When you major in Art (B.A.), you’ll take your passions to new levels of creativity and expression. You’ll start with a foundational year, where you’ll get exposure to every medium from drawing to metalsmithing to ceramics to digital art. In the B.A. program, you’ll become adept at studio arts, and can focus on history or integrated visual studies, which combines art coursework with coursework from another discipline.

Art History - Concentration
The Art History concentration seeks to develop students' critical and analytical skills and their ability to comprehend global visual arts within social, historical, cultural, and aesthetic frameworks. Students learn about the visual and material culture of societies from around the world and across time, reflecting the global turn in the discipline of Art History today. Our program offers a diverse array of courses that range from the Italian Renaissance to contemporary African art, women in art, and native North American art. Art History majors can apply their skills in visual literacy, analytical research, and oral communication to a wide range of fields to shape their career path. Our students have entered careers in academia, museums, historical societies, and auction houses, just to name a few.

Human Resource Management - Concentration
It’s often said, but it bears repeating — the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. By studying human resource management at the CSU College of Business, you can play a direct role in shaping the mission, vision, and values of a company by supporting the individuals and teams within it. Human resource management combines an appreciation for and understanding of business with a passion for helping people grow and develop.

Students who excel in the field of statistics typically have strong quantitative skills, analytical minds, and like to help people solve problems. CSU offers a small department with ample opportunities for internships. With the growing prevalence of big data and the focus on quantitative analysis, there are job opportunities for statisticians in virtually every field from science to medicine to entertainment to politics and beyond.
Statistics is the science of modeling, summarizing, and analyzing data. Statisticians help people produce trustworthy data, analyze the data, and present the results in a useful manner. Statisticians work with people from other professional backgrounds to solve practical problems. They provide crucial guidance in determining what information is reliable and which predictions can be trusted. An exciting aspect of the field is the diversity of areas where statistical methods are used; this is one reason for continuing strong demand for well-trained statisticians. With the popularity of big data and the focus on quantitative analysis in many fields, there will continue to be a high demand for graduates with a statistics major or minor. Studying Landscape Architecture at CSU is an adventure. Taking part in a challenging course of study, students prepare themselves for careers in a field whose enormous potential has only begun to be recognized. Landscape Architecture students study design as accomplished landscape architects see it: shaping spaces as well as planning and preserving them.

Landscape architects lead the stewardship, planning, and design of built and natural environments. Throughout the program, emphasis is on the relationship between design, nature, and society: the impact of environments on the individual as well as the impact of users on the environment. Registration laws for landscape architects in 49 states encourage graduation from programs such as that offered at CSU, which is accredited by the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Landscape architects must analyze the natural elements of a site including the climate, soil, slope of the land, drainage, sunlight, and vegetation. Computer-aided design (CAD) has become an essential tool for landscape architects. Landscape architects often work with building architects, surveyors, engineers, and urban planners and collaborate with environmental scientists, foresters, and other professionals to find the best way to conserve or restore natural resources. Knowledge of appropriate local, state, or federal regulations such as those protecting wetlands or historic resources is essential.

Nature, culture, form, and space are the classic elements of landscape architecture with which students work in a series of design studies and related courses. Coursework focuses on a variety of landscape projects that grow more complex as the curriculum proceeds. The courses include subjects such as site design, landscape design and construction, surveying, landscape ecology, and urban and regional planning. Other courses specific to the major are history of the designed landscape, plant and soil science, geology, and professional practice. Students are also encouraged to take advantage of summer travel courses available to study highly-valued ecological/cultural sites in Colorado and designed landscapes in Europe.

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music allows students to study music within a larger context of a liberal arts education. In comparison to the curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Music (B.M.), less emphasis is placed on studies specifically in music, with greater flexibility for studies in a field outside of music. In lieu of a larger number of credits in music as required for the B.M, the B.A. student completes a 21-credit option in an area outside of music. In addition, completion of a major paper or capstone recital (half recital) is required during the senior year.

Music Education - Concentration
The Bachelor of Music, Music Education Concentration is a professional degree program that prepares students for teaching choral, instrumental, and general music in elementary and secondary schools. This degree prepares students to apply for music teaching licensure (grades K-12) in the state of Colorado. CSU’s outstanding music education faculty members are in demand as clinicians, guest lecturers, conductors, and researchers. A feature unique to the accredited music education curriculum is extensive field experience that students receive throughout their coursework, culminating in a semester of student teaching at the end of the program. Students must select one of two options: instrumental or choral. Upon completion of this degree, students are poised to:

• Be both highly qualified practitioners and leaders in K-12 education at the elementary and secondary levels;
• Apply learned skills in professional K-12 music teaching settings, including age-appropriate instructional delivery, ensemble leadership, curricular and pedagogical process, learning theory, and the impacts of assessment on student learning;
• Create music curriculum assessment tools designed to measure both simple and complex learning in both classroom and studio/applied settings;
• Engage in informed critical discussion regarding current standards-based frameworks in music and in contemporary K-12 American education contexts;
• Define national trends in music education that impact K-12 educational settings;

This interdisciplinary program examines the cultural and social construction of gender, explores the history, experiences, and contributions of women to society, and studies the influences of gender on the lives of women and men. Looking at the world through this lens allows us to more directly and effectively address issues of social justice and social change. By studying gender relations, students learn skills that work toward dismantling gender-based inequality and promote gender equity in various arenas of social life.

It’s no secret that knowing other languages opens doors to a world of opportunities. This major offers undergraduate instruction in 10 languages, concentrations in French, German and Spanish, and opportunities for education abroad. You’ll gain the ability to communicate in another tongue, but also to analyze literary texts and films, to understand the workings of language, to appreciate diversity and to interact successfully across cultures.

Spanish - Concentration
Courses include language, linguistics, translation, Latin American literatures and cultures, Peninsular literatures and cultures and Transatlantic studies. Students join the Spanish Club, El Centro, and study abroad.

Real Estate -  Concentration
Real estate professionals help find, provide, and manage physical spaces and coordinate across industries including architecture, construction, law, finance, marketing, property management, and urban development.
Take your natural interests and craft them into a lasting career. While studying real estate at the College of Business, you’ll learn from faculty who have years of real estate and financial experience. You’ll find specialized resources like the Everitt Real Estate Center and a suite of courses that account for the latest changes and best practices in the field of real estate.

Sociology is the study of social life. It focuses on the interaction between human groups and societal institutions, from social relationships within family units in preindustrial cultures to those within large, bureaucratic institutions in major industrialized nations. As one of the largest and most diverse departments on campus, we pride ourselves on celebrating our many backgrounds, experiences, and different ways of thinking. What binds us together is the desire to make the world a better place by understanding how society works and helping solve problems.

Sociology majors have many opportunities to pursue broad and diverse ranges of interest. Students gain a sense of social perspective, an understanding of human affairs, an ability to think critically and perform research, and a capacity to write well. The curriculum includes general courses in the arts and humanities and the social sciences along with sociology course work. A generous selection of electives allows students to major or minor in a complementary discipline. A Sociology major also may enroll in one of the interdisciplinary minors, such as Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Religious Studies, or Women’s and Gender Studies.

The master’s degree specializing in marriage and family therapy is an accredited program that will prepare you to be a licensed marriage and family therapist. The coursework focuses on individual and family development, evidence-based clinical practices, ethics, and social justice. The program features live therapy sessions under the supervision of the faculty in the program that will prepare you for a career in private practice, health agencies, or to go on to doctoral studies.
