The Associate in Arts in Business Administration degree program at UB provides options for students who want only two years of college study and students who are not certain about their degree objectives. This undergraduate degree program requires that all freshman and sophomore core business courses and business prerequisites, as well as University core requirements, be completed with an average grade of “C” or better.

Two-year business study at the University of Bridgeport provides many advantages not usually available to junior college or two-year college students. All the resources of the university are available to two-year students as readily as for bachelor’s or MBA students. This includes planning/placement services and all of the social, sports and extracurricular activities of the campus.

Students receive all the guidance and advising of a small, two-year college, while completing their studies in the environment of an internationally accredited business program provided by a major university. The A.A. degree in Business Administration does not have ACBSP accreditation.

The Medical Laboratory Science program prepares students for an exciting career, for which employment prospects are significant. The UB Medical Laboratory Science program has achieved national accreditation through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

What is Medical Laboratory Science?

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics defines Medical Laboratory Science as follows: Clinical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Clinical laboratory technologists, also referred to as clinical laboratory scientists or medical technologists, and clinical laboratory technicians, also known as medical technicians or medical laboratory technicians, perform most of these tests.

Three degree programs are offered through the UB General Studies program: Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS.) and Bachelor of Science (BS) in General Studies. These degrees offer maximum flexibility to explore curricula of the different undergraduate programs at the University.

In the BS in General Studies program, students work with an academic advisor to design an academic program tailored to their specific needs and goals. For example, one might combine a Business Studies concentration that focuses on Marketing and Management with a minor in Mass Communications, or combine a Social Sciences concentration that focuses on Psychology and Sociology with a Human Services minor. The Natural Sciences and Mathematics concentration is frequently used to fulfill the science prerequisites for graduate study in the health professions, leaving a student room to explore the undergraduate curriculum in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Human Services.

The B.S. in General Studies is an excellent option for transfer students since it allows the maximum number of free electives permitted by the university. Program graduates have attended business, law, and medical school. Many have gone on to careers in education, human services, and community service. This program is offered at our main Bridgeport campus, as well as the Waterbury Center location.

Providing adequate healthcare to the growing and aging population—one of the most pressing challenges of the twenty-first century—is addressed by the BS in Health Sciences program.

The degree program builds upon a common foundation, consisting of courses in general education, biology, chemistry, and health sciences such as medical terminology, biostatistics, research, and epidemiology. Students select from one of four areas of concentrations: community health education, exercise and fitness, nutrition, or pre-professional.

Program graduates will work in healthcare settings at the entry level or seek additional education in a healthcare or related profession.

As a result of completing the BS, Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, graduates will be able to apply principles of health and wellness as a lifelong process of learning grounded in the study of basic sciences and the behavioral arts. The students will:

The Technology Management Master’s Program is designed to develop leaders adept at managing technological change, and skilled in establishing and maintaining superior competitive advantage for their respective enterprises or for new ventures. For an enterprise, continuing advancement of technology provides both opportunities and threats.

The UB Bachelor of Science degree program in Finance provides an integrated view of the theoretical and practical aspects of finance for those who are preparing for careers in financial management, financial institutions, financial markets, law, government service, and related fields.

Essential skills in problem-solving are developed with an emphasis on wealth maximization. Financial problems are viewed from both their micro-financial and macro-financial aspects.

The Finance major includes the subject areas of corporate financial management, banking, and investments. The program provides an integrated view of the theoretical and practical aspects of Finance for those who are preparing for careers in financial management, financial institutions, financial markets, law, government service, and related fields.

The UB four-year, Bachelor of Science, BS in Interior Design Degree Program prepares graduates with the required experience for the N.C.I.D.Q. examination and state registration. In the course of their studies, Interior Design students learn about gathering design information and problem-solving in a range of actual projects, from residential to commercial design.

Students further develop technical skills for expressing design solutions, using traditional sketching methods,computer aided design (Auto CAD) and 3D simulation computer programs.

Residential, hospitality, corporate offices, retail spaces and health care: all part of the SASD Interior Design Program. Most of these projects are done in collaboration with outside design firms, which gives an added real-life experience to the students and allows them to make professional connections. SASD is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD),the governing body of undergraduate and graduate art and design schools.

Assessment: Studio portfolio projects appropriately respond to project criteria, and have clear, focused, expressive and communicative solutions to the stated problems. Apply learned design principles to solve the problem. Communicate solutions through 2D and 3D drawings, color theory and proper specifications of materials
• Demonstrate mastery of design techniques and concepts in interior design. Assessment: Projects within portfolios that show evidence of attention to detail, adherence to project-initial concepts throughout the process, and close attention that the initially presented concept matches the outcome. Projects show appropriate selection and implementation of materials, finishes, furniture, and fabrics
• Demonstrate an understanding of aesthetics and scale related to interior space, and of the history and current state of design in the world. Assessment: Projects, papers and presentations for art and history course work. In studio courses, projects that appropriately reference historical precedents and stylistic movements in interior design, bringing forward current thoughts in interior design with reference to the past. Through portfolio projects show working knowledge of scale though appropriate furniture and lighting specifications
• Demonstrate proficiency in selection and use of relevant technologies in design and in using available technologies to produce a design presentation. Assessment: Drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, rendered perspectives, and models made with the appropriate technology or software for the final presentation
• Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural and societal connections linking interior design trends and processes as well as a knowledge of business practices and of the market place. Assessment: Project solutions that are culturally and audience appropriate for the problem as posed by the criteria for the project. Awareness of the current marketplace based on materials and mechanicals specified for studio projects, projects for Business practices course work
• Demonstrate proficiency in presenting their own work as well as discussing and constructively critiquing the work of others. The Master’s Degree in Computer Science degree program is intended to prepare individuals with a strong mathematical, scientific, or technical background for entry into the computer science field at an advanced level and for further study leading to the doctorate.

Today, computing is an enormously vibrant field. From its inception just half a century ago, computing has become the defining technology of our age.

Computers are integral to modern culture and are the primary engine behind much of the world’s economic growth. The field, moreover, continues to evolve at an astonishing pace. New technologies are introduced continually, and existing ones become obsolete in the space of a few years. The rapid evolution of the discipline has an effect on computing education, affecting both content and pedagogy.

The Bachelor's in Computer Science, BS degree program core coursework provide basic coverage of algorithms, data structures, software design, concepts of programming languages, and computer organization and architecture. Theoretical foundations, problem analysis, and solution design are stressed within the program’s core materials. Students are exposed to a variety of programming languages and systems and become proficient in more than one higher-level language. A total of 130 semester hours is required for graduation.
