Human Resource Management - Concentration
It’s often said, but it bears repeating — the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. By studying human resource management at the CSU College of Business, you can play a direct role in shaping the mission, vision, and values of a company by supporting the individuals and teams within it. Human resource management combines an appreciation for and understanding of business with a passion for helping people grow and develop.

You might be interested in the “boots on the ground” side of agriculture, but you also might be interested in policies that affect it. Maybe you want to work in the government to help support the businesses that grow/develop food. Maybe you’re adept at numbers and economics, ready to help ranchers and farmers stay on top of their operations. Whatever your passion, this major offers a wide variety of career paths along with the hands-on experiences you need to discover and achieve your dreams.

Our department offers a practical orientation to computer science; cutting-edge research; a congenial, award-winning faculty; and an active student population. Teaching and research areas in artificial intelligence, software engineering, networks and security, high performance computing, distributed systems, bioinformatics, computer vision, big data, and human-computer interaction.

The B.F.A. in Art is considered the professional degree for studio art and art education majors, allowing you to explore various mediums and gain a foundational knowledge base in art history. You’ll get opportunities to learn from masters of their crafts as well as look back upon art throughout the ages, different forms of expression, and their impact on society.

Metalsmithing - Concentration
The Metalsmithing concentration offers students the opportunity to explore a range of traditional techniques and processes, while emphasizing formal and conceptual development within their own artistic practice. Class projects introduce and strengthen technical skills, and provide awareness of both historical and contemporary practice within the field.

Students are encouraged to enter regional and national juried exhibitions, to participate in workshops and conferences, and ultimately to locate and establish a place for themselves within the field of contemporary jewelry and metalsmithing, either professionally, academically, or both.

The Department of Philosophy has established scholars specializing in many areas of philosophy, including  applied ethics, particularly animal ethics, environmental ethics, and bioethics; comparative and non-Western philosophy; ethical theory; history of philosophy; metaphysics; aesthetics; and epistemology.

Social work is distinguished by a tradition of concern for people and their interactions with society. Social work professionals are community problem solvers who intervene in organizational settings, communities, social service agencies, groups, individuals, and families with goals of enhancing well-being and promoting social and economic justice. Most social workers are employed in fields such as child welfare and family services, mental health, medical social work, school social work, corrections, community organization, or advocacy.

The Social Work curriculum focuses on the practical application of social work principles, policies, and practices within human rights and social justice perspectives. Students acquire a professional social work foundation transferable to different settings, population groups, and problem areas. Attention is devoted to understanding the social welfare system in the U.S., and working with individuals, families, and communities to effect the desired change. At the global level, human rights and economic, environmental and social needs are explored through international travel courses. Several practical experiences are required. Students work with an agency participant throughout their sophomore year, and then as seniors, participate in a social work agency internship. International placements may be available. The curriculum also includes a strong liberal arts base in social science research and statistics, arts, humanities, social science, and natural sciences.

Communication Studies majors receive a broad-based, liberal arts education, designed to equip them for the challenges of the 21st century, the need to adapt to a rapidly changing workplace, and the likelihood of more than one career. The major encompasses many facets of film and media studies, relational and organizational communication, and rhetoric and civic engagement. Along with courses in communication studies, the major requires courses in the arts and humanities, the social sciences, and history, and a minor or second major.

The department’s goals for undergraduate majors include helping students to achieve an outstanding education in communication studies, to further their knowledge and understanding of human communication, and to provide leadership in communication activities. In so doing, we hope to help students prepare for successful careers, the duties of citizenship, and productive and rewarding lives.

The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences offers a wide variety of graduate opportunities in cancer biology and oncology; occupational and environmental health (i.e., industrial hygiene, ergonomics); health physics, radiation sciences (i.e., radiobiology, radioecology, radiochemistry) epidemiology and toxicology.

As a contemporary science and applied profession, psychology represents a rational and systematic attempt to understand human behavior by studying the processes of development, perception, learning, motivation and thinking, and the relationship of these processes both to the physiological and social functioning of humans and animals. The Department has 5 programs of study leading to a PhD in Psychology, as well as a terminal master’s program in Addictions Counseling.

The Department of Ecosystem Science and Sustainability investigates the intricate physical, chemical, human, and biological interactions driving ecosystems.  We help develop leaders in ecosystem, watershed, and sustainability sciences: a new generation of practitioners able to address complex, integrated social-ecological problems, in collaborative partnerships with researchers, resource users and decision-makers.
