The UB four-year, Bachelor of Science, BS in Interior Design Degree Program prepares graduates with the required experience for the N.C.I.D.Q. examination and state registration. In the course of their studies, Interior Design students learn about gathering design information and problem-solving in a range of actual projects, from residential to commercial design.

Students further develop technical skills for expressing design solutions, using traditional sketching methods,computer aided design (Auto CAD) and 3D simulation computer programs.

Residential, hospitality, corporate offices, retail spaces and health care: all part of the SASD Interior Design Program. Most of these projects are done in collaboration with outside design firms, which gives an added real-life experience to the students and allows them to make professional connections. SASD is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD),the governing body of undergraduate and graduate art and design schools.

Learning Outcomes and Careers

• Demonstrate ability to identify, analyze, conceptualize and solve interior design problems. Assessment: Studio portfolio projects appropriately respond to project criteria, and have clear, focused, expressive and communicative solutions to the stated problems. Apply learned design principles to solve the problem. Communicate solutions through 2D and 3D drawings, color theory and proper specifications of materials
• Demonstrate mastery of design techniques and concepts in interior design. Assessment: Projects within portfolios that show evidence of attention to detail, adherence to project-initial concepts throughout the process, and close attention that the initially presented concept matches the outcome. Projects show appropriate selection and implementation of materials, finishes, furniture, and fabrics
• Demonstrate an understanding of aesthetics and scale related to interior space, and of the history and current state of design in the world. Assessment: Projects, papers and presentations for art and history course work. In studio courses, projects that appropriately reference historical precedents and stylistic movements in interior design, bringing forward current thoughts in interior design with reference to the past. Through portfolio projects show working knowledge of scale though appropriate furniture and lighting specifications
• Demonstrate proficiency in selection and use of relevant technologies in design and in using available technologies to produce a design presentation. Assessment: Drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, rendered perspectives, and models made with the appropriate technology or software for the final presentation
• Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural and societal connections linking interior design trends and processes as well as a knowledge of business practices and of the market place. Assessment: Project solutions that are culturally and audience appropriate for the problem as posed by the criteria for the project. Awareness of the current marketplace based on materials and mechanicals specified for studio projects, projects for Business practices course work
• Demonstrate proficiency in presenting their own work as well as discussing and constructively critiquing the work of others. The University of Bridgeport Bachelor in Human Services, BS Degree Program provides students with academic and practical experiences necessary to enter the field of human services. The University’s learning context ensures that program graduates are fully acquainted with diversity, and the program’s curriculum ensures that they possess a ‘tool kit’ to face complex dilemmas that arise in the field of human service.

Coursework and theory are applied in supervised fieldwork to ensure that students are ready for employment in a wide range of human service agencies and community organizations. Our graduates have achieved high levels of success in the field. Students have the option of enhancing their programs with minors in such fields as Education, Business and Social Sciences. The Medical Laboratory Science program prepares students for an exciting career, for which employment prospects are significant. The UB Medical Laboratory Science program has achieved national accreditation through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

What is Medical Laboratory Science?

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics defines Medical Laboratory Science as follows: Clinical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Clinical laboratory technologists, also referred to as clinical laboratory scientists or medical technologists, and clinical laboratory technicians, also known as medical technicians or medical laboratory technicians, perform most of these tests.

Providing adequate healthcare to the growing and aging population—one of the most pressing challenges of the twenty-first century—is addressed by the BS in Health Sciences program.

The degree program builds upon a common foundation, consisting of courses in general education, biology, chemistry, and health sciences such as medical terminology, biostatistics, research, and epidemiology. Students select from one of four areas of concentrations: community health education, exercise and fitness, nutrition, or pre-professional.

Program graduates will work in healthcare settings at the entry level or seek additional education in a healthcare or related profession.

As a result of completing the BS, Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, graduates will be able to apply principles of health and wellness as a lifelong process of learning grounded in the study of basic sciences and the behavioral arts. The students will:

The College of Public and International Affairs Bachelor, BA, in Criminal Justice and Human Security degree program, allows students interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice to develop expertise in the international dimensions of public safety.

Students in the degree may choose from one of three areas of concentration

• Human Security
• Comparative Justice
• Criminology

The degree requires two years of college-level study of a foreign language or demonstrated working competency in a foreign language. Students have the option of choosing from Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish and French.

Qualified students also have the option of earning a Masters degree in Business Administration or in Global Development and Peace by completing a fifth year of study beyond the normal years.

UB Criminal Justice track students are also encouraged to take courses in Martial Arts. Internships with law enforcement agencies are also available.

The B.A. in Criminal Justice & Human Security has the following learning outcomes

The University’s Mathematics program is designed to prepare the student for graduate work in applied mathematics and allied areas, careers in industry (actuarial and quantitative areas of biological and social sciences) and government employment. Depending on their professional aspirations and career plans, students can choose either a B.S. or B.A. degree.

Both degree programs in Mathematics require Computer Science 101 and 102. Students may take additional mathematics electives; those who intend to go to graduate school are advised to obtain competence in a foreign language and to elect one or more 400-level mathematics courses.

The UB Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering Technology, BS degree program is designed to address the need for graduates with skills in computer programming, computer hardware and computer networks. The Computer Engineering Technology program provides students with the opportunity to focus on applications and implementations more than theory and conceptual design. This program is open for new enrollment and for transfer students from community colleges.

The Computer Engineering Technology program at the University of Bridgeport will prepare graduates with the skills necessary to enter careers in the design, application, installation, programming, networking, and operation of computer systems. Graduate students are well prepared for development and implementation of computer systems and networks.

Engineering programs often focus on theory and conceptual design, while engineering technology programs usually focus on application and implementation. Engineering programs typically require additional, higher-level mathematics, including multiple semesters of calculus and calculus-based theoretical science courses, while engineering technology programs typically focus on algebra, trigonometry, applied calculus, and other courses that are more practical than theoretical in nature.

The UB Bachelor of Science degree program in Finance provides an integrated view of the theoretical and practical aspects of finance for those who are preparing for careers in financial management, financial institutions, financial markets, law, government service, and related fields.

Essential skills in problem-solving are developed with an emphasis on wealth maximization. Financial problems are viewed from both their micro-financial and macro-financial aspects.

The Finance major includes the subject areas of corporate financial management, banking, and investments. The program provides an integrated view of the theoretical and practical aspects of Finance for those who are preparing for careers in financial management, financial institutions, financial markets, law, government service, and related fields.

The undergraduate Electrical Engineering program at the University of Bridgeport prepares students for a career in Electrical Engineering in any of its specializations such as communications, power/renewable energy, signals and systems and VLSI/ electronics. The program includes analysis and design courses that need a strong background in mathematics and science.

Electrical Engineering is one of the largest discipline in engineering which deals with power, controls, signals and systems, materials, communications, micro-nano electronics and more. The Electrical Engineering curriculum at UB prepares our students to be skilled problem solvers, ready for a multitude of career opportunities. Our gradates work in public and private sectors, for almost every industry imaginable, including e-commerce, communication, health-care, the space industry, defense, home-land security, renewable energy and technology startups.

Design and problem solving form the heart of the discipline and a variety of computer aided design (CAD) tools are utilized to facilitate problem-based learning and implementation. The graduate of this program will obtain the basic education in the first three years. The senior year is utilized to explore specific areas of interest. A total of 120 semester hours are required to complete the degree.
