The Natural Sciences major is geared to students who want to become high school or junior high and middle school science teachers as well as to students who want a broad exposure to mathematics and the physical sciences. Internships and volunteer activities provide practical training and experience. This major allows students to meet the requirements for Colorado teacher licensure upon graduation – including a semester of teaching – which prepares students to meet the demand for secondary science educators in Colorado and across the country.

The Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences meets the needs of two audiences:

• Students who wish to become high school or junior high/middle school science teachers.
• Students who seek a broad exposure to mathematics and the physical sciences, rather than specialization in one discipline.

Graduate study in Sociology at CSU is designed to provide the qualified student with professional competence in sociological theory and research methods, and social change. The graduate program in Sociology at Colorado State University focuses on social change and our faculty members carry out applied and policy research nationally and internationally on the causes and consequences of social change on individuals, communities, and nations. Areas of current shared interest among faculty include environment and natural resources, agriculture and food, and social justice and governance.

This major focuses on the understanding the social aspect of natural resources, as well as developing the skills to assess, plan and, implement strategies that lead to successful conservation. As an HDNR major, you’ll take science courses and do field work, but you’ll also become trained in thoughtful and professional communication, public speaking, and writing. You’ll come out with career opportunities that stretch from conservation to government policy, exploration to education, and beyond.

The source of many challenges in natural resources involves human behavior, and solutions to those challenges requires innovative problem-solving, a deep understanding of complex issues, and collective action. This major is focused on understanding the social aspects of natural resources, and developing the skills to assess, plan and implement strategies that lead to successful conservation.  Curriculum for this major trains students in the areas of communication, leadership, systems thinking, collaboration, conflict management, decision-making, social science research in conservation, and conservation planning and management.

Students who excel in the field of statistics typically have strong quantitative skills, analytical minds, and like to help people solve problems. CSU offers a small department with ample opportunities for internships. With the growing prevalence of big data and the focus on quantitative analysis, there are job opportunities for statisticians in virtually every field from science to medicine to entertainment to politics and beyond.
Statistics is the science of modeling, summarizing, and analyzing data. Statisticians help people produce trustworthy data, analyze the data, and present the results in a useful manner. Statisticians work with people from other professional backgrounds to solve practical problems. They provide crucial guidance in determining what information is reliable and which predictions can be trusted. An exciting aspect of the field is the diversity of areas where statistical methods are used; this is one reason for continuing strong demand for well-trained statisticians. With the popularity of big data and the focus on quantitative analysis in many fields, there will continue to be a high demand for graduates with a statistics major or minor. The International Studies major is an interdisciplinary program designed to help you explore and understand the nature of diverse cultures and peoples. You’ll learn a broad range of subjects, all of which contribute to a wide range of job prospects from government, academics, law and foreign service to communications, media, journalism, and beyond. Within the major, you’ll have multiple opportunities to travel, learn languages, and explore cultures around the world.

The International Studies major is an interdisciplinary program designed to help students understand the nature of diverse cultures and peoples. There are five concentrations: Asian Studies, European Studies, Global Studies, Latin American Studies, and Middle East and North African Studies. Courses are required in anthropology & geography, political science, economics, history, foreign language,and international studies, with other elective courses chosen from these and many more disciplines across the college and university.

The B.F.A. in Art is considered the professional degree for studio art and art education majors, allowing you to explore various mediums and gain a foundational knowledge base in art history. You’ll get opportunities to learn from masters of their crafts as well as look back upon art throughout the ages, different forms of expression, and their impact on society.

Pottery - Concentration
The Pottery concentration is committed to providing a comprehensive curriculum in the range of processes and concepts present in contemporary ceramic art. The philosophy of the area encourages the concurrent development of critical, technical, and manual skills. Issues and debates in contemporary crafts, sculpture, architecture, design, and studio pottery are presented alongside a rigorous exploration of forming and decorating processes and technology. Faculty mentor students in refining their artistic voice through the medium of ceramics. Students' conceptual development and materials-based learning are encouraged through access to a well-equipped studio facility with materials and tools that support experimentation. Students' capstone experience results in a defined body of work that demonstrates conceptual rigor and depth of choices connecting the material and the visual.

European Studies - Concentration
This interdisciplinary concentration combines European history, religion, philosophy, literature, art, and political science, along with three years of language (French, German, Russian, Spanish, or substitution with advisor approval) to give you the tools to understand and interpret the continent’s rich-and-intriguing past and present.

You might be interested in the “boots on the ground” side of agriculture, but you also might be interested in policies that affect it. Maybe you want to work in the government to help support the businesses that grow/develop food. Maybe you’re adept at numbers and economics, ready to help ranchers and farmers stay on top of their operations. Whatever your passion, this major offers a wide variety of career paths along with the hands-on experiences you need to discover and achieve your dreams.

The track will prepare students for ‌careers‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌variety‌ ‌of‌ ‌governmental‌ ‌and‌ ‌non-governmental‌ ‌organizations,‌ ‌ranging‌ ‌from‌ ‌non-profits‌ ‌to‌ ‌advocacy‌ ‌groups‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌private‌ ‌sector.‌ It ‌will‌ ‌also‌ ‌serve‌ ‌students‌ ‌who‌ ‌plan‌ ‌to‌ ‌continue‌ ‌their education‌ ‌in‌ ‌professional‌ ‌schools‌ ‌or‌ ‌Ph.D.‌ ‌programs, or secondary school educators who would like to deepen their expertise in‌ ‌the‌ ‌humanities‌ ‌and‌ ‌social‌ sciences.‌
