Computer Science
The objectives of the program are twofold: (i) to develop highly qualified professionals capable of adapting with ease to the dynamic field of computing; and (ii) to prepare students interested in pursuing doctoral studies in computer science or related fields. The program provides a strong base in the fundamental areas of computer science, such as algorithms, operating systems and programming languages. In addition, the program offers a large number of electives in important areas such as networking, security, web and mobile application development, and parallel and distributed computing. Students interested in applied computer science may select a concentration either in Web Engineering or Networking and Security. Students may also select a focus in their own particular area of interest by choosing elective courses and/or up to two independent study/research courses under the close supervision of a faculty expert. Faculty fields of expertise include computer vision, artificial intelligence, data mining, software engineering, security, cognitive neuroscience, computational algebra, and logic and programming languages.

Mathematics
An undergraduate mathematics degree from Hofstra University opens up a world of career possibilities in business, computer science, engineering, the physical sciences, and education. With a thorough grounding in both pure and applied mathematics, a BA or BS in math from Hofstra will help you pave the way to a career in teaching, finance, industry, science, and more.

This degree is for students who may be interested in a double major in areas such as education, marketing, computer science, or film. Students have the option of a general fine arts degree, or a specialization in design, painting, or sculpture-industrial design.

Philosophy
The BS in Philosophy degree is focused on philosophical areas that are relevant to another professional, technical or scientific discipline. This degree differs from the BA program primarily because it requires students to complete more requirements in a discipline outside philosophy, either through a double major or a minor.

Biology - Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental/Pre-Veterinary

The Bachelor of Science is appropriate for students planning graduate studies in biology and professional pursuits in the fields of biology, medicine or higher education. The BS has an options requirement – areas of specialized learning. Choose from Cell and Molecular Biology; Ecology and Evolution; Marine Biology; Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental and Pre-Veterinary Studies; and Secondary Education.

Applied Mathematics

The BS in Mathematics is appropriate for students planning graduate studies in mathematics or professional pursuits in the field of mathematics. The BS requires the completion of one of seven tracks: mathematics, actuarial science, applied mathematics, chemistry, physics, engineering, or computer science.

Biomedical Option

Bioengineering is designed to bridge the gap between the life sciences and physical sciences by applying engineering concepts, methods, and techniques to biology and medicine. An understanding of fundamental physiological processes using engineering methodology requires a broad background in basic engineering, sciences, and mathematics. Biomedical engineers may design instruments, devices, and software; bring together knowledge from many technical sources to develop new procedures; or conduct research needed to solve clinical problems. In industry, they may create products that require an in-depth understanding of living systems and technology. They frequently work in research and development or in quality assurance.

Students in the BA in Economics program gain a deeper understanding of economic theories and their effect on society, often as a precursor to a government, academic, or consulting career. The BA is great preparation for graduate study in law or business administration.

The BS in Mathematical Finance is designed for students who are interested in finance and have the ability to dive deeply into mathematics. The program also provides an alternative for mathematics majors who find that they prefer a business-related program rather than a program in abstract mathematics.
