialized electives, from software engineering and networks, to systems design or even alternative energy.

The Integrated Studies major enables you to develop a breadth of knowledge across six content areas you will teach in elementary school: the arts, health and fitness, language arts, mathematics, natural sciences, and social sciences. These are the six content disciplines of Washington state’s Endorsement Competencies for Elementary Education K–8.

If you want to be certified with an endorsement in Elementary Education, you will complete the requirements for (1) a bachelor’s degree in Integrated Studies and (2) the Residency Teacher Certification Program in the School of Education. The Master of Arts in Theology degree program focuses on the classical theological disciplines of Scripture, Church history, theology, and ethics. The Christian Ministry concentration is designed for students who have a personal interest in theological study, are engaged in congregational or parachurch ministries, or are considering further advanced academic study in theology. The Christian Ministry concentration is a highly malleable, self-designed degree.

f you are preparing for leadership in a church or denomination — including various non-ordained ministries in congregational settings, parachurches, and Christian organizations that do not require a Master of Divinity degree — the Christian Ministry concentration is intended for you.

Choosing to major in Theatre with a Performance emphasis offers you many benefits, including the following:

• You will be prepared for dramatic performance as an actor, director, or other performing artist through intensive work in sensory awareness, observation skills, and selective imagination.
• You will grow in your mastery of stage movement through work in physical flexibility, balancing, circus techniques, hand-to-hand combat, and use of theatrical masks for performance.
• You will develop vocal skills of support, projection, and articulation.
• Through your studies and your participation in theatre productions, you will be exposed to a wide range of theatrical forms and styles.

Mechanical engineers apply hands-on physics to model, analyse, and design mechanical and energy systems such as automobiles, aircraft, ships, heating and cooling systems, prosthetics, robots, household appliances, or industrial equipment and machinery.

What’s different? You'll get individual attention from your professors in rigorous, small classes. This degree can be completed in four years at SPU. You'll learn to think critically and solve quandaries through multiple, extended hands-on projects.

Accredited? We are pursuing accreditation through the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission for the Mechanical Engineering major like we have already achieved for our other engineering majors.

This major leads to a bachelor of science degree.

The degree requirements are identical to the General Engineering/Mechanical Engineering concentration.

The MA-THEO: Christian Scripture concentration is designed to deepen your understanding and appropriation of the Bible as the church’s Scripture — originating with God’s people living in particular times and places, but authoritative for us as God’s people in all times and places. Consequently, in addition to encountering the biblical texts as texts, you will study them within the context of the Church’s larger canonical context: its foundational theology, ethics, and history of interpretation.

The interdisciplinary Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) major is a unique program which prepares students for leadership in many areas of public service and private enterprise.

Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) Major

PPE is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program that combines studies in political science, philosophy, and economics.  Modeled after a program at Oxford University, PPE core classes study human values, cultural institutions, and economics in order to develop multiperspectival solutions to pressing social problems. PPE students will also choose an area of emphasis from the following tracks: Applied Economics, Financial Economics, International Affairs, Law, Philosophy, Public Administration, and Social Enterprise.

Pursuing the Financial Economics track provides you with vital skills and knowledge in financial accounting, business finance, and investments.

A bachelor of science degree in Applied Human Biology from SPU is the ideal foundation if you plan to enter a physical therapy doctoral degree program after your undergraduate studies. The broad curriculum of this degree satisfies the basic requirements for entry into physical therapy as outlined by the American Physical Therapy Association.

Applied Human Biology Major
As an Applied Human Biology major, you’ll use an interdisciplinary approach to better understand human beings from biological and behavioral perspectives. You’ll examine the human condition through classes in anatomy and physiology, chemistry, psychology, biomechanics, and more.

The Business Administration major at SPU provides a well-rounded foundation for business. It is a broad-based program in the fundamental theories, principles, and practices of modern business. This program has attained AACSB accreditation, which is the highest level of international certification for business schools.

Deeply grounded in Christian faith and values, we believe that the purpose of business is to serve and to advance human flourishing. The Business Administration major teaches standards of professional and ethical behaviors, and develops the leadership attributes necessary for success.

As part of the Business Administration major, students also gain vital industry experience by participating in our SBGE internship program. Our students have held internships at leading local businesses and companies such as Starbucks, Boeing, Microsoft, the Seattle Mariners, and Merrill Lynch.

An Economics concentration will help prepare you for a career in analyzing public policy or forecasting economic conditions.

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Psychology majors are rigorous yet flexible programs designed to meet the American Psychological Association Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology major while also fulfilling SPU’s mission to provide students with a transformative and holistic experience grounded in Christian faith.

As such, these programs prepare you with extensive knowledge of the field; scientific and critical thinking skills; an awareness of diversity, ethics in practice, and social responsibility; effective oral and written communication skills; and professional-level training and experiences (e.g., research and internship opportunities) for both careers and graduate school in psychology.

Psychology (BS)

The BS in Psychology is designed for students with a broad range of career and graduate school interests such as, but not limited to, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work, school counseling, and industrial and organizational psychology.

Community Psychology and Behavioral Mental Health: Focuses on social justice, community development, and social services for students wanting to pursue further training or work in social work, nonprofit, community development, social justice, public health, community behavioral health.
