The Department of English is home to poets and linguists, literacy researchers and teacher educators, novelists and literary scholars, composition specialists and writers of creative nonfiction.

The MA in English with a specialization in Writing, Rhetoric, and Social Change allows you to pursue the study of writing and writing instruction, including the theory and practice of writing and writing instruction; the roles writing plays in public and private contexts; the composing processes used by writers in varying contexts and for particular purposes; the social, cultural, and historical forces shaping writing and writing instruction; and the impact of technology on writing and writing instruction.

The International Studies major is an interdisciplinary program designed to help you explore and understand the nature of diverse cultures and peoples. You’ll learn a broad range of subjects, all of which contribute to a wide range of job prospects from government, academics, law and foreign service to communications, media, journalism, and beyond. Within the major, you’ll have multiple opportunities to travel, learn languages, and explore cultures around the world. This major includes an accelerated option for students to graduate on a faster schedule.

European Studies - Concentration
This interdisciplinary concentration combines European history, religion, philosophy, literature, art, and political science, along with three years of language (French, German, Russian, Spanish, or substitution with advisor approval) to give you the tools to understand and interpret the continent’s rich-and-intriguing past and present.

This major focuses on the understanding the social aspect of natural resources, as well as developing the skills to assess, plan and, implement strategies that lead to successful conservation. As an HDNR major, you’ll take science courses and do field work, but you’ll also become trained in thoughtful and professional communication, public speaking, and writing. You’ll come out with career opportunities that stretch from conservation to government policy, exploration to education, and beyond.

The source of many challenges in natural resources involves human behavior, and solutions to those challenges requires innovative problem-solving, a deep understanding of complex issues, and collective action. This major is focused on understanding the social aspects of natural resources, and developing the skills to assess, plan and implement strategies that lead to successful conservation.  Curriculum for this major trains students in the areas of communication, leadership, systems thinking, collaboration, conflict management, decision-making, social science research in conservation, and conservation planning and management.

The Business major encourages critical thinking while exploring modern management theories, relevant business practices, and current industry trends. You’ll discover your interests along the way and begin to focus your studies based on your interests and talents. Then you can choose from 10 concentrations to merge your academic focus with your career goals.

Marketing - Concentration

Students who excel in the field of statistics typically have strong quantitative skills, analytical minds, and like to help people solve problems. CSU offers a small department with ample opportunities for internships. With the growing prevalence of big data and the focus on quantitative analysis, there are job opportunities for statisticians in virtually every field from science to medicine to entertainment to politics and beyond.
Statistics is the science of modeling, summarizing, and analyzing data. Statisticians help people produce trustworthy data, analyze the data, and present the results in a useful manner. Statisticians work with people from other professional backgrounds to solve practical problems. They provide crucial guidance in determining what information is reliable and which predictions can be trusted. An exciting aspect of the field is the diversity of areas where statistical methods are used; this is one reason for continuing strong demand for well-trained statisticians. With the popularity of big data and the focus on quantitative analysis in many fields, there will continue to be a high demand for graduates with a statistics major or minor. Philosophy is the oldest form of systematic, scholarly inquiry. It is the study of the most basic moral, legal, aesthetic, religious, and metaphysical ideas by which we pursue understanding and develop principles of conduct. Philosophers seek to establish standards of evidence, provide rational methods of conflict resolution, establish criteria for just social orders, and create techniques for evaluating ideas and arguments.

The study of philosophy broadens and intensifies liberal education while enhancing interpretive abilities in many fields. The curriculum encourages a broad liberal arts background, including courses in foreign languages, and a plan for graduate school and teaching careers in philosophy. The broad relevance of philosophy to other fields permits most students to work toward goals such as professional training in law, medicine, business, or theology. There are three concentrations available to Philosophy majors: General Philosophy; Global Philosophies and Religions; and Philosophy, Science and Technology. It is not unusual for Philosophy majors to second-major in other disciplines, and these concentrations combine easily with other majors at CSU.

Latin American Studies - Concentration
This concentration aims to trace the similarities and differences among the Latin American countries, recognizing the historical origins of current conditions. Courses in history, economics, literature, sociology, political science, anthropology, art, and three years of Spanish give students a powerful tool for understanding and interpreting Latin America’s past and present.

Collaboratively formed in 2008 by the University of Colorado, Colorado State University, and the University of Northern Colorado, the Colorado School of Public Health  provides training, innovative research and community service to actively address public health issues including chronic disease, access to healthcare, environmental threats, emerging infectious diseases, and costly injuries.

With a degree in counseling and career development, you’ll be equipped for a career as a professional counselor to people of all ages. Develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies to become an ethical and culturally responsive counselor who can enhance and advocate for the mental health, wellbeing, and life quality of all people.

You’ll complete a 60-credit course of study that includes core counseling curriculum (48 credit), a clinical practicum (100 hours), an internship (600 hours), and specialization-specific courses and electives.

This degree and all three specializations are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. Upon graduation, you’ll be professional counseling licensure-eligible in the state of Colorado and eligible to become a National Certified Counselor.

Master of Accountancy candidates will learn the skills and gain the confidence to secure competitive management positions and exciting accounting roles in public firms or in industry.  The program offers you an opportunity to study general accountancy or specialize in one of three areas: taxation, data analytics and systems; and financial analysis, auditing and reporting.  These specializations let you focus your learning and prepare you to conduct targeted technical research and data analysis.
