The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Psychology majors are rigorous yet flexible programs designed to meet the American Psychological Association Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology major while also fulfilling SPU’s mission to provide students with a transformative and holistic experience grounded in Christian faith.

As such, these programs prepare you with extensive knowledge of the field; scientific and critical thinking skills; an awareness of diversity, ethics in practice, and social responsibility; effective oral and written communication skills; and professional-level training and experiences (e.g., research and internship opportunities) for both careers and graduate school in psychology.

Psychology (BA)

The BA in Psychology is designed for students with a broad range of career and graduate school interests such as, but not limited to, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work, school counseling, and industrial and organizational psychology.

Data Analytics: Through coursework in statistics, research methods, data management, data visualization, and basic programming, students gain an understanding not only of how to manage and analyze data but also how to use data to inform practice (e.g., consumer trends, mental health outcomes and planning). This track helps prepare students for positions such as analytics consultant, data analyst, statistician, and project manager or other business management positions.

With our distinctive understanding of theological education, which we call “Academy, Abbey, and Apostolate®,” a degree in theology from SPU will help you learn to understand your faith so that, in partnership with the Holy Spirit, you might translate it into a way of life that engages the culture and changes the world.

About the Christian Theology Major

The Christian Theology major includes a set of core courses reflecting the range of theological studies, as well as substantial focus coursework that enables students to go deeper in areas of particular interest. Students in this major will also complete a three-credit internship or thesis and a two-credit Capstone course. This degree offers a transformative encounter with Scripture and the Christian tradition, preparing students to deepen their own Christian faith, nurture Christian faith in others, and serve as agents of reconciliation in diverse settings.

Choosing to major in Theatre with a Performance emphasis offers you many benefits, including the following:

• You will be prepared for dramatic performance as an actor, director, or other performing artist through intensive work in sensory awareness, observation skills, and selective imagination.
• You will grow in your mastery of stage movement through work in physical flexibility, balancing, circus techniques, hand-to-hand combat, and use of theatrical masks for performance.
• You will develop vocal skills of support, projection, and articulation.
• Through your studies and your participation in theatre productions, you will be exposed to a wide range of theatrical forms and styles.

The Christians Traditions concentration of the MA-THEO Degree is designed to expand your knowledge of the Church’s global heritage from the era of the New Testament to the present. You will discover the amazing breadth and depth of God’s redemptive work through time and throughout the world, as well as the ways in which the people of God have sometimes failed to live up to Jesus’ command to love one another

The interdisciplinary Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) major is a unique program which prepares students for leadership in many areas of public service and private enterprise.

Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) Major

PPE is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program that combines studies in political science, philosophy, and economics.  Modeled after a program at Oxford University, PPE core classes study human values, cultural institutions, and economics in order to develop multiperspectival solutions to pressing social problems. PPE students will also choose an area of emphasis from the following tracks: Applied Economics, Financial Economics, International Affairs, Law, Philosophy, Public Administration, and Social Enterprise.

Pursuing the Financial Economics track provides you with vital skills and knowledge in financial accounting, business finance, and investments.

Sixty percent of the world’s population lives in Asia, while millions more Asians live in other parts of the world. Asia is also home to the world’s oldest modern civilizations, as well as some of its richest cultures and most dynamic societies.

From our location in Seattle on the Pacific Rim, students and faculty at SPU learn about and encounter Asia, because this is central to our mission of understanding and engaging our multicultural and complex world.

Pursuing Asian Studies as a major or minor will deepen your understanding of, and commitment to, global and cultural engagement, reconciliation, and human flourishing. In this major, your interdisciplinary coursework and diverse educational experiences will prepare you for service or further study in:

As a Bachelor of Arts in Life Sciences major, you have the option of focusing on a specific area of biology (such as physiology, organismal biology, or ecology), or exposing yourself to a broad range of courses.  This flexibility will allow you to complement a second major or diverse career options with a solid foundation in the biological sciences.

Majoring in Sociology engages you in the scientific study of social behavior and social actions, that allows for a deeper understanding of the inner workings of social systems and structures. 

SPU graduates with degrees in Sociology have gone on to careers in law, social work and counseling, and social-policy fields. Sociology graduates also work in government, business, industry, and private research agencies. Others find careers in religious organizations, law enforcement agencies, and many other settings.

SPU’s BA (bachelor of arts) in Computer Science emphasizes problem-solving, organizing and synthesizing ideas, and applying computing theory. It’s an especially good choice if you’re going to double major, or minor in another field. With this degree you’ll be well prepared for projects that apply computing to other disciplines.

In this program you’ll cover the field’s major topics in 15 Computer Science courses, along with applied calculus, computer math, and statistics. In a senior project you’ll apply computer-based problem-solving techniques to an area of interest.

Chemistry forms a foundation for the study of a wide variety of scientific disciplines. It is concerned primarily with matter, energy, and their interactions. Chemists are both creators and problem-solvers who do everything from create new substances to analyze criminal evidence. They are at the forefront of efforts to make sure that technology serves people, rather than the reverse. And at Seattle Pacific University, chemists and chemistry are informed and influenced by a Christian worldview.
