Graduate study in Sociology at CSU is designed to provide the qualified student with professional competence in sociological theory and research methods, and social change. The graduate program in Sociology at Colorado State University focuses on social change and our faculty members carry out applied and policy research nationally and internationally on the causes and consequences of social change on individuals, communities, and nations. You’ll start with two foundational theatre years, then choose from three concentrations — Design and Technology, General Theatre, and Performance — where you’ll get to specialize in your interest areas and get deep experience to prepare you for your career.

Performance - Concentration
CSU Theatre's Performance Concentration equips students with the skills needed to pursue a variety of fields related to their own creative and professional paths. Engaged with their passion and imagination, young performers receive rigorous training in text analysis, acting technique, movement, voice and speech, emotional expression, and critical thinking. In the process of understanding theatre, they make visceral connections between the physical, emotional, and scholarly as they harness their own stories and artistic vision.

The concentration emphasizes both the theoretical and practical aspects of theatre, and focuses on developing well-rounded, responsible artists, leaders, and communicators who value collaboration within an artistic community.

The track will prepare students for ‌careers‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌variety‌ ‌of‌ ‌governmental‌ ‌and‌ ‌non-governmental‌ ‌organizations,‌ ‌ranging‌ ‌from‌ ‌non-profits‌ ‌to‌ ‌advocacy‌ ‌groups‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌private‌ ‌sector.‌ It ‌will‌ ‌also‌ ‌serve‌ ‌students‌ ‌who‌ ‌plan‌ ‌to‌ ‌continue‌ ‌their education‌ ‌in‌ ‌professional‌ ‌schools‌ ‌or‌ ‌Ph.D.‌ ‌programs, or secondary school educators who would like to deepen their expertise in‌ ‌the‌ ‌humanities‌ ‌and‌ ‌social‌ sciences.‌

Graduates possess technical skills in problem solving, systems planning, integrative team decision making, quantitative analysis, oral and verbal communications, and computer operations. Graduates are familiar with skills useful in a business setting and the historic evolution of environmental conservation. Additionally, graduates develop an appreciation for how their discipline contributes to environmental stewardship and sustainability. Two concentrations are offered – Global Tourism and Natural Resource Tourism.

Students will demonstrate:

• Written and oral communication skills, with a focus on writing skills. Student writing and speaking will embody characteristics that represent attention to high quality communication skills, including substance of the issue addressed, organization of the paper or presentation, mechanics, and evidence.
• Research and analytical skills. These skills will include the ability to generate a problem statement, associated research questions, data acquisition methodologies, synthesis of related information and the development of management implications and conclusions.
• Planning skills. These will involve an ability to implement the planning process, including setting goals and objectives, acquiring relevant background information, synthesizing information, conceptualizing ideas, constructing alternative courses of action, making recommendations and considering ways of evaluating decisions.

It’s no secret that knowing other languages opens doors to a world of opportunities. This major offers undergraduate instruction in 10 languages, concentrations in French, German and Spanish, and opportunities for education abroad. You’ll gain the ability to communicate in another tongue, but also to analyze literary texts and films, to understand the workings of language, to appreciate diversity and to interact successfully across cultures.

Concentration in German
Students take courses in language, literature, linguistics, culture, and practical applications such as Business German or translation and host cultural events through the German Club.

The Department of Construction Management maintains close ties to the construction/engineering/architecture industry and offers applied research opportunities. The program focuses on research and theory with a strong emphasis on project management. The curriculum design allows students to tailor a portion of the specialization requirements to meet individual interests and goals.

The Agricultural Education major is designed for students who want to learn and teach the science, business, and technology of agriculture, food, and environmental/natural resource systems. Students will develop and refine their communication skills, along with other attributes necessary to serve as educational leaders and managers. Agricultural Education prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices within the field.

The Business major encourages critical thinking while exploring modern management theories, relevant business practices, and current industry trends. You’ll discover your interests along the way and begin to focus your studies based on your interests and talents. Then you can choose from 10 concentrations to merge your academic focus with your career goals.

Finance - Concentration
Every business has a distinct set of resources to consider — such as raw materials, human resources, products, or marketing — but everyone has one unifying resource they need to manage before they can pursue any of their goals: money.

By studying finance at the CSU College of Business, you’ll learn how to measure and analyze the ways that organizations grow and help them navigate through risks and toward success. If you’re interested in understanding how all the functions of a business are tied together and are a passionate problem-solver, a concentration in finance allows you to put your interests to work.

The Department of Anthropology and Geography houses a diverse faculty that includes cultural anthropologists, archaeologists, biological anthropologists, and geographers whose scholarship spans the breadth of human experience.

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music allows students to study music within a larger context of a liberal arts education. In comparison to the curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Music (B.M.), less emphasis is placed on studies specifically in music, with greater flexibility for studies in a field outside of music. In lieu of a larger number of credits in music as required for the B.M, the B.A. student completes a 21-credit option in an area outside of music. In addition, completion of a major paper or capstone recital (half recital) is required during the senior year.

Composition - Concentration
The Composition concentration is a professional undergraduate degree program designed to prepare the student to compose original music for a wide variety of genres, including symphonic works, chamber music, electronic music, and music for media. Course work emphasizes comprehensive musicianship, with particular emphasis on individualized study in music composition.
