Women’s Studies at Hofstra University offers interdisciplinary courses taught by full-time faculty in the arts, humanities, and social sciences who have expertise in women’s and gender issues. Many of these courses fulfill the University’s interdisciplinary distribution requirement. Hofstra offers a major and a minor in women’s studies, both of which are composed of women’s studies courses and courses offered by departments across the disciplines that address women's and gender issues. Students who major in women's studies can elect a double major in another academic discipline. The internship component of the major provides students with practical experience that will benefit them as they seek job placement upon graduation.

This degree offers a broad-based program, with fewer major hours and more liberal arts elective hours.

Theory/Composition Concentration
This concentration prepares student musicians for advanced study leading to careers in music theory, composition, or other allied areas of music.

Do you see yourself developing the next big app or mobile game, or designing software that helps solve real-world challenges? Study the computer technology and systems that touch virtually all aspects of modern society, from business and health care to banking, government, and communication. 

Lay a strong foundation in programming and application development, algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, and software engineering, and choose from three tracks of study: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Cybersecurity.

Gaming and Graphics

The Concentration in Gaming and Graphics is aimed at educating students in the design and development of video games and game engines.  This is a very exciting and growing industry. Video games have permeated all segments of population and industry from entertainment to educational. All courses in this concentration include a significant experiential component.

Sustainability Studies
The BA program looks at sustainability through a liberal arts lens. This degree has more freedom to choose electives than the BS program since there are less science and math courses required. It is designed for students who aspire to work in public policy, law, urban planning, community development or business.

Are you drawn to math and numbers? Do you like to solve problems using data and value activities that follow routines and procedures? Then you should apply your analytical mindset and pursue a career in accounting.
This program qualifies students for general accounting careers in business, but does not satisfy in full the educational requirements for licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York state

International Year One in Engineering will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of International Year One and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your next semester of undergraduate study at Hofstra University. This program pairs you with dedicated faculty who help you succeed in your first year at Hofstra University.

Electrical Engineering
In the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering program, students can work toward a career in electrical engineering or opt for a computer engineering focus. You will first build a foundation in universal engineering theories, mathematics, and the physical sciences before moving on to more specialized courses.

Computer Engineering Option
Students pursuing this option will take courses in the Department of Computer Science such as:

• Data Structures, Algorithms and Object-Oriented Programming
• Assembly Language Programming
• Embedded Systems Design
• Robotics

Mathematics
An undergraduate mathematics degree from Hofstra University opens up a world of career possibilities in business, computer science, engineering, the physical sciences, and education. With a thorough grounding in both pure and applied mathematics, a BA or BS in math from Hofstra will help you pave the way to a career in teaching, finance, industry, science, and more.

This is a more intensive program, with more required coursework in fine arts and art history than the BA degree. In addition, students must select a specialization from one of the following areas:

• Painting
• Design and New Media and Industrial Design
• Photography
• Sculpture
• Ceramics

An INTO Hofstra Graduate Pathway program in Marketing will prepare you to enter your next semester of a master’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your next semester of graduate study at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Marketing
Offered by the Department of Marketing and International Business, the Master of Science in Marketing is designed to meet the demands of professionals who want to assume middle- and upper-level positions within the marketing function. An emphasis is placed on the design, integration, implementation, and review of marketing plans.

Objectives of the Master of Science in Marketing:

• To prepare students for middle- to upper-level positions within the marketing function at a variety of organizations.
• To develop marketing specialists who can understand and analyze marketplace dynamics, interpret consumer trends, and plan and execute marketing strategies.
• To emphasize the design, implementation, and review of comprehensive marketing plans across a variety of situations.

An INTO Hofstra International Year One program in Natural Science will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your next semester of undergraduate study at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Biology - Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental/Pre-Veterinary

The Bachelor of Science is appropriate for students planning graduate studies in biology and professional pursuits in the fields of biology, medicine or higher education. The BS has an options requirement – areas of specialized learning. Choose from Cell and Molecular Biology; Ecology and Evolution; Marine Biology; Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental and Pre-Veterinary Studies; and Secondary Education.
