The four-year Bachelor in Fine Arts in Graphic Design, BFA degree program consists of an integrated, inter-disciplinary sequence that is designed to strengthen communication skills, promote teamwork and individuality, stimulate creativity, and provide both traditional and technological skills for the career-oriented student.

Graphic Design students learn techniques and processes to build their portfolios with works prepared for both traditional print and new media including typography, branding and identity, promotional campaigns, publications, motion, and interactive. Typefaces, logos, and websites, drawing, painting, and video: all part of the SASD Graphic Design Program. The program emphasizes process, real-world community projects, and skill-building toward a final self-directed project in the senior year. SASD is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the governing body of undergraduate and graduate art and design schools.

Graphic Design Learning Outcomes

• Demonstrate ability to identify, analyze, and solve graphic design problems. Assessment: Portfolio projects appropriately respond to project briefs, and are clear, focused, expressive, and communicative solutions to the stated problems.
• Demonstrate mastery of design tools, techniques, and concepts in graphic design. Assessment: Projects and portfolios that evidence craftsmanship, adherence to project parameters, and appropriate selection of typefaces, images, composition, and implementation.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the aesthetics of form development and of the history and current state of design.
• Demonstrate proficiency in selection and use of relevant technologies in design. Abilities to use available technical and industrial processes to produce a design product, and to design and implement such a process. Assessment: Project and portfolio materials are made with the appropriate technology or software for the final application. Projects are planned to be feasibly reproducible by industrial/commercial means rather than by one-off or by hand.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural and societal connections linking graphic design trends and processes as well as a knowledge of business practices and of the market place. Assessment: Projects and portfolio solutions that are culturally- and audience-appropriate for the problem as posed by the brief for the project
• Demonstrate proficiency in presenting their own work as well as discussing and constructively critiquing the work of others. Assessment: Active participation in class critiques; clear, thoughtful presentation of students’ own projects, ability to give, accept, and incorporate feedback.

A music degree from the University of Bridgeport will provide students with the preparation they need to build a career in today’s music world. UB has been training musicians since 1947. We offer an experienced and dedicated faculty of artist-teachers, the kind of personal attention and advising usually found at small colleges, and the sort of spacious and well-designed facilities typically found at large universities.

Our Bachelor of Music degree provides pre-professional training in music, including concentrations in Music Business, Music Education, and Music Performance.

The UB School of Education offers a master’s degree that leads to initial Connecticut certification in several subjects, including Music Teaching Certification (K-12). This program welcomes musicians from a variety of backgrounds who wish to become state-certified in music. The Bachelor of Science degree program in Business Analytics and Intelligence provides course work from the School of Business with a special emphasis in the application of data analytics to business problems. Course offerings emphasize those analytic and critical thinking skills presently needed by business professionals. With the constant development of new technologies, there is a need to efficiently collect and store vast amounts of digital data.

Students in this program will acquire a set of practical data analytic skills. Additionally, students will develop the necessary skills to extract, analyze, organize and present data in a manner that is useful for organizational decision making. The program will require students to develop a high level of quantitative and technological skills. It utilizes the courses from the undergraduate business core, existing courses from the School of Business, and specialized courses in the area of Business Analytics and Intelligence.

• Effectively evaluate and frame the business problem and acquire knowledge and skills of statistical tools available to analyze business problems such as the Business Intelligence Concepts of Online Analytical Processing and Data Mining.

The Medical Laboratory Science program prepares students for an exciting career, for which employment prospects are significant. The UB Medical Laboratory Science program has achieved national accreditation through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

What is Medical Laboratory Science?

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics defines Medical Laboratory Science as follows: Clinical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Clinical laboratory technologists, also referred to as clinical laboratory scientists or medical technologists, and clinical laboratory technicians, also known as medical technicians or medical laboratory technicians, perform most of these tests.

The College of Public and International Affairs Bachelor, BA, in Criminal Justice and Human Security degree program, allows students interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice to develop expertise in the international dimensions of public safety.

Students in the degree may choose from one of three areas of concentration

• Human Security
• Comparative Justice
• Criminology

The degree requires two years of college-level study of a foreign language or demonstrated working competency in a foreign language. Students have the option of choosing from Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish and French.

Qualified students also have the option of earning a Masters degree in Business Administration or in Global Development and Peace by completing a fifth year of study beyond the normal years.

UB Criminal Justice track students are also encouraged to take courses in Martial Arts. Internships with law enforcement agencies are also available.

The B.A. in Criminal Justice & Human Security has the following learning outcomes

• Students will demonstrate the progressive acquisition of the oral, written critical thinking skills needed to succeed in graduate level study as well as the required skills for careers in domestic and international security
• Students will be able to identify the essential elements of criminal justice
• Students will be able to articulate the importance of Human Security and explore its impact on domestic and international security
• Students will demonstrate the language skills and intercultural understanding required for effective law enforcement in today’s globalized society
• Students will be able to describe the role played by religious, ideological, and cultural views; ethnic and tribal identities; and economic status in rationalizing criminal behavior
• Students will demonstrate an understanding of the role played in criminal behavior by socioeconomic inequities and societal injustice, resulting from domestic and non-domestic events
• Students will be able to comment on the role played by non-state actors in areas such as the identification of norms, the acceptability of violence and terrorism in promoting policy changes and in preventing crime.

Providing adequate healthcare to the growing and aging population—one of the most pressing challenges of the twenty-first century—is addressed by the BS in Health Sciences program.

The degree program builds upon a common foundation, consisting of courses in general education, biology, chemistry, and health sciences such as medical terminology, biostatistics, research, and epidemiology. Students select from one of four areas of concentrations: community health education, exercise and fitness, nutrition, or pre-professional.

Program graduates will work in healthcare settings at the entry level or seek additional education in a healthcare or related profession.
